They are Leonard and Frances.

Leonard is tall. He has wavy brown hair and brown eyes.
Frances is shorter than Leonard. She has long blond hair and green eyes.

They are Kathryn and Lyle.

What do they look like?


Kathryn has curly dark hair and brown eyes. She has a round face.
Lyle is taller than Kathryn. Lyle has green eyes and blond hair. His hair is short
and straight. His face is square.

1. The verb TO HAVE
Note: The verb to have requires the auxiliary verb do to form the negative
and questions.

Do not confuse the verb “To Have (possession)” with the auxiliar “Have” in the
perfect tense.

2. DESCRIPTIVE ADJECTIVES 1:
Personal description

Attractive:
Having qualities that delight the eye.
Handsome: Pleasing and dignified in form of appearance.
Pretty: Pleasing or attractive in a graceful or delicate way.
Tall: Having greater than ordinary height.
Short: Having little height; not tall.
Fat: Having much or too much fat or flesh; plump or obese.
It is considered offensive. It is commonly replaced by the
adjective “overweight”.
Heavy: Having relatively great weight.
Chubby: Informal adjective to describe someone rounded and plump.
(synonym of fat).
Thin: Lean or slender in form, build, or stature.
Slender: Thin and delicate in build; gracefully slim.

Round: Rounded shape.


Square: Approximately rectangular and equilateral in cross section.
Oval: Having the shape of an ellipse or ellipsoid.
Straight: Having no waves or bends.
Curly: Having curls.
Wavy: Having curls, curves or undulation.

3. ADJECTIVES 2:

Comparative and superlative adjectives


Comparative: compares two nouns. It is used with «THAN» or «BUT»
To make an adjective into its comparative form, add “er” at the end of
the adjective.
When the adjective is a long one, it remains the same but it is necessary
to use “more”

Superlative: Makes a certain noun more important or relevant than the


others. Makes something superior in importance. It is used with “THE”
before the adjective.
To make an adjective into its superlative form, add “est” at the end of the
adjective.
When the adjective is a long one, it remains the same but it is necessary
to add “the most”.

There are some "special" or irregular adjectives. They don't follow the same rules for
the other adjectives, so it is necessary to learn them by heart.

PITFALLS BEWARE

1. The words do and does are used with have to form the negative and questions.
The singular form has is never used with does.

She has blue eyes. but Does she have blue eyes?

2. Note that adjectives have no plural form.


She is tall and thin. They are tall and thin.
He is short. They are short.
