and rich biodiversity.

coastal retreat, Cinque Terre offers something for everyone. Its combination of picturesque villages, beautiful
seascapes, and rich culture creates an unforgettable travel experience.
WHAT TO EXPECT
BEST TIMES TO VISIT:
The shoulder seasons of fall and spring are the best seasons to visit Cinque Terre. The temperatures cool
down, the crowds are significantly smaller than the summer, and the prices are lower.
Summer (June to August) is the peak tourist season and definitely the busiest. During the summer, you can
expect the biggest crowds, hottest days, and highest prices. If you visit in the summer, be sure to book
everything far in advance!
Winter (December to February) is a quiet time to visit Cinque Terre but it is still beautiful.
TRANSPORTATION:
1. Train Stations: The most convenient way to travel between the five villages of Cinque Terre is by train. The
Cinque Terre Express runs frequently, connecting Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and
Riomaggiore. The journey offers stunning coastal views and takes only a few minutes between each village.
2. Ferry Services: Ferries operate from late spring to early fall, providing a scenic way to travel between the
villages. The boats offer beautiful views of the coastline and stop at four of the five villages (Corniglia is not
accessible by ferry). There are also connections to nearby towns like Portovenere and La Spezia.
3. Hiking: Cinque Terre is famous for its hiking trails, particularly the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) that connects
all five villages. Hiking offers a more immersive experience, allowing you to enjoy amazing views and the
natural beauty of the area. The trails range from easy to challenging, so there’s something for every level of
hiker.
4. Private Boat Rentals: Many visitors opt for private boat rentals or water taxis, allowing for flexible travel
along the coast and the ability to explore hidden coves and beaches.
5. Driving: Driving in Cinque Terre is not recommended due to the narrow, winding roads and limited parking.
However, cars can be parked in La Spezia or Levanto, and visitors can then use trains or ferries to explore the
villages.
6. Taxis and Ride-Sharing: Taxis are available, providing convenient transportation within the village and to
nearby areas.
7. Walking: Walking is one of the best ways to explore the narrow streets, scenic viewpoints of each village.
CURRENCY:
The currency used throughout Italy is the Euro (€). You can exchange your currency for euros at banks, exchange
offices, or ATMs throughout the city. Additionally, many hotels, restaurants, and shops accept credit and debit
cards, but it's always a good idea to have some cash on hand for smaller purchases or in case of any issues with
card payments.
LANGUAGE:
The official language spoken in Cinque Terre is Italian. However, most locals speak English as a second
language and you can find people who can speak English in most shops, restaurants, and other tourist areas.
TIPPING:
In Italy, gratuity is often included as a service charge so tipping is not required but appreciated.
SAFETY:
Cinque Terre is considered a very safe area, however you should follow the same safety precautions as you
would visiting anywhere new.
