MAXIMUM RIG WEIGHT INDICATOR PULL CHART

The following calculations are the maximum rig weight indicator pull for a “stuck” rod
string. These calculations are based on 90% of the minimum yield strength, converted
into pounds, for a rod string in “like new” condition. A straight, steady pull (not a “shock”
load) should be used to reach the maximum load.

For a single taper, the values listed below in column 1 are the maximum rig weight
indicator pull values. For multiple tapers, calculate the total weight from column 2 for all
the rods above the smallest diameter sucker rod in the rod string. Add this calculated
weight to the value listed in column 1 for the smallest diameter sucker rod in the rod
string. This newly calculated weight is the maximum load that should be pulled. For
unknown sizes, grades, and/or rod string condition, a sufficient de-rating factor should
be applied to the maximum rig weight pulled.
