Q1. Search various types of E-commerce websites – on the basis of types E-
commerce website like B to B, B to C, C to C etc. – At least 6 websites
Ans.: E-Commerce

e-Commerce is short for electronic commerce, as in online commerce. It’s an

umbrella term for any transaction done over the internet. E-Commerce includes
retail stores, such as clothing and other physical products, and services of all
types, from cyber security to booking a hotel.

The most common way to facilitate online sales and transactions, is through a
dedicated online store, or e Commerce platform.

Most e Commerce businesses, especially small ones, are based on retail and
wholesale commerce, meaning they sell and provide physical goods. But e-
Commerce is not just selling products, there are various types of e-Commerce.

TYPES OF E-COMMERCE WEBSITE

A:- B to B ( Business to Business)
Business-to-business (B2B), also called B-to-B, is a form of transaction
between businesses, such as one involving a manufacturer and wholesaler, or
a wholesaler and a retailer. Business-to-business refers to business that is
conducted between companies, rather than between a company and
individual consumer. Business-to-business stands in contrast to business-to-
consumer (B2C) and business-to-government (B2G) transactions.

Example of B to B
1. IndiaMART
As far as Indian B2B marketplace are concerned, IndiaMART is the
most popular one till date. Over the time, the website has gained its
reputation for keeping an accurate database. IndiaMART is always the
first choice of Indians to look for the sellers’ details online. With the
help of available contact details, buyers can directly contact the seller
and make the deal.
2- TradeIndia

The website was launched with a vision of connecting buyers and

sellers globally. This helped Indian business owners connect with
other businesses around the world. They also assist global buyers to
locate Indian suppliers, manufacturers and exporters.

3- Udaan
Udaan is a B2B trade marketplace, designed specifically for small &
medium businesses in India. It is connecting small retailers with
wholesalers and traders. The startup today serves more than 3 million
retailers and small and medium-sized businesses and it has signed up
thousands of brands, including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Boat Lifestyle,
Micromax, HP, LG, ITC, HUL and P&G.

4- Amazon Business
The name is enough for the people to trust. This eCommerce giant
entered the B2B segment after receiving FDI approval in 2015.
Started from Bangalore and Mangalore in India, Amazon Business
has plans to gradually expand in India city-by-city. It is a members-
only website and anyone with a license to business can join.

There are several other B2B marketplaces in India that are doing well
in their own way. Also, the industry is booming, so more are about to
enter the market. We will keep you posted with recent development in
B2B commerce industry so subscribe to our newsletter to keep
yourself updated with latest trends.
5- Alibaba

As soon as anyone thinks about B2B marketplace, Alibaba is the first

name that comes to mind. This Chinese company rules the B2B e
Commerce marketplace industry in the entire world, allowing buyers
and sellers to connect with each other globally. There is no bar on
quantity as well, so buyers can choose to buy as little as one product.
In spite of being the global giant, Alibaba has its share of competitors
in India as well.

6- Power2SME

As the name suggests, Power2SME was launched with an aim to help

SMEs grow better by making procurement of raw materials easier as
well as affordable. Loan facility is also available for SMEs. Overall, this
platform fulfils all the requirements of SMEs along with high-quality
suppliers such as LG, Essar, and Indian Oil, to name a few.
B:- B to C (Business to Consumer)
The term business-to-consumer (B2C) refers to the process of selling
products and services directly between a business and consumers who are
the end-users of its products or services. Most companies that sell directly to
consumers can be referred to as B2C companies.

B2C became immensely popular during the dotcom boom of the late 1990s
when it was mainly used to refer to online retailers who sold products and
services to consumers through the internet.

As a business model, business-to-consumer differs significantly from

the business-to-business (B2B) model, which refers to commerce between
two or more businesses.

Examples of B to C

1.Amazon India

For Indian buyers, online shopping is synonymous with shopping on Amazon. Trusted
by over 70% of online shoppers Amazon is estimated to have 322.54 million monthly
visitors. Along with selling a wide variety of products like electronics, appliances,
grocery, fashion etc. Amazon also offers its own brand of products, Amazon prime
digital services and top-selling devices like Alexa and Echo.

2.Flipkart

Flipkart is India’s first and perhaps most successful e-commerce success story. Started
initially as a bookselling multi vendor store, Flipkart now sells almost everything just like
Amazon. Flipkart’s estimated monthly visitor volume stands at 242.62 million. Flipkart
has over 1,00,000 registered sellers on its multi vendor marketplace selling a variety of
electronics, fashion, appliances, furniture, books and other stuff.

3.Snapdeal

Snapdeal started as a coupon and deals site and eventually turned into a variety
shopping platform with over 3,00,000 sellers and 30 million+ products. Snapdeal has
attracted funding from global investors like Softbank, Alibaba etc. The estimated
number of monthly visitors on their portal is 56.41 million. While electronics are the top-
selling category, Snapdeal also sells a variety of other products like fashion, toys,
beauty products, kitchen appliances etc.

