personal discipline, civic conscience, and to teach the duties of citizenship.

What is a Hero?

 A hero is someone who sacrifices himself for the sake of others, frequently at
considerable personal peril. What is good for others will always split opinion into
opposing factions, just like in times of war. The most heroic people are frequently
the most commonplace people performing the most commonplace things for a
higher humane goal. Today, the term "hero" is used far too frequently and
carelessly.
 Any person who refuses to lead an entirely inactive life is a hero. However,
whether or not such virtue is deemed "heroic" depends on who gains from that
refusal—another individual, a tribe, a country, etc.

Nationalism and Patriotism

 Nationalism typically carries a bad reputation. It is applied to political philosophies

and movements that promote a more extreme and exclusive love of one's nation—
at the expense of visitors, immigrants, and even citizens who aren't deemed to
belong in some manner, frequently on the basis of race and religion.

 Dedicated love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty are the
meanings of the term "patriotism." The phrase frequently conjures up images of
individuals who are directly involved in a country's defense, such as military
personnel and officials from local, state, and federal governments. As an
illustration, the warriors shown outstanding patriotism in defending their nation.
