A. Content Standard  Demonstrates understanding of the special properties of

matter
B. Performance Standard  Practices precautionary measures in handling substances
using information in product labels
C. Learning Competency  Define porosity.
 Classifies materials according to their special properties.
 Appreciate the use of porosity in our daily lives.
II. NILALAMAN Special Properties of Matter (Porosity)

III. KAGAMITANG PANTURO Laboratory Apparatus, real objects

3. Books Science book

4. Teaching Materials Real objects, PowerPoint

Video Presentation of song

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities The teacher will instruct the pupils to clean their desks, pick up
the pieces of paper, and sit properly for 30 seconds.

The class will have a short prayer.

A.1 Prayer

A.2 Energizer
Singing and dancing to the song (Science Time)

A. 3 Science Vocabulary The teacher will begin the Science time with 5-vocabulary
science words.
The teacher will say the word twice and the pupils will spell the
word.

1. Matter- it is anything that occupies space and has mass and

volume
2. Mass- it is the weight that can be measured using gram or
kilo
3. volume- it is the space an object takes up
4. elasticity- the ability of an object to stretch and go back to
its original shape.

A.4 Review
The teacher will ask what they can remember the special
properties of matter.

Engage

Guessing of Real Object Inside the box

This teaching strategy brings the Perspectives central text to life for
students by using everyday objects.

Instruction: The teacher will present a box.

A pair of pupils will go in front. The
teacher will place an object. The pupil
will place their hand inside the box
and touch the thing place inside the
box. They will guess the object inside
the box. The first pupils to name the
object right will be the winner.

Things inside the box

1. 2.

3. 4.

5. 6.

Explore

The teacher will use an inquiry approach in this part of the lesson to
test the pupils' deep knowledge of the things used during the
motivation part of the lesson.

Question to be answered?

1. What are the things you have discovered in the box?

2. Where do you usually see those things?
3. Are they considered as matter? Why?
4. How do they differ from one another?
5. What can you say about their texture, the materials of the objects,
and their ability to absorb water?

Remember things that can absorb water are porous and it is called
pososity. Porosity is a special property of matter

Science Concept to Study

Porosity- It is the property of an object that expresses the total volume of

empty or pore space in the material.

It simply means that because of the pore or the space of the material it
will absorb liquid. It has the capacity to absorbed liquid like water.
Explain

Instruction: Read and understand the situation below.

To SSES pupils,

My greetings, I am a bit confuse in my lesson in

science. It is about the correct measurement of
water. How can I managed to transfer the water
without using cups or lifting the beaker. I only have
the following materials: a paper, a sponge, a towel. I
know that you are familiar with this thing. I need to
solve this thing so that my Science Teacher could
give me tickets.

Your friend,

The teacher will ask them about the lesson. This is also an integration
to parts of the letter in English and Filipino
1. What is the Address (Pamuhatan)of the letter?
2. Who is the sender?( Lqgda)
3. What is the letter all about? (Body of the letter)
4. What help does Dora needed?

In solving the teacher will guide the pupils to construct a good

explanation about porosity.

4. If you need to transfer the water from one beaker to another, what
objects do you need?

In the explanation part, the teacher will guide the pupils in using the
three objects and ask them to explain their observations to
understand better the concept of porosity
Elaborate

Thank you for helping me, I am

thankful, and as a token, I will
leave 4 boxes for you.

The teacher will present 4 boxes with a letter on it. The pupils
will be assigned in each box randomly to form four groups
with only six members each.

Each box contains prices which they can get once they finish
the activity.

Get the 6 materials inside.

Prove if they are porosity or
not

Get the 6 heart shape in the

box. Complete the sentence
on it.

Once I heard porosity, I can

say that ____________

What will you do if you spill

your water bottle. There are no
rugs inside the room.

Make a small circle with your

group and plan for the
solution. You can only use the
things inside your bag. Make a
skit in front.

There is a chart inside this

box. Paste the pictures of
porosity on it and present it
in front
Thank you for helping me. I hope that
you learned something too:

Now I need to go home and help my

parents, and to show my tickets in
going to Rehiyon 3

Oh! Before I forget I need to wash the dishes in the sink. What will I
use together with the dishwashing liquid? Why?

What is the science concept that you learned today?

Generalization

Science Concept to Study

Porosity- It is the property of an object that expresses
the total volume of empty or pore space in the material.
It simply means that because of the pore or the space of
the material it will absorb liquid. It has the capacity to
absorbed liquid like water.
