INTRODUCTION

Abortion is defined as the interruption of the process of gestation, that is to

say the development which begins at conception with the fertilization of an ovum
by a spermatozoon thus forming an egg, which continues with the growth of the
egg. embryo, then the fetus, and which normally ends at term with the birth of a
new individual of the species. This interruption can be provoked or spontaneous.
Abortion is a medical act that terminates a pregnancy. It is basic health care for
millions of women, girls and others who can become pregnant. It is estimated
that one in four pregnancies around the world ends in abortion each year. For
many people, abortion boils down to a moral issue related to the question of
knowing from when the fetus should be considered acquires such a "degree of
humanity" that it is equated with murder and it becomes immoral to stop its
development.

I-Perceptions of the use of abortion

Despite the large number of deaths among women as a result of abortion in the world and especially
in Africa, statistics on the phenomenon remain non-existent because of the difficulties related to the
collection of data relating to abortion. This article focuses on the different perceptions of abortion
among adolescents and young people. Regarding the question of whether recourse to abortion is
justified in the event of an unwanted pregnancy, nine out of ten adolescents and young people think
that the fact of having contracted an unwanted pregnancy is not a valid reason for an abortion. .
The rest of those who answered this question instead believe that this constitutes a valid reason for
terminating a pregnancy.

The main reasons listed by respondents who believe that recourse to abortion is justified in the
event of an unwanted pregnancy are studies (51%), family pressure (35%), lack of financial means for
monitoring the pregnancy (34%), spousal liability (7%). The last three reasons can be considered as
causes attributable to the parents and spouses of the adolescents and young girls concerned. One
could say that the desire to pursue studies partly justifies the recourse to abortion among the latter,
depending on the behavior of the parents and spouses during the occurrence of an unwanted
pregnancy. For the whole of Africa, the number of unsafe abortions is estimated annually at
500,000.

II- Abortion, a violation of the law (crime)

Above all, a crime is defied as a serious infraction, which the laws punish with an afflictive or
infamous penalty. By this definition, abortion is a crime because it expels the embryo which had
while produced offspring.

Currently, abortion is accessible in some African countries and considered a criminal offense in
some. In some countries, the legislation exists but women are still denied the right to have an
abortion when they go to the hospital for reasons of lack of adequate tools. The repression of
abortion was reinforced in the context of the pronatalist policy. As a result, a woman who obtains
the abortion herself or tries to obtain it, or who agrees to use the means to it indicates or
administers for this purpose.

Persons belonging to the medical profession or to a profession relating to public health who would
indicate, have or offer themselves in turmoil the means of procuring abortion are punished by the
penalties attributed to paragraphs 2 and 3 years.

III-CONCLUSION
Abortion, given its frequency in the world, its often illegal practice, its major contribution to
maternal mortality and its social implications, is a major public health problem in most developing
countries. The gap between developed and developing countries in the risk of death from abortion is
extremely hig. To reduce the burden of abortions performed in precarious conditions, the measures
to be taken are known, but their implementation is difficult, as the example of South Africa illustrates
very well. The international community and United Nations organizations have a key role to play in
getting governments to change their abortion laws and to improve their health systems to better
take into account the right to health. For women.