4.Myntra

Myntra is another indigenous pure-play ecommerce marketplace dealing in fashion,

lifestyle and home-related products. It was acquired by Flipkart in 2014 and remains to
be the top fashion destination for online shoppers in metros as well as tier 2 and tier 3
cities. The estimated number of Myntra’s monthly visitors is 48.03 million. Through its
sellers and distributors Myntra stocks a range of products like menswear, womenswear,
ethnic wear, kidswear, local and global brands in makeup and fashion, home decor etc.

5.Shopclues

Shopclues is another player that is well known for having an array of products like
fashion, mobile and gadgets, sports, kitchen etc. It has over 50 million registered
customers with 22 million monthly unique visitors. Along with this the multi vendor
marketplace has over 6 lakh merchants and has over 28 million products. Recently it
tied-up with ShemarooMe, a leading OTT video streaming service provider for offering
digital streaming services.

C:- C to C (Consumer to Consumer)

Customer to customer (C2C) is a business model whereby customers can
trade with each other, typically in an online environment. Two
implementations of C2C markets are auctions and classified advertisements.
C2C marketing has soared in popularity with the arrival of the internet
and companies such as eBay, Etsy, and Craigslist.
Examples C to C

1. E-Bay – E-Bay is arguably one of the foremost and one of the most
popular customer to customer e-commerce platforms. Sellers can list
their products on e-bay and interested buyers auction for it. E-bay is a
highly popular customer to customer e-commerce platform and is
extensively used all over the world.

2. Craigslist – Craigslist is a platform that is dedicated to classifieds and

advertisements. The various sections that one will find on Craigslist
range from houses on rent to pubs, gigs, restaurants and random items
on sale. It is only the platform that is provided by the company. The
business that is generated is as a result of the consumer to consumer e-
commerce that takes place. It is consumers who post the advertisements
as well as make a purchase.
3. OLX – OLX is a very popular platform in India that is used by millions to
buy and sell used products. The interface is simple and easy to use. The
model operates in a similar way to other consumer to consumer e-
commerce platforms. People use the provided opportunity to post items
on sale and specify various details like the condition of the product and
its description along with a price tag. Those who are looking to buy used
products at a much lesser price, use OLX to browse through the various
postings and then make a choice. A simple and efficient of consumer to
consumer e-commerce.

4. UBER & OLA – Surprised to see UBER and OLA in the list? If you think
about it, neither Ola nor Uber owns any cars. What it does is to put car
owners in touch with those who desire the service of transportation. To
be listed on the database of Uber or Ola and to gain access to the
information of who needs a cab ride, car owners pay money to the
company. If you see, this kind of an aggregator based model is nothing
but a slightly tweaked version of consumer to consumer e-commerce as
what the company is doing is only to facilitate transaction between the
seller (the cab driver) and the buyer (the passenger).

5. Etsy allows company owners to create their custom website on which to

market their products to consumers. The C2C site offers guidance and
tools for growing a business that ranges in price according to a
company's stage of development. 1 There's also a "Sell on Etsy" app that
helps to manage orders, listings, and customer queries efficiently.

D. C to B (Consumer to Business)
The consumer-to-business (C2B) e-commerce model allows
businesses and consumers to have a mutually beneficial
relationship. It is the opposite of the traditional business setup: In
this relationship, the consumers create value that an organization
uses to engage in a business process or gain a competitive
advantage.
Examples C to B

1. American Consumer Opinion. Users on the American Consumer Opinion

website take surveys to earn points they can redeem for PayPal Cash,
sweepstakes entries or charitable donations.
2. Kashkick. Consumers can earn money not only by taking surveys,
but also by watching videos and playing games. The Kashkick
website pays a set amount per task, usually around 20 cents. Users
can withdraw their earnings once they reach $10
3. UserTesting. The UserTesting website asks users to perform specific
online tasks while videoing themselves and supplying a spoken
narrative of the process that details their experience. Companies can
see frustration and confusion points by looking at testers’ facial
expressions and hearing their comments
4. Fiverr. The Fiverr website started with contractors offering services for
$5 as a loss leader, but it has evolved to offer somewhat higher price
points. Once a company has hired the contractor for an inexpensive
task, they are more likely to keep using that contractor for subsequent
projects.
5. Shutterstock. Professional and amateur photographers can make
money on the side by uploading their photos to the Shutterstock website.
When a company downloads the image, the photographer gets paid.
In return, companies get a low-cost source of royalty-free images.
6. Upwork. The Upwork marketplace works similarly to Fiverr, but rather
than posting tasks at a low, fixed price, freelancers compete with
each other by bidding on projects posted by companies.
E. B to G (Business to Government)

Business to government (B2G) is the sale and marketing of goods and

services to federal, state, or local agencies. In modern lingo, there are three
basic business models: business to consumer (B2C), business to business
(B2B), and business to government (B2G). B2G is not an insignificant chunk of
business.

Senseware is an internet solution service provider, with the main product being a
complete IoT Technology Stack. In detail, Senseware’s service provides modular
connectivity for the digitization of assets in the physical environment.
