PRIORITY NOTIFICATION PN2022-27B

PNs are Proprietary to Honeywell HPS and Honeywell HPS Customers.

PNs describe product user information that is of an immediate nature which requires customer evaluation and potential action.
This PN is available on the Honeywell Online Support Web Site, at https://process.honeywell.com/.

AFFECTED PRODUCT: CC-PFB401/ CC-PFB402 FieldBus I/F, 4-seg & CC-PFB801/ CC-
PFB802 FieldBus I/F, 8-seg
RELEASE/VERSION/REVISION: Experion PKS R310 up to R520.2
NOTIFICATION RELEASE DATE: August 31, 2022
PAR NUMBER: 1-CZ28NXD

AFFECTED CUSTOMERS:
All Experion PKS customers who are using Series C Foundation Fieldbus (FF) Module FIM4 or FIM8
redundant setup with FF device having instantiable blocks.

REASON FOR UPDATE:

June 19, 2024 Revision B: Include firmware migration and upgrade or update in the subject of the
notification.
June 5, 2024 Revision A: Include example device, and behavior before and after applying fix. The
ACTIONS section is updated with additional recommendations to apply before upgrading the FIM Firmware.

SUBJECT:
FF instantiable function block may fail after redundant FIM switchover or during firmware migration as part of
an Experion migration, upgrade or update.

ANOMALY SUMMARY:
When loading an FF instantiable block, the secondary FIM may not be properly updated.
How to recognize FF instantiable blocks in devices instance and device template:

A FIM switchover/migration will not resolve this issue IF the issue already exists (i.e. If the device is in RED
before a switchover/ migration then the issue will continue to be seen upon FIM switchover/ during a
migration switchover).

POTENTIAL CUSTOMER OBSERVABLE SYMPTOMS:
A configured and working FF instantiable function block on primary FIM fails after FIM switchover.
The instantiable block shows error “-3354 Invalid Block Number”.
If the instantiable block is an AO block type, the analog output will be frozen.

CAUTION: Due to the wide variety of process control equipment configurations and site-specific control
strategies, it is the responsibility of each customer to assess the potential impact of this anomaly to their
process & facilities.

PROBABILITY OF OCCURRENCE:
The probability of occurrence is high when using instantiable blocks and performing a FIM switchover.
Running the Primary FIM will not have an issue until the Secondary FIM takes over for any reason.

ACTIONS:
Honeywell has identified the issue and a fix will be available in the following updates:

Experion PKS Controllers and Tools Patches Projected Release date

R511.5 Tools and Controllers Update 4 Released
R520.2 Tools and Controllers Update 2 Released

Upon applying the R511.5 TCU4, R520.2 TCU2 (or higher), any existing inconsistent data in the Secondary
FIM will get updated as part of the upgrade process (i.e. during the un-sync/sync process step). Going
forward any freshly commissioned device with instantiable blocks (e.g. DVC6200f_0403) will not result in
inconsistent data in the Secondary FIM.

Until the fix is applied:

1. If any instantiable blocks are appearing in RED, then delete the CM & device from Monitoring side
and Project side, and freshly re-commission the device.

2. For any need to do a FIM switchover (or as a precaution before a migration) – Perform a FIM un-sync
& re-sync to ensure that the secondary FIM gets updated with consistent data from the primary FIM.
This will avoid instantiable blocks appearing in RED with error “-3354 Invalid Block Number” leading
to a LOC/LOV upon a FIM switchover (by any trigger like a runtime issues or FF link issues, etc).
