Designed, adapted and implemented teaching strategies
that are responsive to learners with disabilities, giftedness and talents
PROMPT #1
Context: Clara is often seen restless or unfocused in class. She also has troubles following instructions and skips
activities when left unsupervised.
Action Taken: You had a conference with her parents and found out from them that Clara was diagnosed with a
learning disability.

How will you modify the instructions for Clara to keep her focus on classroom activities? Write your reflections in
this form. Mention in your reflections a specific learning disability that you are familiar with or have researched on.

YOUR REFLECTIONS

The learning disability is defined as “any mental condition that prevents a person
from acquiring the same amount of knowledge as others in their age group.”
After having a conference with Clara’s parents, I found out that Clara was diagnosed
with Dyslexia, learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems
identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and
words (decoding). that’s why Clara is often restless or unfocused in class. She has
troubles following instructions because when you have dyslexia, reading, writing, and
speaking can be difficult and overwhelming. One way to support learners with dyslexia
is create a supportive and collaborative classroom culture by getting to know all your
learners as individuals and encourage them to get to know each other. This will help
learners feel comfortable thinking about ways to do tasks and asking for support.

As Clara’s teacher, I should start with building a sincere relationship by explaining

that some sort of learning disability is not a problem that makes one any less valuable. I
concentrate on child’s strengths and not weaknesses and focus on praising effort and
not results. I should explain to the child that effort must always be above the result itself.
Provide healthy environment where the children are equal members of the class. To
educate the children who attend the regular program to learn about the specific issues
their peers face. Provide role models to motivate her to actively take part in classroom
activity.(233 words)

YOUR ANNOTATIONS

To ensure that the needs of my learners were addressed in

my daily lesson, as a classroom teacher I should prepare
activities that will help them understand not only the
concepts but also the essence of learning it. This may also
include the students who are gifted and talented in my
class. In this specific WHLP that I designed for our topic,
The Technical Terms used in Research, I highlighted the
activities I utilized to effectively deliver the lesson.

Audio Video Presentation will hold my learners’ attention

and will make the concepts understandable to them.
Another teaching technique is an Interactive game, What’s
the Word, this will engage the learners in the learning and
teaching process and remember the words easily. I include
also the Classpoint App to keep the discussion of the
lesson livelier. Lastly, I will also let my students work with
others in the Think and Share activity. I believe that they
will also learn from their peers and classmates and stablish
an awesome relationship.
