Practice Paper 3
It was a quiet, starry night in the small town of Willow Creek. Twelve-year-old Sam was lying on
his back in the grassy field behind his house, staring up at the twinkling stars. Sam loved
looking at the night sky, always wondering if there was more out there beyond the stars.
One evening, while Sam was gazing up, something unusual happened. A bright light appeared
in the sky, much brighter than any star. It grew bigger and bigger until it was a huge, glowing
object zooming through the sky. Sam’s heart raced as he realized—it wasn’t a plane, and it
definitely wasn’t a shooting star.
The object suddenly stopped above the field, hovering silently. Sam rubbed his eyes, thinking he
must be imagining things. But no, it was real. It was a spaceship. A silver, saucer-shaped ship
with strange markings on its surface.
The ship lowered gently to the ground, and as it touched down, a hatch opened with a soft hiss.
Sam’s legs felt like they were made of jelly, but he couldn’t look away. He had to know what was
going on.
Out of the ship stepped two figures. They were taller than humans and had smooth, greenish
skin. Their eyes were large and round, glowing like bright stars. Sam felt a little nervous but also
excited. This was his chance to meet aliens!
One of the aliens spoke, but it didn’t sound like English. The words were strange, like music or a
melody. To Sam’s surprise, he suddenly understood what they were saying.
"Greetings, Earth child," said the alien with the softer voice. "We are from the planet Zorlon. Our
ship, the Starship Zeta, has been traveling for many light-years. We have come to learn about
your world."
"Yes," the alien replied with a nod. "We have visited many planets, but we have never seen one
like yours. You call it Earth, yes? We want to learn about your people, your customs, and your
way of life."
Sam thought for a moment, then smiled. "I think I can help with that! You can ask me anything!"
For the next hour, Sam talked with the aliens, explaining everything from how humans travel in
cars and airplanes to how we communicate using phones and computers. The aliens were
fascinated by the idea of human inventions. They were especially curious about the internet and
how people from all over the world could share ideas and pictures with each other.

When the conversation was over, the aliens thanked Sam. "We will remember your kindness,"
the alien with the deeper voice said. "We must return to Zorlon now, but we will always be
watching over your planet."
As quickly as they arrived, the aliens boarded the Starship Zeta, and the hatch closed behind
them. The spaceship slowly rose into the sky and disappeared into the stars, leaving only the
sound of a gentle breeze in its wake.
Sam stood there for a moment, staring up at the sky. Had it all been a dream? Or had he really
just met aliens? He wasn’t sure, but one thing was for certain: that night, he had witnessed
something incredible.
