The Planets and Significance. In short:

Sun: The producer of life. your Soul. Gives Name and fame, authority, ego, esteem,
government, high position. Father. Leader. Get deep happiness by doing the activity
of house it is present and you enjoy. Aspiration, what inspires us, Governs people.
Moon: your mind. Acts on thoughts and emotions, influence our thinking and
feeling, mental skills and attitudes, and our responses. mind swings, bring
allegations. Changes, travel. Mother. Subconscious mind.
Mars: is your Energy, (husband)ability to act or use it. mental strength, boldness,
your aggressiveness. Technology, Real estate, Accident, injury, cuts.
Mercury: your brain and nervous system, Intelligence, ability to think, analyze,
communicate, witty. Reading books, singing, education. Friends.
Jupiter: yourself, Happiness, knowledge, higher education, Guru, the teacher,
wisdom, optimism, spirituality, prosperity, divine blessings. Expansion (within limits).
Venus: wealth. Money, marriage (Wife). Your comforts, luxury, pleasures, and
beauty. reproduction, and arts of all kinds.
Saturn: your Discipline, hard work, spiritual influence Responsibility, teacher,
commitment, and longevity. patience, Endurance, Determined, routines.
Rahu: Your attachment to materialistic things. (I want all). Think big, erratic,
uncontrolled passions, make you blind through illusions. (Focus is important to
grow). Social media, IT. Limitless boundary, and expansion.
Ketu: Your detachment, after attachment, cuts, ends, makes mistakes, and forgets
things, (opposite of Rahu). Simple and small. Abstract, mysterious, surgeon, lawyer.
Research, astrologer, Root, flag on car, govt. job. Think like Headless,

It is to be noted that all planets do not control our minds but impel us to do things as
per Dasha. Sri. Krishna says that you are given the power to choose between right
and wrong, the FREE WILL. Make decisions based on principles, the universal truth
that never changes.
The planet is called Graha, in Sanskrit, meaning Grahan, to absorb. We can say that
quality is seen in a person, absorbed and developed from the attributes of the Planets
present in the chart. The person is slow, hardworking, and punctual with Saturn in his
1 house or having aspect from Saturn. The person is more aggressive and technical-
minded if Mars is present.
Sun may be self-centered, a leader, and caring. Moon may be more emotional type
with mood swings like waves. Mercury is intelligent and talkative. Venus is money,
more social, friendly, and luxury-oriented. Jupiter is more of a knowledge acquirer,
teacher trainer, and guidance giver. Mars is full of energy and ready for utilization.
Saturn shows more practicableness, hard work, discipline, and faithful people.
There is much more to learn about the planet’s nature like gender, type, malefic,
benefic, etc., from your study.

Stars:
There are 27 Stars, also called Nakshatra, and equally shared by each of the 12
houses. To accommodate 27 stars in 12 houses, each star is divided equally into 4
potions called Pada. To accommodate the 27 stars in 12 Rashi’s of the birth chart,
we have, 27stars x 4 pada = 108 numbers of pada. Rosary, (Japa Mala, Rudraksha
mala) is a string of 108 beads used to keep the mind focused to recite the divine
name.
Out of 12 signs, each gets 9 padas or portions. Therefore, in any Rashi or sign you
will notice 9 padas of any three stars in order by counting padas. The stars or
Nakshatra are also arranged in order as shown in the tables below along with
Owners. (The moon is the owner of stars No 4, No 13, and No 22).

We have learned that when a newly born child can be identified with Lagna, planet,
and star to the precision. The planet moon and the star it refers to with degree is the
birth star along with a pada number. Say, for example, the chart says that the birth
star is Kritika with Nakshatra Pada 2. This is based on the degree of the moon in its
house directing to which birth star and its pada, whether 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. How Rashi
and Nakshatra or star and its lord are related:
The exploded view of the Rashi or Signs below shows details of how stars are
accommodated in each sign. Each Rashi house has 3 stars or nakshatras, each being
divided into 4 padas and can only accommodate 9 pada of stars or Nakshatras.
Therefore, stars may appear in two Rashi, while padas in both signs. Consider the
first box from the bottom, the Aries and Aries lord is Mars, and notice 3 stars present
along with Nakshatra lord Ketu. Two stars with 4 padas and the third only one pada
and a total of 9 padas are accommodated in the Aries sign. And so, the arrangement
goes for Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and till Pisces.

