Guidelines of the Dekho Apna Desh Schools Contest

1. Name of the Contest: Dekho Apna Desh Schools Contest

2. Who can participate: Students enrolled in classes 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th, in Kendriya
Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya schools across the country.

3. Nature of participation: Students can participate as a group of 3-6 students

4. Format & theme of entry: Students are expected to create ‘a 2-4 page physical &
handwritten brochure of their District’s tourism attractions, destinations, experiences, and
other offerings.’ Indicative information which is to be included in the brochure has been
provided in Annexure-1 to this document.

5. Number of entries per school: Only one entry can be submitted by the school under the
Contest for further judging. Principals and school heads are requested to encourage
maximum number of students to participate in the Contest, while deciding in an
appropriate manner, which entry (brochure) is submitted as a school-level entry for
judging at the State/UT level and National level.

6. Where to submit: A Google form link is available upon scanning the QR code present in
the Contest poster which is circulated to KV and NV schools for display and dissemination
of the Contest. A scanned copy of the brochure may be uploaded on the Google Form link.

7. Submission window: Friday, 15th November to Tuesday, 10th December 2024.

8. Winners:

a. State/UT Level – 6 entries will be adjudged as the State/UT Level Winners for every
State/UT in Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories in the ratio of 1:2:3 respectively

b. National Level – 12 entries to be adjudged as National Level Winners for the Contest
in Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories in the ratio of 1:2:3 respectively

9. Judging Committees:

a. State/UT Level Judging Committee:


• Representative from State/UT Tourism / Culture Department
• Representative from Ministry of Education
• Regional Director of Ministry of Tourism

b. National Level Judging Committee:


• Representative from Ministry of Education
• Representative from Ministry of Tourism
• Representative from Ministry of Culture / ASI
• Representative from Ministry of Textiles
• Representative from Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change
• Representative from Ministry of Jal Shakti
• 2 Representatives from Tourism Industry Associations

10. Prizes & Rewards:

Ministry of Tourism will work in collaboration with leading industry players in the tourism
and hospitality sector, along with State/UT Governments to give-away end to end holiday
trips, hampers, cash prizes, medals and certificates. It is important to note that trips given
as rewards under the Contest have a sunset clause of 31st March 2025. That is, the trips
need to be undertaken by the said date. The following offers a break-down of the prizes
and rewards:

a. Prizes for State/UT Level Winners:

11. Judging Process:

a. The State/UT Level Judging Committees will first convene and subsequently send 6
entries from their State/UT to the National Level Judging Committee to be adjudged as
winning entries in the categories of Gold, Silver, Bronze for their State/UT.

b. The National Level Judging Committee will then choose the 12 national level winners
from the pool of 216 entries (36 x 6) sent in by the State/UT Level Judging Committees.
c. Once chosen, the 12 entries from the above step will only be categorized as winners at
the National Level. The National Level Judging Committee will then choose State/UT
Level entries from the additional entries sent in by the State/UT Committees wherever
a vacancy emerges in the State/UT Level winners.

d. Brochures winning at the National Level and select brochures at the State/UT level will
be digitally produced by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for use in future
marketing and promotion purposes.

12. Terms & Conditions:

- Ministry of Tourism reserves all rights to disqualify or refuse the participation of any
participant if they deem participation or association of any participant detrimental to
the Dekho Apna Desh Schools Contest. The participation shall be void if the received
information is illegible, incomplete, damaged, false, or erroneous.

- Ministry of Tourism’s decisions regarding all matters of the Dekho Apna Desh Schools
Contest shall be final and binding.

- Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Education reserve all rights to use the content
created by students under the Dekho Apna Desh Schools Contest.
Annexure-1: Indicative Information to be included in the brochure

Objective of the brochure: The objective of the 2-4 page handwritten brochure is to
encourage students to become aware of the tourism wonders present in their District, and in
turn entice tourists to visit the District and experience the tourism wonders present.

Indicative information:
The following lists indicative information that is to be included in the brochure:

1. Ancient monuments (forts, iconic landmarks, palaces, archaeological findings,


religious places of importance, etc.) present in the school’s District
2. Museums present in the school’s District
3. Traditional and unique performing art forms (dance, theatre, music) present in the
school’s District
4. Fairs and festivals present in the school's District
5. Traditional handicrafts, toys, and handlooms present in the school's District, along
with special focus on the ‘ODOP’ product of the District
6. Traditional sports and games present in the school’s District
7. Traditional food & cuisine present in the school’s District
8. Forests and wildlife sanctuaries present in the school’s District
9. Hills, valleys, and nature treks present in the school's District
10. Rivers present in the school's District
11. Famous personalities and local storytellers present in the school’s District
12. Anything else of tourism value and tourist interest present in the school’s District

• It is requested to note that the above is only indicative, and any other textual / visual
information can be included in the brochure as per the will of the students to make the
brochure as engaging as possible for tourists.

• Students may be encouraged to think in creative and innovative ways when creating the
brochure, while also incorporating out of the box thinking.
