GASKETS - Spiral Wound Gasket - SW-600 Ranges
Spiral wound gasket is formed of V-shaped metallic strip and soft non-metallic filler by means of piled, spiral
wound gasket and connected its end and beginning
by dot welded. Depend on its excellent compression
resilience, it is suitable for sealing sports where the
alteration of temperature and pressure are frequent.
It can be used as the static sealing element of pipe,
valve, pump, thermal exchange, condensing tower,
plain hole and man hole of flange, etc. It has been
widely applied in the fields of petrochemical,
mechanical factory, power station, metallurgy,
shipbuilding, medical and pharmaceutical unclear
power station and navigation, etc.
Note: Please offer the detailed drawing, while the gasket is used in thermal exchanger with some ribs.
Characteristics:
> The spiral wound gasket is suitable for use across a wide pressure range and is therefore virtually applicable.
> The spiral wound gasket can be used to seal fluid pressure up to 250 bar and damage (although extra care
should be taken during transportation and installation of large diameter gasket without guide rings).
> The outer guide ring serves to locate the spiral element centrally on the flange faces and prevent blow-out.
> By combining different winding materials and metals the gasket can be tailored to a wide variety of operating
conditions.
> Due to its non-adhesive character the gasket is easy to remove after service.
> The gasket does not cause damage to the flange faces.
Benefits of the centering ring:

> Optimum location between the bolts.
> Protecting of the spiral wound element.
> Additional security against gasket blow-out.
> Acts as compression limiter preventing overloading and overcompression of the spiral wound element.
> Prevents radial-flow of soft fillers.
Benefits of the inner ring:

> Prevents radial-flow of soft filler.
> Reduces turbulence-minimising flow resistance and crevice corrosion.
> Acts as a heat shield when the spiral wound gasket is subjected to high temperatures.
> Avoidance of over-compression at elevated seating loads in high-pressure service.
> Improvement of the load distribution over the gasket.
Inner and outer rings are particularly recommended for use on spiral wound gaskets exceeding class 600lbs. But
specifically recommended for high temperature and pressure to optimise the operational reliability of the spiral
wound sealing elements.

Selection of Gasket Thickness:
Spiral wound gasket is standard produced with a thickness of 4.5mm. However, in some cases another thickness
can be selected to obtain effective sealing.

Types of Spiral Wound Gaskets:
SUNWELL SW600-S Basic Style Spiral Wound Gasket
Basic construction style, inner and outer diameters are reinforced with several plies of metal without filler to give
greater stability and better compression characteristics.
Suitable for tongue and groove or male and female or grooved to flat face flange assemblies.

SUNWELL SW600-SI Spiral Wound Gasket with Inner Ring
Solid inner metal ring acts as a compression stop and fills the annular space between flange bore and the inside
diameter. Designed to prevent accumulation of solids, reduce turbulent flow of process fluids and minimise
erosion of flange faces.
Suitable for male and female flanges.
SUNWELL SW600-GS Spiral Wound Gasket with Outer Ring
It’s an external ring which accurately center gasket on flange face, provides additional radial strength to prevent
gasket blow-out and acts as a compression stop.
A general purpose gasket suitable for use with flat face and raised face flanges, class 900 and above an internal
ring is recommended.
SUNWELL SW600-GSI Spiral Wound Gasket with Inner & Outer Rings
A style CG gasket fitted with internal ring which gives an additional compression limiting stop and provides heat
and corrosion barrier protecting gasket windings and preventing flange erosion.
Suitable for use with flat face flanges and specified for high pressure & temperature service, class 900 and above
or where corrosive or toxic media are present.
Other styles available upon request.
SUNWELL SW600-GSI-LL Low Stress Spiral Wound Gaskets
Style GSI-LL are fabricated to provide an effective seal at moderate or lower seating stresses. This design
requires lighter bolt loads to seal and still have recovery of a Style GSI. The GSI-LL is typically used in 150# and
300# class flanges where there is concern regarding insufficient bolt loads. We utilize the latest technology to
electronically control and calibrate densities to meet almost any requirements
SUNWELL SW600-GSI-HF Spiral Wound Gasket with Covered Kammprofile Shaped Inner Ring
Style GSI-HF gaskets are designed for highly corrosive applications, such as Hydrofluoric Acid (HF). This style
offeres the advantage of having double sealing design which occupies all the space from the bore of the pipe to
the outer diameter of raised face flanges. The spiral wound can be fabricated to the customers specifications.
Typically, we will use either Kammprofile Carbon Steel (Teflon Coated) or Monel Inner Ring Faced with Graphite
or PTFE. This kammprofile inner ring is affixed to the “SPECIAL” spiral wound.
The GSI-HF gaskets are designed to inhibit corrosion resistance, especiall in HF service.
SUNWELL GSI-HTG Higher Temperature Spiral Wound Gaskets
Style GSI-HTG are GSI spiral wound design for higher temperature applications. The winding construction is
made up of a MICA and High Grade Anti-Oxygen Graphite configuration. The combination of the two materials
provides oxidization and corrosion resistance (MICA) along with the excellent “sealability” of HGFG Graphite. The
mica filler along with the metal serve as internal or external oxidation barriers between for the APX2 graphite.

SUNWELL Style GS and GSI gasket centering rings are zinc electric plated or electrostatic spray providing
superior corrosion resistance. It is also facilitates easier identification of the gasket as the plating does not fill in
the identification marking as is prone to powder coatings.

care to prevent damage during shipping to the job site.