relations and stars and star lords and planet lordship within a Rashi. Or sign. What is
a Dasha and how does it help in finding any event promised to a person in his
horoscope.? Let us understand, what is Dasha and its importance.
Dasha System:
All of us, invariably, pass through a cycle of life, which may be short, medium, or
longer as per longevity. We go through so many experiences, ups and downs, bad
times, and good times in life.
In Vedic Astrology, each person has been given a life span of 120 years to enjoy life
on this earth. How nice and kind the purpose of The Creator is? The first man on
earth as said in the bible, lived over 900 years, however after the great flood, from
Noah’s generation, the life span was reduced further and now, to 120 years. People
are living over 100 years even today, with good healthy routines and habits and
enjoying themselves like normal humans. Sadly, we notice, that many succumb to
early death due to their faults or because of man-made systems, Accidents and
Death are inevitable.
Vedic Astrology says, 120 years of life is divided and allotted to each of the nine
planets to play a definite role in each person’s life, during their period, and to
produce the results and deliver the results promised in their charts. (Refer to the
table below). This system is called Vimshotari Dasha system. The main Dasha is
called Maha Dasha which starts, based on the degree of the moon in its house
directing to which birth star and its star Lord.
The tables below show the order of the planet and its Dasha period allotted to each,
and all the stars owned by each of them.

Please note that the nine planets considered for astrology are the Sun, Moon, Mars,
Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu (north node), and Ketu (South node). Uranus,
Pluto, and Neptune are not considered in Vedic astrology.
Once again, thanks to the software, developed by experts on phone or PC which
helps in providing all the required details of Dasha. The Vimshottari Dasha system
explains that the birth star in Rashi where the moon is present is the starting Dasha
of that star’s lord or Nakshatra Lord and the period left over is calculated. Say your
birth star is Nakshatra no 12, Uttara phalguni, and its star lord is the Sun, the Sun
Dasha starts with birth and is called SUN Maha Dasha (MD). We understand that
the Dasha system for any childbirth starts as per the birth star and its lord for a
person as Maha Dasha of the Star Lord planet. The birth may be at the beginning of
the period or middle or nearing the end of the Dasha as per the data formulated in
that year from the Panchanga book. The balance period is calculated for the child
and after completion of that period, the new Dasha will follow the as shown in the
order.
A person born in a sign wherein the moon points to the birth star, say no 10. Magha
which is owned by Ketu, Maha Dasha of Kutu planet starts the balance period as
calculated for that person from birth and successive Dasha continues further. (Refer
to Nakshatra table above). Say, a child’s birth star is Revati (27th star) as per moon,
the last star in the table shows the planet Mercury is the star lord. Therefore,
Mercury Maha Dasha of 17 years or balance left starts from birth. After completing
the balance period calculated, Ketu, Dasha starts for 7 years and Dasha continues as
per the order given in the table.
All aspects of human life are controlled during the Dasha period of Maha Dasha and
that may be the reason you have experienced life changes when Dasha changes. You
turn to be more spiritual during Jupiter Maha Dasha. The person feels to be in
isolation and detached during Ketu Maha Dasha which is for 7 years.
The table shows nine Planets, their allotted period, and the star, or nakshatra,
owned by Them.

The Maha Dasha, of any Planet, provides results to the person for the period
prescribed as per the table shown above, and by the end of that period, the next
planet’s Maha Dasha will follow and continue for that planet’s period as per the
planet’s order given. Ketu, 7 y, Venus,20, Sun,6y, Moon,10y, Mars, 7y, Rahu, 18y,
Jupiter,16 y, Saturn 19y, and Mercury for 17y. The total is 120 years.
During each of these Maha Dasha periods, for example, Jupiter’s Maha Dasha runs
for 16 years, and in that period, there exists a Sub Dasha called Anthara Dasha.(AD)
In this, those 16 years of period is allotted, in proportion to each of 9 planets and
Antara Dasha starts with Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars,
and Rahu all as per the order given for total 16 years. (same as given in the above
table) and the planet Jupiter has been active for 16 years for that person.
Maha Dasha is like major events to take place in life and the Anther Dasha is like
Minor Events taking place in life. The Anthara Dasha is also called Bhukti in South
India.
Similarly, in the Anthara Dasha of a planet in any Maha Dasha, there exists a Sub-sub-
Dasha called Prathyanter Dasha (PD) with a period divided in a ratio like the Anthara
Dasha planet. Further, Sub-Dasha exists under these, like Sukshma Dasha and Prana
Dasha.
The Anthara Dsha and Prathyantara Dasha table below shows as an example, that in
Venus Maha Dasha, the first 3 rows explain how an Anthara Dasha is scripted and in
each Anthara dash period how the 9 planets Dasha appears in Prathyantara Dasha.
This is just to understand Dasha’s system. All periods are calculated in proportion
given in the Maha Dasha table above.

