PART 2: (5 points) Describe…

1. a health problem that you once had.
• What it was
What problems it caused you
What you did to control it
And explain how you felt about this health problem
I’d like to talk about a time when I had a severe case of food poisoning. It
happened about two years ago when I ate at a new restaurant in town. The
symptoms started a few hours after my meal, and I experienced intense stomach
cramps, nausea, and vomiting. It was a miserable experience that lasted for about
three days.
This health issue significantly impacted my daily routine. I had to take
time off work and was confined to my bed for most of the time. I couldn’t eat
properly and was constantly dehydrated. It was challenging to even perform
simple tasks like taking a shower or preparing a light meal.
To recover, I focused on staying hydrated by drinking lots of water and
electrolyte solutions. I also stuck to a bland diet of rice, bananas, and toast once I
could eat again. After a few days, I visited my doctor who prescribed some
medication to help with the symptoms. Gradually, I started feeling better and was
able to return to my normal activities after about a week.
This experience taught me the importance of being cautious about food
hygiene and listening to my body when something doesn’t feel right.

2. a game that you used to play in your childhood

You should say:
• What the game was
• When you played it
• Who you played with
• How you felt about the game
When it comes to a game I thoroughly enjoyed playing in my younger days,
“Mario” is the first that springs to my mind. Reminiscing about this game, it stands
out as one of my most cherished childhood memories with my younger sister.
The storyline of “Mario” revolves around a plumber embarking on a journey to
rescue his princess, but it was much more than that. The game was also filled
with challenging obstacles and captivating adventures that could capture the
attention of any player. On top of that, a feature that totally impressed me was its
graphics, which were nothing short of revolutionary for its time. In particular, the
vibrant landscape, coupled with lively and expressive designs of the characters,
made the game a whole lot more visually appealing.
Now that I look back, I can still vividly recall how every summer vacation,
we would visit our grandparents’ place and spend hours on end playing this game
on the console. For us children, there was nothing more thrilling than having the
chance to play a console game together, conquering the levels, and defeating evil
enemies.
However, what I treasure the most about this game goes
beyond progressing through the levels, and more about spending precious quality
time with my sibling. If it hadn’t been for this game, we wouldn’t have grown to
be so close and supportive of each other. I’m thinking that in the near future, my
sister and I will gather for a game night to remind ourselves of the good old days of
our childhood.

3. a film, show or video that you have seen recently

Please say :
• What was it about?
• When and where did you watch it?
• Did you like it? Why?
4. a piece of art (a painting, drawing, sculpture or decorative object) that you
like
What the piece of art is
Where and when you saw it
What it looks like or what it shows
And explain why you like this piece of art
Being an art aficionado, I take a fancy to visiting art galleries. In fact, I’ve
had the chance to see ample pieces of art, but the one that really stands out to me is
Little Thuy, a so-called national treasure, painted by the legendary Tran Van Can,
a renowned Vietnamese artist back in the twentieth century.
I came across this masterpiece when I strolled around the Vietnam National
Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi a few months ago, and I was in love with it right at
first sight. It was the portrait of a real person named Thúy, the eight-year-old
grand-daughter of the artist. With big round black eyes, plump lips, chubby cheeks,
she sits on a chair with her hands closed, slightly leaning and looking a little shy
with a light curtain decorated with bright flowers in the back. Contrary to her
overall timid appearance are her innocent black eyes looking directly at the
viewers.
This work intrigued me, especially when I read the description on its side.
It has been claimed by some art critics that the expression and the pose of the girl
pretty much reflects the image of Vietnamese society before the August
Revolution, immersed in westernization.
Another thing that made me find it hard to take my eyes off of it is the
harmonious color combination. The light-colored clothes of the girl, the pale
yellow wall as well as the brown chair go really well with one another. Since the
piece was meticulously painted in oil with western techniques and materials, the
color palette looks even more brilliant.
It has been a few months, yet I still remember vividly every single detail of this
masterpiece. Hopefully, I can arrange my time to go back to the museum to admire
its beauty in person.

5. A special occasion in your life

where this occasion took place
when it occurred
who was there
And explain how you felt on this special occasion.
I’m going to talk about the first time I organized a volunteer event at my
high school. Eight years ago, when I was 16, I came across an article writing
about a girl who ran a lot of campaigns to protect the environment and called
for donations from people to help clean the roads in her hometown. At that time, I
thought that it would be amazing to do something helpful for other people around
me like that girl.
Honestly, there were some projects like that which had been in progress in
my town, but the involvement of kids and young people like me was too little to
be counted. Even though I thought that my parents would not be interested,
I gathered all my confidence and talked to them about me doing the same project
as hers. Much to my surprise, my parents agreed to help me and even gave some
great ideas on how to run the project.
Once I had got the support from my family, I started reaching out for my
friends’ help. We created a group on Facebook, and consulted ideas from our
teachers as well. After two weeks of hard work, we decided to take our first step -
holding an event and giving gifts for children in SOS Children’s Village in our
town.
The major problem that we encountered at that time was financial issues as
we were only 16 and had nothing at all, we needed to raise funds. It was also the
first time ever in my life that I stood in front of the whole class not presenting our
homework but asking for money. Everyone got shocked a little bit but after a
while, all of my classmates lined up to donate money. Luckily, the event was so
successful that even friends from other classes contacted me and asked to help.
Until now, I am so grateful to have my family and friends. Without them, I
would never have enough bravery and confidence to do such a meaningful thing
like that.
