QUESTION 1 /4/
A tank contains 500 kg of a liquid whose specific gravity is 2. Determine the volume of the
liquid in the tank.

QUESTION 2 /6/
The inverted U-tube manometer below contains oil (SG = 0.9) and water as shown. The
pressure differential between pipes A and B, 𝒑𝑨 − 𝒑𝑩 = −𝟑. 𝟎 𝒌𝑷𝒂. Determine the
differential reading h.

QUESTION 3 /10/
Find the horizontal and vertical forces to hold stationary the nozzle shown in the figure
below. The fluid flowing through it is 5 °C liquid water; 𝑨𝟏 = 𝟏. 𝟎 𝒎𝟐 , 𝑨𝟐 = 𝟎. 𝟐𝟓 𝒎𝟐 ,
𝑽𝟏 = 𝟐𝟎 𝒎/𝒔, 𝒑𝟐 = 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒎 , and 𝒑𝟏 = 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒎 + 𝟑𝟎 𝒌𝑷𝒂. Neglect gravity.

QUESTION 4 /10/
The aerodynamic drag of a new sports car is to be predicted at a speed of 120 km/h at an air
temperature of 25℃. Automotive Engineers built a one-fifth scale model of the car to test
in a wind tunnel. It is winter, and the wind tunnel is located in an unheated building with an
air temperature of 5℃. Determine how fast the Engineers should run the wind tunnel to

achieve similarity between the model and the prototype. If the drag force on the model is
given to be 35 N, what drag force can be expected on the sports car.
