INTRODUCTION
Video games, once regarded as mere forms of entertainment, have evolved into a
multifaceted medium that profoundly impacts the way individuals interact and
build relationships in our modern digital age. This research project delves into the
complex relationship between gaming and socialization, examining how video
games influence our social lives both online and offline.
With the rise of online multiplayer games, social gaming platforms, and expansive
gaming communities, the boundaries between gaming and socialization have
blurred. It has become crucial to understand the effects of video games on social
behavior. This study seeks to explore the positive aspects of gaming, such as the
formation of virtual communities and the strengthening of social bonds through
shared gaming experiences. Simultaneously, it investigates potential negative
consequences, including social withdrawal and strained relationships caused by
excessive gaming.
The project also delves into the psychological and emotional dimensions of
gaming, considering whether it serves as a source of relaxation and stress relief, or
if it can provoke negative emotions, particularly in multiplayer settings. By
assessing the impact of gaming on real-life social interactions, we aim to provide a
comprehensive overview of how video games have become deeply integrated into
our social lives.
The literature review serves as the foundational pillar of our research, offering a
comprehensive examination of existing knowledge, studies, and academic
discourse surrounding the relationship between gaming and socialization. The
review aims to contextualize our research within the broader scholarly landscape
and provide a foundation for our analysis.
The Impact of Video Games on Social Behavior: Video games have long been
considered influential in shaping social behavior. Early research often focused on
the potential negative consequences, such as aggression and social isolation.
Anderson and Dill's (2000) "General Aggression Model" emphasized the role of
violent video games in fostering aggression. However, subsequent studies revealed
the nuanced relationship between gaming and aggression, suggesting that it is not a
simple causal link but rather influenced by individual and contextual factors
(Ferguson, 2007).
Survey Design:
• A structured and well-organized survey is designed to capture relevant
information regarding gaming habits, social interactions, and the
psychological aspects of gaming.
• The survey questions are carefully crafted to align with the research
objectives and questions outlined in the introduction and literature review.
• A mix of multiple-choice, Likert-scale, and open-ended questions is used to
obtain both quantitative and qualitative data.
Data Collection Procedure:
Based on the data set, here are key trends and observations:
1. Gender Diversity: The sample includes both male and female participants.
2. Gaming Frequency: Participants report a range of gaming frequencies,
from daily gamers to those who rarely or never play. Weekly gaming appears
to be a common frequency in this sample.
