COT 4 Lesson Plan 1:00pm – 2:00 pm

I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:

Describe the concept of the greenhouse effect and its role in the
A. COGNITIVE
environment.
Demonstrate understanding on the effect of greenhouse gases in the
B. PSYCHOMOTOR
environment.
Suggest ways on how to reduce the production of harmful greenhouse
C. AFFECTIVE
gases.
II. Curriculum Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of the different phenomena that
A. Content Standard
occur in the atmosphere.
Analyze the advantage of the location of the Philippines in relation to the
B. Performance Standard
climate, weather, and seasons.
Discuss how energy from the Sun interacts with the layers of the
C. Learning Competency
atmosphere. (S7ESIVd-5)

III. CONTENT (Subject

Matter)
Greenhouse Effect

IV. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Pages
2. Learner's Materials pages Pages 6-12
3. Textbook Pages Pages 6-12
B. Other Learning
Lab Apparatus/ PowerPoint Presentation
Resources
V. PROCEDURES Teacher-Student
A. Preliminary Activities
Prayer
Greetings
Checking of Attendance
B. Activity The teacher will call different to recall students understanding about
temperature and atmosphere through a game”
The teacher will begin with a visual presentation that highlights the impact
of climate change on our planet and students will be asked what it is
illustrating then they will be encouraged to share their prior knowledge.

The teacher will have an interactive presentation of the main lesson with
the students to discuss the following points:

1. The Greenhouse Effect

2. Greenhouse Gases
3. Role of Greenhouse Gases

The teacher will give a hands-on activity to demonstrate understanding on

the effect of greenhouse gases in the environment entitled Activity 1:
"Modeling the Greenhouse Effect" see attached page.

C. Analysis To develop communication skills, students will present their data and
analysis in front of the class. The class will have a draw lots to determine
whose group will present the data analysis. They will be given a chance to
choose their representative. The students should be able to tackle the
following guide questions:

1. How will you compare the initial and final temperature of both
containers (Atmospheres)? Which has higher temperature after a few
minutes Container A or Container B?
2. What container traps more heat? A or B? Why?
3. How can you relate this activity to the Earth’s atmosphere and the role
of greenhouse gases?

Additional Questions to catch the following concepts of:

A. Natural vs. Enhanced Greenhouse Effect
B. Consequences of the Enhanced Greenhouse Effect.

Q1. What if we add more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere? What will
happen?
Q2. Can life forms survive when the temperature of the earth is high or too
hot?
Q3. What human activities contributes to a large production of greenhouse
gases?

D. Abstraction  Both greenhouse effect and global warming traps heat energy
 The primary greenhouse gases are Carbon dioxide, Methane,
nitrous oxide, and water vapor.
 Greenhouse effect is the natural process of warming the earth that
is just suitable for life forms to survive.
 It is bad when: there are too many greenhouse gases, and the
climate gets warmer and warmer.
 Human activities mostly affect the earth’s natural activity.

E. Application Values and Social Studies Integration

1. As a resident of Ibabang Polo, what ways can you suggest in reducing

the production of harmful gases in the environment applicable that you are
situated near the powerplant?
2. What ways can you suggest reducing this impact of global warming in
terms of Agriculture/Economy?
IV. Evaluating Learning True or False

1. Earth would be very hot if there is too much greenhouse gases in

the atmosphere.
2. Factories, cars, rapid growth of population contributes less to the
production of greenhouse gases.
3. Thicker layer of greenhouse gases traps more heat resulting in an
increasing temperature of the earth that leads to global warming.
4. Large amount of carbon dioxide on earth gives the right
temperature for living things to survive.
5. Plants has huge contribution for maintaining the natural
greenhouse effect.

VI. REMARKS

VII. REFLECTION

A. A. No. of learners who

earned 80% in the
evaluation.
B. B. No. of learners who
require additional
activities for remediation
C. C. What innovation or
localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish
to share with other
teachers?
