3. (a) If a glass of Coca-Cola costs x cents and a glass of

(i) form an equation in x and solve it.

Figure 1 above shows a trapezium ABCD with


AB = 12cm, AD = 8cm, DC = lOom and
AB parallel to DC.
(i) Find the area of the trapezium.

If the area of the trapezium in Figure 1 is equa l tO the


area of a circle; find the radius of this circle, in em ,

Figure 2 above shows a wooden cuboid, open on both ends.
The external measurements of the cuboid are 40cm long,
30cm wide and 60cm high.
(a) If the wooden boards used are 3 em thick, find the volume
of the wood used.
(b) Gi ven that the cuboid weighs 19 , 2 kg, find the density of
the wood in g/cm3 , correct to two decimal places.

10. (a) The mean of a set of 8 numbers is 22,5. If the mean of


3 of these numbers is -5, find the mean of the other five
numbers.

Answer all questions in this section.

11. (a) Using ruler and compasses only

(i) draw line PQ = 10,6cm.


Mark point A on line PQ such that line
PA == 7cm.

(ii) construct a perpendicular to line PQ,


passing through point A..

(iii) construct angle PQR = 60° such that point


R is vertically above point A.

(iv) draw line PR.


Measure and write down the length

12. (a) Mr and Mrs Shako have each $1 800. Mr Shoko deposited
his $1 800 in a Post Office Savings Account on 1 May
1993. If the rate of interest was 19,75% per annum, tax
free, how much interest did he get on 31 December 1993?

(b ) Mrs Shako deposited her $1 800 in a


Fixed Deposit Account for one year. The rate
of interest was 24% per annum.

(i) Find the interest she earned.

(ii) Mrs Shako's interest was taxed at 30%.

(a) How much was the tax?

(b) What was hernet interest?

(iii) Express Mrs Shako's net interest as a


percent~ge of her deposit.

lii) Calculate the mean mark for the group.

(b) Anna's home (A} is 1500 metres on a bearing of


100° from school(S).

Beauty's home (B) is 2100 metres on a bearing of 240°


from the school(S).

Caroline's home (9) is 1 800 metres due north of


the school(S).

(i) Using a scale of lcm to 300m, draw an


accurate scale diagram to represent the
positions of A, B, C and S.

Use your diagram to find

(ii} the bearing of A from B,

(iii} . the actual distance of C from A, in metres.

15. Answer the whole of this question on graph paper

(i) Copy and complete the tables below for


y = 2x + 4 and 3y = 2x - 8

(ii) Using a scale of 2 em to represent 2 units on both
axes with x ranging from -8 to 8 and y
from -8 to 8, draw the graphs of y =· 2x + 4
and 3y = 2x - 8 .

(iii) Use your graphs to solve the simultaneous equations


y = 2x + 4 and 3y = 2x - 8.
