Dear Families,
We thank you for choosing OCA to serve your child and family. We have been preparing all summer to ensure
your child has the best possible experience. I have outlined below some important information that will help you
get to know OCA and what to expect this school year.
Orientation: One of the most important things new and returning families can do to get a good start is to
complete the Orientation Training Course on your to-do list located on your homepage. This training will
teach you how to navigate our school’s platform, Pearson Online Classroom (returning families; this used to be
called Connexus).
Welcome Calls: To provide you a chance to ask any questions, your family will receive a welcome call if you
have not received one already. In addition, our staff will conduct grade-level orientation LiveLesson sessions
throughout the first week of school; please plan to attend.
Attendance: Being accountable for how your student(s) spend their school day is vital to our program and
should be completed daily. Therefore, our attendance counselor, Angela Brown, will conduct LiveLesson
Attendance Sessions on navigating our attendance system in a LiveLesson room during the below dates and
times.
● Tuesday August 20th 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
● Friday August 23rd 10:00 am - 11:00 am
● Weds. August 28th 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
● Thursday Sept 5th 10:00 am - 11:00 am
● Click here for the link to the LiveLesson room
State Testing: Participation in state testing is mandatory at Ohio Connections Academy. I want to thank all of our
parents who participated in last year’s testing- we had a 98% participation rate! We have to follow Ohio
Department of Education and Workforce policy in order to remain open and receive our federal and state
funding. We appreciate your support of your student and our school.
Field Trips: Family Engagement Activities (FEA) are an excellent opportunity for you and your family to meet
our staff, connect with your fellow OCA families and learn something new! Our first two in-person FEAs for the
year are listed below, and you can find more detailed information and links to register on our New FEA Padlet,
be sure to bookmark this link.
● Friday, September 20th: Annual Back to School Regional Picnic - At each of our 14 park locations,
OCA sends teachers and administrators from various grade levels to engage in fun activities and enjoy
what each park offers. This will also be your opportunity to meet & get to know other OCA families from
your local area.
● Tuesday, October 8th: Fall Festival FEA & 5K Walk or Run - Join us for some fun fall festivities hosted
by teachers and staff from all grade levels and or participate in our 2nd Annual 5K Walk or Run at
Highbanks Metropark in Columbus!

I have included our School Calendar on page 3 and linked it here for your convenience. I understand that this
can be an overwhelming time for you. However, I want to assure you that it's completely normal to feel this way when
you're new to our system or starting a new grade level. I promise that it will get easier. We're here to fully support you.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to your teachers and counselors for assistance; they genuinely want to help.
Warmest Regards,
Marie Hanna
