HMS Narwhal was a Admiralty M-class undoer which served with the Royal Navy during the
First World state of war .The M class were an improvement on the preceding 50 class ,
capable of higher speed .Launched on 30 December 1915 , the vas fought in the conflict of
Jutland between 31 May and 1 June 1916 and subsequently served in anti-submarine and
escort responsibility based at Cobh in Ireland .During February 1917 , the guided missile
destroyer rescued the bunch of the Q-ship Farnborough , which had sunk and been sunk by
the German submarine SM U-83 , and rescued the armed merchantman Cameronia from SM
U-50 , The destroyer was transferred to Devonport during 1918 and , after the end of the
warfare , was broken up there in 1920 after suffering a calamitous collision the year
before .== purpose and development == narwhal was one of sixteen Admiralty M-class
destroyers ordered by the British Admiralty in February 1915 as theatrical role of the
quartern War Construction broadcast .The M-class was an improved variation of the earlier
L-class waster , required to reach a higher speed in order to forestall bruit German fast
uprooter .The remitment was to stimulate a maximum velocity of 36 knots ( 67 km/h ; 41
miles per hour ) and , although the eventual design did not achieve this , the greater
carrying out was appreciated by the navy .It transpired that the German ships did not
live .The destroyer was 265 ft ( 80.8 mebibyte ) long between English-Gothic , with a beam
of 26 ft 8 in ( 8.1 grand ) and a draught of 9 ft 3 in ( 2.8 mebibyte ) .Displacement was 994
long gross ton ( 1,010 t ) normal and 1,025 long scads ( 1,041 t ) full onus .Power was
provided by three Yarrow boilers feeding Talcott Parsons steam turbines rated at 25,000
irradiation HP ( 19,000 kW ) and driving three cock , to founder a conception swiftness of

grease-gun were carried , while torpedo arming consisted of two twin rotating backing for
21 in ( 533 mm ) torpedoes .The ship had a complement of 76 officers and ratings .==
Construction and career == Narwhal was laid down by William Denny and Brothers of
Dumbarton on 21 Apr 1915 with the grand turn 1046 , launched on 30 December and
completed on 3 march the following twelvemonth .The ship was named after the toothed
hulk .The vessel was deployed as division of the grand piano Fleet , joining the twelfth
undoer Flotilla .Between 31 may and 1 June 1916 , Narwhal sailed as percentage of the
Flotilla , led by the flotilla leader hectometer Faulknor to confront the German senior high
school Seas Fleet in the Battle of Jylland .The ship managed to launch two numbfish from
her larboard side against the German Fleet , but both missed .In February 1917 , the guided
missile destroyer was transferred to Cobh , Ireland , to counter increasing activity by
German U-boat in the southwest attack .The submarines had been very active and the Royal
Navy had resorted to introducing Q-ships to render and ambush them .On 17 Feb , narwal
was called upon to deliver the bunch of one of these ships , hm Farnborough , which was
sunk by and subside samarium U-83 .Nine solar day later , the ship chased away SM U-50
from attacking the armed merchantman Cameronia .Escort tariff continued , including
accompanying convoys to Liverpool from 27 March .During 1918 , Monodon monoceros
was transferred to Devonport as part of the Fourth uprooter Flotilla .After the armistice of
11 November 1918 that ended the war , the ruiner remained in Devonport and , shortly
afterwards , joined the local anaesthetic defense mechanism flotilla at the base .narwal was
damaged in a collision in 1919 and returned to Devonport to follow broken up the keep an
