INTERSUBJECTIVITY
What is our purpose; in the community, in the
house, in the country or even to someone? Why
do we need the presence of others? Can we live
without them? And why do I need to adjust for
the sake of someone I don’t really know?
Intersubjectivity is manifested on how we accept others and their differences. How we accept
other’s thought, ideas, and opinion even though it is exact opposite of our own viewpoints.
People may be different in terms of physical, intellectual and/or emotional attributes but as a
human who share the same world, we should accept others for what they are and what they
want to be.
Come to think of it, when we are connoting the term
“different”, most refer to disabilities. Have you ever considered
those who are “highly intellectual”, “supper genius”, multi-
talented” as also part of the “different” ? we only focus on those
with “ deficiencies” and look at them differently with probably
low expectations while giving high regard to those that are
“differently gifted”. Humans need to be seen equally with any
judgments or higher expectation. Treat all of them with respect
and with love.
(Basic Elements of Love)
The differently abled people do not need our “awa”. What they need and deserve is
respect and acceptance, and whenever possible, be loved accordingly. They may be different,
but they also have feelings capable of loving and being loved- just like the “differently gifted”
and everyone else.
This topic that we deal today is not just about
us. It talks about how we should see the world in the
eye of the others and our need to accept the others
like how they accept as a living person. We are all
different, but our difference should not be a
boundary that divides as all. Our difference should
make the world more beautiful for it gives us a
variety of tone and harmony that gives us a way to
reflect and give a chance to become a better person.
