Dayananda Sagar Institutions was founded in the '60s by one such
visionary, the late Sri Dayananda Sagar, who was committed to taking
knowledge to the people and transforming today’s students
into responsible citizens and professional leaders of tomorrow.
Dayananda Sagar University was created by an Act of the
Karnataka State in 2014. It is built on this adorable legacy and
inspired by its milestones, meeting the need for quality higher
education in this part of the world.

The Founder President of Dayananda Sagar Institutions, Late Shri R. Dayananda Sagar and Late
Dr. Chandramma Sagar had a great vision: Education for all sections of society.
They set up the Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peetha Trust (MGVP); which started as a one-college
campus and is today a multi location destination to thousands of young men and women who
walk into the Dayananda Sagar campuses in pursuit of a dream and march out as confident
citizens, ready to absorb the challenges and opportunities of an exciting new world.

access to good and quality education by all, winning the hearts of many, far and wide,
reflecting the legacy of Dayananda Sagar University.

About College of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Dayananda Sagar College of Pharmacy was started in 1981 to cater to the needs of
Pharmacy Education in India under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,
Karnataka. In 2015, the institution was renamed “College of Pharmaceutical
Sciences” and merged as a branch of the School of Health Sciences, affiliated with
Dayananda Sagar University.

The college is recognised by PCI, New Delhi, and the Government of Karnataka; It is
also a recognised Scientific and Industrial Organization by DSIR, Govt of India. The
COPS offers B. Pharm, M. Pharm, PharmD, and Ph.D. programs in Pharmaceutical
Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmaceutical
Analysis.

The College has vibrant clusters of innovation ecosystems focused on drug


discovery and development in collaboration with industrial partners and research
organisations. It also has an excellent pharmacy practice department dedicated
to improving the healthcare community in association with Sagar Hospitals and
Dr Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education and Research.

Pharma education is special at DSU, with students and faculty working closely with
the schools of Medicine, Bio-sciences, Dentistry, Nursing, the Sagar Hospitals and
several other Centres of Excellence in the healthcare domain. The labs in each
department are state-of-the-art, providing an excellent opportunity for
interdependence, optimising resources and sharing people's expertise.

The School offers Doctoral Programmes (PhD) and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D)
and the regular Bachelor and Masters courses in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The faculty comprises well-laid-out classrooms, labs, and a distinguished group of
academicians and industry professionals.

The College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (COPS) of Dayananda Sagar University is a
premier institution in India offering B. Pharm, M. Pharm and Pharm. D, and Ph.D. programs.

Research and Development: The COPS has clusters of innovation ecosystems across
various departments. Each department is integrated, interlinked, and focused on the
multi-disciplinary approaches of drug discovery and development, therapies, and
medical technologies.

specialise in drug discovery, design, formulation and development of novel chemical
entities or herbal drugs towards oncology, neurology, and infections. Our highly skilled
experts are dedicated to advancing knowledge and treatments in these fields.

Pedagogy and Curriculum: Our students are educated and trained by providing
pedagogical instructions. The curriculum synergises teaching efforts by organising
conferences, workshops, and skill development programs.

Career opportunities:

The career opportunities in pharmacy are vast and the scholars are placed well either in
pharma industry/hospitals, MNCs or engaged in higher studies. Career opportunities for
College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (COPS), DSU students are accelerated through the
placement cell though campus recruitment.
The scholars experience regular orientation, training and skill development during the
course time in the university.

Students pursuing bachelors in pharmacy can foresee a promising career fostering lucrative
jobs in pharmaceutical drug manufacturing and in hospital as well as in central Govt. services
– pharmaceutical manufacturing, production, quality test, analytical, pharmacovigilance,
drug inspector, registered pharmacist, medical writing and coding, data analysts, medical
representative, stockist for drugs and cosmetics, and as drug technician etc.

Scholars completing masters in pharmacy can wish to acquire careers mentioned above and
in addition, such as clinical research associate, discovery scientist, formulation scientist,
quality control specialist and quality assurance manager, QC manager, medical devices and
quality control including research associate, and as faculty in universities post
Ph.D. attainment.

