UNIT-1:

1. Define a transmission Line. List out types of transmission lines. Draw an equivalent
circuit of 2-wire transmission line. Why circuit parameters are called distributed
parameters? Explain. (Or) Write in detail about Primary & Secondary Constants of a
transmission Line.
2. Define Phase Velocity & Group velocity. Derive the relation between them. (Or)
Prove that phase velocity is same as group velocity if it is constant w.r.t. frequency.
3. Draw the T-Equivalent & π – equivalent circuits of a transmission line & explain
each part.
4. Prove that infinite line is equivalent to a finite line terminated in its characteristic
impedance.
5. Discuss the characteristics of a distortion less & Lossless transmission line and also
obtain the expressions for propagation constant and characteristic impedance of a
distortion less & Lossless transmission line.

UNIT-2:

1. Define VSWR? Derive the relation between reflection coefficient and VSWR. Define a
term reflection coefficient? Derive the relation of it. Estimate the minimum and
maximum values?
2. Prove that the Zin behavior of an Open End transmission line will change at every
λ/4 length and also the Zin of a Short End transmission line of length l< λ/4 is an
Inductor? (Or) Prove that at every half wave length the Input Impedance of a
transmission line will be repeated? (or) Define Quarter Wave transformer? Explain
the impedance behavior of the line?
3. Explain the construction of a Smith chart and explain how it is different from
general charts? List out the applications of Smith Chart.
4. Estimate the input impedance of a transmission line of length l=λ/8 and an
equivalent circuit element. (or) Justify that UHF lines can be used as circuit element
5. Derive a Zin of a transmission line of length ‘L’ meters. Based on basic equations,
prove that Z02 = ZOC ZSC

UNIT-3:

1. Define Gauss’s Law? Derive one of the Maxwell’s equations with help of Gauss’ law?
(Or) Derive an equation ∇.D= ρv. (or) State Maxwell’s two equations suitable for
electrostatic fields and derive any one of the equation.
2. Solve some of applications (any two) using Gauss’s Law? (or) Derive the electric
field due to an infinite Line charge density & surface charge density.
3. Estimate the potential (V) at a point due to a point charge Q C. Draw the structure of
a parallel plate capacitor and derive the capacitance equation. List out the
differences between Convection and Conduction currents.
4. Write poisson’s and Laplace’s equations and explain the importance of these
equations.

UNIT-4:

1. How to convert Maxwell’s Static EM fields into Time varying fields? Explain? (or)
Obtain the expressions for transformer and motional EMFs.
2. State boundary conditions on E and D in electrostatic fields between two different
mediums. Prove any one of the stated boundary condition. (or) State boundary
conditions on H and B in Magnetostatic fields between two different mediums.
Prove any one of the stated boundary condition. (or) The tangential component of E
in medium 1 is the same as that of E in medium 2 at any boundary?
3. State Ampere’s circuital Law and list out its applications. (Or) Apply Ampere’s law to
find H due to infinite line current and also Derive H-field due to a finite current
element placed along Z axis.
4. Discuss about force on a moving charge due to electric and magnetic fields. (Or)
Explain Ampere’s Force Law in detail.
5. List out Maxwell’s equations in Static and time varying form. Explain the differences
between them and also write the word statements of Maxwell’s equation.

UNIT-5:

1. State and prove Poynting’s theorem.


2. Explain the terms Brewster angle, Skin depth, critical angle and total internal
reflection.
3. Derive E & H wave equations in free space.
4. Define Reflection & Transmission Coefficients. Derive the equations for them.
5. Prove that the ratio of E to H is 377Ω in UP Wave?
6. Define polarization, write and explain different types of polarization.
