1. Have you made any medication error?

I have never made such an error. I always verify all medication before administering,
keeping to the instructions and asking for assistance from professionals whenever I am
not sure
2. What would you do when you saw a fall?
I will assist the affected patient back up, check for obvious injuries and help the
patient get comfortable. I will then report the incident to the manager.

3. Importance of keeping Records?


Records help keep track of how a patient is doing, to allow professionals to make
judgements on what the best course of action is for each patient. Records also help
during handover periods between different carers and other professionals so that
each person knows what has been and still needs to be done for the patient.

4. How would you deal with a difficult patient?


It is best to always try and get the patient’s understanding and cooperation for
effective care. I will always strive to convince them of the reasons behind treatments
etc and have their cooperation. In some cases, I will have to inform the managers for
assistance in dealing with the patient.

5. How would you deal with staff conflict?


I always strive for cordial relations with and among staff. Conflict needs to be dealt
with as soon as it appears. All parties need to be sat down so that the issues are
addressed. Open discussion and ownership of actions and behaviour is the best way
to go so that conflict does not fester over long periods of time.

6. What would you do when an aggressive patient?


I will arrange for their counselling and intervention with other professionals. I may
also rope in the assistance of their family so that they are spoken to for them to
understand how their aggression could get in the way of them getting better and
getting their treatment and care.

7. What is confidentiality?
Keeping private information of patients and the company private, not sharing it with
people who are not required to access the information.
8. What would you do if someone asked you to operate against the manual handling
policy?
I would inform them of the provisions of the policy and address the matter with superiors if
need be.
9. Sometimes people stay in bed for a long time so how will you prevent them from
getting pressure Ulcers?
By ensuring that the patient is turned over regularly to prevent the development of pressure
sores. I would also regularly massage the pressure points when turning / repositioning the
patient.
10.What are Care plans and why do we use them?
They are documents which specify the patients’ care needs and requirements. They are
used so that each patient gets personalised care according to what conditions they have and
how the same conditions need to be addressed.
11. What is Safeguarding?the doctor is too rude?
Making sure that the patient is protected and all their rights are upheld so that they retain
their dignity and are able to live as normal a life as possible, regardless of their condition.
When a doctor is rude, one raises the issue with the manager so that it is resolved amicably.

All records should be complete at all times and kept in a secure storage. Access should be
only to authorised people.

These are premises where care patients stay and are taken care of. There are
accommodation and catering facilities for patients who make the place their home during
their stay.

The state and condition of patients is the biggest sign. Where patients are not happy and do
not improve over time. The state of the facilities can also indicate poor standards. The
attitudes of the staff and how they conduct themselves as well.

Pressure sores are graded to four levels, including:

 grade I – skin discolouration, usually red, blue, purple or black


 grade II – some skin loss or damage involving the top-most skin layers
 grade III – necrosis (death) or damage to the skin patch, limited to the skin
layers
 grade IV – necrosis (death) or damage to the skin patch and underlying
structures, such as tendon, joint or bone.

Prevention may include position changes, supportive devices, daily skin care, a nutritious
diet and lifestyle changes.

This needs to be addressed immediately by approaching the concerned member and
addressing issues raised by patients. Training and disciplinary measures may also be
employed.

Communication helps people appreciate their contributions and how they affect others. Good
team work is fostered when there is good communication. No jobs are left undone and all
patients are properly taken care of.

The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) is a law designed to protect and empower people

I think it will be adjusting to the weather. But I intend to make it work and am determined to
learn quickly and be able to assimilate in the community. The culture will be different, but I
have experienced similar changes (coming to SA) and am sure I will cope.
