    society as we see it today. They've contributed to scientific research, political
    prosperity, economic affluence and social improvement of the world. However, there
    have been a great deal of hurdles in their way due to a narrow mindset of the
    masses. These obstacles have been three-fold for women as opposed to their male
    counterparts. Sexism and misogyny persevered after the creation of a patriarchal
    mindset that sank it's its teeth deep into the social fabric of families, workplaces
    and communities as a whole. This sort of ideology rendered women deprived of the
    fundamental right to vote and have a say in the state's matters or policy making.
    Women were reduced to a third-rate citizen status where their existence was that of
    subservience. Gender roles were taught from the get-go putting one gender at a
    significant disadvantage since birth. It was only till not until 1920 when women's
    efforts in gaining their right to vote succeeded. This is a A quite recent event in the
    grander scheme of things. These efforts date back to 1848 at the Seneca Falls
    Convention in New York. Women have spent many decades ever since to gain back
    their similar fundamental freedoms and liberties from a stingy system that rewards
    men for solely being born as men and vice versa. Although today the cause of
    equality of men and women has reached great heights, there is still a long way to
    go. The figures of violence against women in the United States - a first world
    country - are still staggering even though they have been curbed to a large extent
    compared to earlier years. These statistics should tell us the picture of women's
    place in society. How do these rates rise in this manner? It all stems from a lack of
    respect for this particular gender. Normalizing phrases like "boys will be boys" in
    middle schools and higher up is one of the most detrimental mindsets being fed to
    the members of this society. This is where men start evading their responsibility in
    how they treat women while women internalize a low self-worth because society
    dictates it so. This type of thinking needs to be corrected by actively participating in
    the cause of teaching women's rights to students. Schools don't just prepare
    students for their careers but also build their personalities and characters. Strong
    characters automatically develop good values based on equal rights for all human
    life.'