Once the Maha Dasha starts for a person, his life will revolve around that Dasha
planet and Antara Dasha planets and their lordship houses, stars, and houses
activated until it ends. All are directing and giving results as per the Dasha lord, till
the Dasha period ends. If your life is aligned with what they are telling you, then you
are with lesser hardship and with more benefits.
This shows that we study the Dasha system and follow the activities suggested in
that to know how a Dasha works in anyone’s life and how we understand when an
event takes place in life. To illustrate this, let us consider a baby is born and the chain
of events continues in life related to, health, food, family, friends, primary education,
games, sports, and more of learning and development, travel along with parents.
From the 15th year onwards more association, family issues, facing competition or
enemies, taking responsibility, sports, fitness, higher education, and travel. Next
few years, Profession, companion, family, expansion, training kids and their
education, worries, and stress for family growth, luxury, and travel, maybe many
changes in life and hobby, towards relaxing with own hobbies club, friends’
association, spirituality, and so the life continues.
At every point of life, there appear positive and negative results, good and bad in
health, association, stress, and desires that won’t be fulfilled as thought, failure, and
disappointments leading to isolation, (that’s also dangerous, isolation breaks forth
practical wisdom). All these are noticed if you check your own life or if you check
with others whom you know closely.
To relate a Dasha from birth, let us consider, for example, begins with Ketu Maha
Dasha runs for 7 years and provides needs as per the charts. In the planet Ketu
period, the person will be more detached, simple, and not worried about material
life much. Venus Maha Dasha starts for the next 20 years. There will be a change in
that person, looks luxurious, comfortable, money-minded person. The person will
be about 27 years old, and to the end of that Venus Dasha and the planet Venus will
be in charge for those 20 years in giving results in the field of education, friends,
association, luxury, addiction, (Bad association spoils useful habits), drifting, family
companion stressful life, relationship problem and so on. The planet Venus provides
all related things and results that happened during 20 years from Whichever houses
it is represented in the chart. During these 20 years of Venus Dasha, the sub-Dasha
the Anthara Dasha follows, and its planets also will be assisting during that period.
Then comes Sun Dasha for 6 years, the Moon for 10, and Mars for 7 years, leading to
the age of that person being about 50 years old. The prime period is used for the
profession during that, fame, name, Investments, ceremonies, and stressful life.
Challenge and so on. Then comes Rahu Dasha for 18 years to end at 78 years of life.
Rahu will be a source during those years and enjoy the fruitage of Rahu and its
Anthara Dasha plants. This is how a Dasha runs along a person’s life.
Everyone faces a different Dasha as per birth star Lord during birth and goes through
many uncertainties in life, facing challenges like being lost, in the woods or forest.
What if someone meets you, shows you a compass, and shows directions to follow?
Dasha of planets shows guidance to follow in our life through the houses activated as
per the chart during Maha Dasha and Anthara Dasha. Activated means how?
Imagine an old, big house in a south Indian village in Tamil Nadu, constructed just
like a South Indian chart shape with open space in the middle and all around say, 12
rooms are built royally with huge, decorated front doors along with two huge pillars.
Mostly at night, all rooms are not lit, or lights turned on but for only those required
rooms. When you want to search for something you are interested in, then you turn
on the ROOM light and search. Similarly, all 12 houses in your chart are not turned
on, activated, or signified at any time. Both Maha Dasha and Anthara Dasha do this
switching on and off, or activation of houses also Signified as per Dasha. The rooms,
or the houses are lit for you by Dasha, and you can study during their Dasha what is
in store for you and you will be impelled to do some of those things related to
houses.
Dasha houses activated will show what is to be followed during that period and what
is promised from those houses considered as activated or signified. (refer to planet
signification table for the activated house) Therefore, different houses or similar may
be activated in different Dasha in every person’s chart. You need to search for
activated houses for your needs when Dasha changes right?
By studying one’s Dasha, we may be able to know when the event takes place in our
life, find the solutions, adjust according to the negative or positive results, and do or
follow what is asked by the house activities, and by the planets in the chart.