Students who have completed 6 years Doctor of pharmacy Programme can pursue their
career in hospital and community pharmacy, as clinical pharmacist, clinical data analyst,
research associate, pharmacovigilance, pathological lab assistant, drug review associate, and
medical writing and data mining in MNC company
supporting heath care and services.

Scholars who have completed their PG can enroll for full and part time Ph.D. programs
specializing to the area of their interest either in DSU, or in other universities of India and in
foreign universities.

Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) is a professional 6-year pharmacy doctoral program after
10+2 with the objectives of meeting the growing needs and expectations of the patient and
the medical community globally and nationally. Department activities cover the entire
spectrum of patient care and services, including ward round participation, adverse drug
reaction (ADR) reporting, drug interaction, patient counselling, providing drug & poison
information, clinical intervention, and research.

Duration: 5 years course work + 1 year Hospital Internship

The department provides professional educational opportunities for students to enable
them to practice pharmaceutical care, adapt to changing professional roles, use new
technologies, assume leadership roles in a dynamic healthcare environment and
contribute new knowledge to the profession.

The department aims to successfully implement the objectives of the Pharmacy Council of
India (PCI) towards meeting the growing needs and expectations of the patient, society
and health care system nationally and globally.

The department with top-class infrastructure and facilities focuses on providing in-depth
knowledge and clinical skills, developing attitude responsibilities, and promoting
professionalism to the future leaders of the healthcare profession.

Department activities cover a broad spectrum of patient care and services, including
adverse drug reaction (ADR) monitoring & reporting, drug interaction checking, patient
counselling, ward round participation, medical history interviews, drug & poison informa-
tion and clinical intervention.

Pharm. D Eligibility

Pass in PUC / CBSE / ICSE or 10+2 equivalent examination in PCM / PCB.


Or
A Diploma in Pharmacy Examination from an Institution approved by the
Pharmacy Council of India.
Pharm. D Job Roles and Descriptions
Clinical Pharmacist: Clinical pharmacists work directly with healthcare teams to provide
patient-centered care. They assess medication regimens, monitor patient outcomes, and
collaborate with healthcare providers to optimise drug therapy.

Hospital Pharmacy Manager: Hospital pharmacy managers oversee the operations of


hospital pharmacies, including staffing, inventory management, and compliance with
regulations. They ensure the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services to
patients.

Community Pharmacist: Community pharmacists work in retail pharmacies, providing


medication counselling, dispensing prescriptions, and offering over-the-counter
medications and health advice to patients.
Clinical Data Management: It is a critical phase in clinical research, which leads to genera-
tion of high-quality, reliable, and statistically sound data from clinical trials leading to a
drastic reduction in time from drug development to marketing

Clinical Research Pharmacist: Clinical research pharmacists design and manage clinical
trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of investigational drugs. They ensure compliance
with protocols, regulations, and ethical standards.

Pharmacovigilance Specialist: Pharmacovigilance specialists monitor and assess the


safety of pharmaceutical products, collecting and analysing adverse drug reaction reports
and communicating safety information to regulatory agencies and healthcare
professionals.

Managed Care Pharmacist: Managed care pharmacists work for healthcare organisations
or insurance companies, operating medication formularies, conducting medication
utilisation reviews, and promoting cost-effective drug therapy.

Drug Information Specialist: Drug information specialists provide evidence-based


medication information to healthcare professionals and patients. They conduct literature
reviews, respond to drug information inquiries, and contribute to medication safety
initiatives.

Clinical Pharmacy Educator: Clinical pharmacy educators teach pharmacy students and
trainees in academic settings or residency programs. They develop curricula, facilitate
learning experiences, and mentor students in clinical practice.

Pharmacy Informatics Specialist: Pharmacy informatics specialists utilise technology and


data to improve medication-related processes and patient outcomes. They design and
implement pharmacy information systems, analyse data, and optimise medication use
workflows.

Medical Reviewer: Evaluates and assesses the safety and efficacy of drugs, both before
and after they are approved for use by the general public
