daily updates. In recent times, social media has significantly transformed the way individuals communicate with
each other. Nowadays, the majority of people focus solely on the advantages offered by social media, often
overlooking its potential negative impacts. Due to their curiosity, they want to explore or try what is new and
trending to be able to fit into the society. They are able to easily adapt everything that they see around them.
With the benefits of social media, it plays a big part in the students’ everyday lives. In using this, it allows
people to be updated every day with regards to what is happening in their surroundings. Most of the students
use social media for academic purposes, for instance, to be able to interact or communicate with their
classmates and teachers with regards to the activities and tasks that have given to them.

Today's youth show a strong preference for using social media. The majority of students generally perceive
that social media significantly aids them in learning, studying, researching, and locating information. Students
are easily swayed. Effects Of Social Media Sites On Students

We nowadays cannot even think of life without it due to the reason that social media has become one of
indispensable activity of our everyday life especially among students. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram,
TikTok, Twitter and YouTube have revolutionized how students communication with others access information
about their world creating identity. Social media is a double-edged sword - both an effective educative tool yet
powerful distractor. I will break this down into how it is affecting students in their academic performance,
mental health and well being, social interactions with friends as well as self-perception. This article above is
one of the essays that would attempt to explore positive and harmful sides which social media platforms have
on students

Social Media and Grade point Average

Many educators query about the impact of social media on students academic progress. A Brief Discussion
YouTube and LinkedIn are some of the best platforms where students can find engaging content that will allow
them expand their skills making learning something unforgettable. Youtube is very useful for students to learn
video tutorials, instruction content and news channels of mathematics, science or even literature. While
LinkedIn has long been a professional networking site, students can also find webinars and online courses as
well as articles that make it easy for them to learn new skills outside of their physical classroom.

We also utilize facebook groups for academic collaboration. These groups are very important for many
students as they use them to share notes, ask others questions and work together on a project which
altogether helps the learning experience. It offers them a space of unbounded learning and discussions
beyond the classroom. For example, students can keep themselves with groups that concentrate on certain
topics and then discuss among their community cross countries. They can have a positive impact on their
academic performance, but they also risk lowering it. Using entertainment based platforms like TikTok,
Instagram or Twitter repeatedly for days on end may be likely cause of procrastination and distraction from
your college work. Students may waste time scrolling through their feeds, watching viral videos or participating
in trending challenges which reduces the opportunity for them to study or complete assignments. The more a
student uses social media for non-academic purposes, the studies said that they end up losing focus and
spend less time with their books which causes them to fall. Besides, balancing between social media and
schoolwork reduces a student focus on academic tasks completely. That combined with all the damn alerts
and our constant need to check social media for FOMO, we have short attention spans due in part to not
having time or space for deep learning OR focus on more challenging academic material. Consequently, while
social media platforms provide places for learning, they are also one of the large risks in academic growth if
you use it frequently.
Mental Health and Well-being

Social media use can also have serious implications when it comes to the mental health of students. On
platforms as Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, that are extremely visual or focused on personal representation
it becomes easy to measure ourselves with others. This can make the self-esteem lower of most children,
specifically teenagers. Images of perfect lives, bodies and success can make these students feel as though
their own life is lacking even if they are not alone IRL in real-world terms. This constant inequality causes
serious troubles; anxiety, depression or body dissatisfaction syndrome.

Social media platforms have additionally helped to fuel the increase of cyberbullying, which is a different
mental health challenge entirely. While the mental health and behavioral impact of cyberbullying has long been
a topic for discussion, in many ways it amplifies traditional bullying as perpetrators can now harass students
24/7 though they are not held to account due to an anonymous Twitter or Instagram handle. The emotional and
psychological effects of cyberbullying can often be paralyzing making victims feel like their only way out is
suicide. Social pressure linked with upcoming online trends and comparing your life to others obvioy leads this
catch22. At the same time, social media creates an outlet for students experiencing mental health struggles.
Some students feel some sort of comfort in being able to confideon an online platform about their struggles
with mental health and are seen by those who go through the same thing.

When we look at the positive aspect of social media, we find numerous advantages. The most important being
a great device for education. All the information one requires is just a click away. Students can educate
themselves on various topics using social media. Moreover, live lectures are now possible because of social
