1. Is inclusion the best environment for students with disabilities?

2. How can students with disabilities cope in the mainstream classroom?

3. Does inclusion of students with disabilities will affect normal students?

Background of the study

Special education is a form of teaching wherein teaching procedures are individualized to meet

the needs of students with disabilities and other learning disabilities. SPED aims at developing

the inclusive system that will allow every student to reach his/her potential. Teachers in SPED

programs may employ various approaches and tools to address difficulties that a particular

student may have. It does not necessarily mean that the child will spend the whole day in a

special classroom. In fact the law requires that children with disabilities who are in special

education should be integrated with other children at intervals. The curriculum may be flexible to

enable students to understand the concepts at their own time. SPED services accompass

assistance in academic, social and emotional growth. It also promotes the interaction of teachers,

parents and other professionals to develop an individualized educational plan.

In order for a child with a disability to realize their full potential, they must have equal access to

education, healthcare, and opportunities as other children. These rights shield them from

discrimination and encourage their inclusion and participation in society by acknowledging and

meeting their special needs.

Sarason (2015) pointed out that an essential goal of education is to generate citizens who are

self-sustaining and accountable with self-confidence, drive, and abilities, and having the insight

to carry on personal development and seek understanding. An education concept like this

highlights efforts to support the autonomy of disabled student

Based on Republic Act 3562 and Republic Act 5250 (June 1968). Teachers, administrators, and

supervisors of SPED were provided for in these Acts, respectively. should receive training from

the Department of Education and be underprivileged

In addition, Republic Act No. 7277 known as the “Magna Carta for Person with Disabilities.” It

is Philippine law that was passed in order to uphold and defend the rights of people with

disabilities (PWDs). The purpose of the act is to provide PWDs access to opportunities and

services that allow them to fully engage in society.

By learning how to affectively support children with disabilities in mainstream classrooms aims

to encourage inclusivity, guarantee fair education opportunities, and equip all students for a

society that embraces diversity

Children who have learning disabilities typically need more supervision and assistance in

classroom tasks. Usually, children with learning diabilities have average intelligence but struggle

with their reading, writing and math skills.

Students with disabilities find it helpful to have additional time for exams and written tasks,

allowing them to work at a comfortable pace and improve their academic performance. The

challenge of trying to read directions can be removed by using a tape recorder to provide advice.

By supplying pre-made materials and evaluation options like visual aids, you can help children

with disabilities by reducing the amount of writing in their tasks. It is nessesary to carefully

consider seating arrangement to reduce distractions because students can concentrate better in a
quite, concentrated classroom setting. Students attention and comprehension is improved by a

variety of teaching strategies that appeal to several senses, including sight, hearing, and touch.

Special Education (SPED) plays a big role in modern educational systems, as it offers a structure

for addressing and accomodating the varied requirements of students with disabilities.

Special Education has a wider perspective of promoting inclusion not only in schools but across

the communities. It is SPED that allows future teachers and advocates to develop an environment

that enhances growth and learning among all students, both with or without disabilities. This

encourages a culture of acceptance, understanding, and empathy. Students who become familiar

with diversity at an early stage are more compassionate and tolerant, which minimize stigma and

encourage a greater sense of belonging.

By including SPED students in regular classroom it overcome the barriers and minimize

stereotypes, while helping students to learn by one another. It leads them to develop a higher

empathy and understanding. In diverse classroom learning environments it forces teachers to be

creative in instructional strategies as well as differentiated, addressing a wide variety of learning

style. Integrating SPED students also helps in the social and emotional development of these

students. Mainstreaming SPED students provides them with increasing interaction with peers,

friendship building and social skill development. Casual moments like these go a long way

towards making SPED students feel like they belong, increasing their self-esteem and

confidence.