Anthara Dsha and Prathyantara Dasha Table relates as explained earlier.

Every one of us as per our birth star, goes through the planet’s Dasha period and its
fruitage for 120 years. (if lucky). Some may live over 100 years, 80 years, 65 years,
or less (as observed in the present period) based on the longevity promised in their
chart. We learned earlier that as per the birth star, the Maha Dasha starts and
during that period, which can be 6 years, 7, 10, 16,17,18,19, or 20 years, and each
MD has further Anthara Dasha (first row from above table with dates shown) and
below that shows the prathyanthar Dasha which is sub-sub-period with in Anthara
Dasha duration. The Maha Dasha of a planet shows which house it has activated.
Refer house in the Planet significance table given below as a sample. From birth, a
person generally is busy with his education and profession, family, kids,
entertainment, investment, and retirement activities. Hence, during each face of life,
say, the profession is for 40 years which starts from 20 years to 60 years. During
those 20 to 60 years, 3, 4, or maybe 5 Maha Dasha, depending on the duration may
appear for a person.
Refer to the Maha Daha, and Anthara Dasha from the table and house significance.
Venus and its houses activated are 2, 6, and 11 for that person taken as an example.
Assume his age is 24 years. Now, refer to Anthara Dasha houses activated say
mercury giving 1, 7, 10, these houses will help to know whether the profession is in
line with what is given in the house and if not may face hardship. From the house
description, we can find out, from MD planet houses 2, 6, 11, 2 says about bank and
food, 11 says that you gain from those jobs and 6 says job. (refer to house details)
From AD planet houses, 1, 7, 10. 1 is you, 7 say daily income type business, 10 is a
profession. Somewhere in your mind, the stars will be impelling you to think
similarly. If that person is in the bank or food industry that’s very good for him.
To avoid any hardship, some may have a business establishment and activities in
different areas specified by houses. Then one may switch, doing what is asked or
adding in addition to doing what is also asked and thereby satisfying the impelling
planets.
Some are so lucky that for the whole 40 years of whatever Dasha appears, they may
do one business and one job throughout, and few may have to change from stressful
jobs for good money earning.
The Dasha also helps you to identify when the promise given in your chart is going to
happen. For example, promises for marriage, childbirth, health issues, and so on. In
the MD and AD, the planets show the house activated like marriage, 2, for family
addition, 5, love, 7, partnership, 11, profit and gain, and any few of them also give
you the promise for marriage. From the above example for the profession, we can
say the person may marry in MD of Venus and AD mercury Dasha period. Promised is
seen and Dasha can tell when it happens. (refer to planet significations)
Similarly, you can see what profession yours is from the number 10 house, as the
house activated in your chart can help you decide on what to follow if not in line.
Parents can decide for their children to pursue education as Dasha is telling about
the profession and where the money comes from for that Dasha. Many parents
spend huge amounts of money on the education of children which is so expensive
today and it may not be used fully in professional life.
Therefore, we can use the Dasha system in two ways and act accordingly. Now to
understand more about Dasha use software and try on many charts for what you
have learned. Most software provides data to 3 levels MD, AD, and PD. Which is just
sufficient. Few may give all 5 levels.
How interesting is this field of Astrology? More like simple Mathematics, we learned
at the elementary school level, the theorems, Geometry, remembering few rules,
and so on. Yet we can see the most about ourselves.
Wherever a person is living on this earth, all 8 billion people, irrespective of
Language, religion, or the culture practiced, Astrology holds good for all. The
arrangements of Stars and Planets along with the Dasha system, impels us to do
things according to the birth chart and does not compel us.
We are fortunate that we understand the fundamentals of Astrology, houses, the
signs or Rashi details, planets details, and the Dasha system. How do we use this
learned knowledge for our benefit? In our next session, let us try to understand how

the basics things of a birth chart.
For whom learning astrology is most important in 2024? Parents, to guide their
children’s education, and profession, to keep a tab on emotional behaviors to make
them succeed in their lives. Teenagers, older ones who want to help friends and
society? How about in the professionals, Government, organization, industries,
