Procedure: Answer the following questions.
1. What is transformer?
2. Differentiate primary coil and secondary coil
3. Name the essential parts of transformer.

ENGAGE

B. Establishing the purpose for the lesson

Hormones play an important role in both male and female reproductive systems. The
pituitary gland controls the functions of both the testes and ovaries. These hormones keep
the reproductive system properly functioning. Describe the role of hormones in male and
female reproductive system.

Key Question
❖ Breastfeeding releases oxytocin and prolactin, hormones that relax the mother and
make her feel more nurturing toward her baby. On the other hand, how does the baby
benefits from the production of these hormones in the mother’s body?

Week 1 Day 4
EXPLAIN

F. Developing mastery
Read the selection below

Role of Hormones in Female and Male Reproductive System

Hormones affect various processes in the body as they regulate and balance the
functioning of organs, tissues, and cells. Hormones have great impact on your growth,
appearance, emotions, and reproductive functions. It is also playing an important role in both
male and female reproductive systems. The pituitary gland controls the functions of both the
testes and ovaries.

Role of Hormones in Male Reproductive System

The male reproductive system also has prostate glands.

Chemicals from these glands nourish the sperm cells and help
them mature

The producing of sperm cells and the release of semen can be

regulated by hormones or special chemicals that come from the
testis, the brain and the pituitary gland (refer to Figure 10A). These
hormones keep the reproductive system properly functioning.

Testosterone is the hormone responsible for the development

of male sexual characteristics such as enlargement of larynx
(Adams apple) deepening of voice, broadening of shoulders,
facial hair and pubic hair. Testosterone effects on many parts of the body, including the
muscles, bones, sex organs, and hair follicles. This hormone causes growth and increases in
strength of the bones and muscles

Role of Hormones in Female Reproductive System

The female reproductive system, just like the male

reproductive system, is also regulated by hormones. The follicles
produce hormones that control the growth and release of eggs
from the ovaries. While other hormones prepare the uterus so a
baby can grow in it, other hormones still control the stretching of
the uterus during pregnancy.
Estrogen is responsible for the development of female
secondary characteristics such as widening of hips,
enlargement of breast and menstrual period. It initiates the
thickening of uterus lining.
Progesterone assists the estrogen in preparing the uterus
for embryo implantation

ELABORATE
G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living
Both boys and girls go through certain stages of development when developing secondary
sex characteristics. The following changes in the puberty stage were mainly due to the sex
hormones present in the body. For female: enlargement of breast, widening of hips and
menstrual period. For males: broadening of shoulders, penis enlargement, hair under the
arms, face, voice change and acne.
