MEA Internships

Programme 2023-24
The Ministry of External Affairs is pleased to announce the launch of the MEA
Internships Programme for the year 2023-24. This programme will provide
valuable opportunities for Indian citizens to gain experience in foreign policy
formulation and implementation while increasing diversity and inclusivity
within the Ministry.

Eligibility Requirements
Internships at MEA headquarters are open to Indian citizens with a graduate degree from a recognized
university or who are in their final year of undergraduate studies. All candidates must be younger than 25
years old as of December 31 in the year of their internship.

Intake and Duration
MEA Internships will be offered in two terms of six months each: April to September and October to March. A
total of 30 interns will be hired by the Ministry each term, with each intern working for a minimum of one
month and a maximum of three months.

Selection Process
All applications and selection will be handled fully online at www.internship.mea.gov.in. The selection process
will include two stages: Preliminary Screening and Personal Interview. Applicants will be considered on the
basis of academic merit and an interview, with those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories given priority.
To further aid diversity in hiring, quota cum weightage system will be used according to state and union
territory location.

Obligations of the Intern

Priority Considerations
All efforts will be made by MEA to ensure diversity and inclusivity in the hiring process. Candidates from
districts under the Transformation of Aspirational Districts Programme (TADP) and those belonging to
SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories shall be given priority at different stages in the selection process. As per previous
years, at least 30% of the interns will be women candidates.

Selection Criteria
Selection for the MEA Internship Programme 2023-24 will be conducted in two stages of preliminary
screening and personal interviews. The selection criteria will be based on a “quota cum weightage” system,
which will give priority to applicants from specific states and Union Territories for hiring.
