INTRODUCTION
Inspire is from the Latin word 'inspirare', which mean 'to breathe or blow into. When you are
'inspired', you are etymologically having an idea 'breathed into you. More clearly, Inspire is to
make someone feel that they want to do something and believe they can do it. You can fill
someone with confidence and desire to do something. The purpose of doing an inspirational
presentation is to encourage your viewers to experience greater success, adopt higher goals
and ideals. Influence and motivation are particularly important if you need the collaboration
of people who are not under your direct authority. Influence and inspire have a subtle
distinction. Influence is getting other people to see your point of view, while inspire is
compelling them to act.
An inspirational reasearch presentation brings the audience together in a mood of fellowship
and shared desire, builds the audience's enthusiasm, then proposes a plan and appeals to the
audience to follow this plan. The inspirational presentation relies more heavily on emotional
appeal than on the logical appeal found in the other types of persuasive speeches.
SUMMARY OF THE BOOK
CHAPTER XI
INSPIRE YOUR AUDIENCE
Inspire is to make someone feel that they want to do something and believe they can do it.

inspirational presentation is to encourage your viewers to experience greater success, adopt
higher goals and ideals. Influence and motivation are particularly important if you need the
collaboration of people who are not under your direct authority. Influence and inspire have a

appeal than on the logical appeal found in the other types of persuasive speeches.

Some of the traits that show the inspiring character of a researcher are as follows:

1. Have good self-confidence

Having a confident attitude makes other people no longer doubt you in various ways. This
attitude is also needed for various formal and informal activities. You will be able to do many
things well using the abilities you have. nervousness as normal- work with it rather than
against it.
2. Cultivate a brave attitude
To be an inspiring person, of course, you must have a brave mentality. learn to overcome
these fears, so that courage can arise in you. (Paulo Coelho). Being brave isn 't just about
having courage, it is about being fearful to stand in one's own path. Bravery is about having
the ability to empathize and share new beliefs in the world. Once fearfulness is conquered,
one can persist to accomplish their beliefs. Bravery can lead to consequences that could
change rules.
3. Be a person who is always optimistic What does optimism mean? Basically, it means
focusing on the positive aspects of life. Try to believe with the various efforts that you have
done, that it will all work. A researcher should not easily give up or get bored in a study, but a
researcher must be strongly encouraged to be willing to repeat the experiment if the results
are doubtful. In addition, a researcher must be patient in solving the problems at hand. This
optimistic attitude will make you more attractive and pleasant to the viewers.
4. Can distinguish between fact and opinion
As a researcher, you must be able to distinguish between facts and opinions (opinions) in a
problem. As we know that a fact is something that has actually happened, and has scientific
evidence that can be accounted for so that the truth can be accepted. While opinion is only a
personal opinion whose truth is not necessarily justifiable.
5. Do not rush in making a decision
Before making a decision, a researcher must think critically. Not immediately draw or accept
conclusions without being supported by strong evidence, do not feel that he is the most
correct and must be followed by others, and must be willing to change his opinion based on
the strong evidence found.
6. Open-minded
It is very important for a researcher to have an open attitude. This is necessary in order to be
able to listen to the opinions of others even though their opinions are different from what they
know. So as a researcher must be able to accept criticism from others.
To be an open-minded person stop being judgmental about what other do differently. If your
point of view is different from other, why don't you take the time to listen to their argument
before assuming they are wrong? To be able to know which way is better, you need to know
exactly what you are talking about right? Therefore you have to understand and realize about
all the possible options and then, freely choose which option suit you best and implement it.

7. Always curious
As a researcher, you should have a high curiosity about a problem that is being studied. From
attitudes and traits like this, a researcher will be encouraged to always continue to learn so
that their knowledge is broadened.
Curious people don't multi-task. They're focused completely and solely on the press moment.
You'll be able to take in everything that is happening.
Aren't afraid to say "I don't know"
It's more important for a curious person to learn something than to look smart. They're alwa
seeking knowledge by engaging in conversation.
Make time for curiosity
Curious people make time to be intentionally curious. Take one day a month to think forwi 3
years, to question your goals and assumptions.
Self motivated
When you're consistently interested in new things, you make sure to put in the time and eff
to learn about them. You do this because you want to, not because something told you to.
Love to learn Naturally curious people are avid learners. Read diverse kinds of books, blogs,
white pape
and anything else you can get your hands on. Take instructive classes and courses. Never st
learning. Next, is how we can make our research presentation meaningful so that the viewer
feel inspired. This can be started by building an interesting atmosphere or enthusiasm from
the viewers, connect with the viewer's feeling and emotion by using motivated and positive
words in presenting your data. Use language that unites the viewers and establishes a bond
between you and them. Use vivid and logical words that allow viewers to visualize all of the
things that will.
In addition to the choice of words, you can also use body language. Be confident and
forceful, you must prove your viewers that you are sincere and believe in your research. The
conclusions
From the research results that you have also play an important role in inspiring viewers. You
must have strong conclusions emotionally and logically. Then, end your presentation with a
memorable final statement The best measure of learning is a behavioral outcome (or action).
If nobody does anything after you present, then it was a waste of energy and time for
everyone. You don't want just to flap your lips and be done, you want people to take action,
move, shake, build, and create after hearing you speak. So how do you inspire others to take
action then? There are two steps to get people to act:

1. Connecting with the audience

To inspire audiences, you must speak to a desire, need, or concern that they already feel or
one that they may not have yet recognized psychologist Abraham Maslow identified five
human needs:
If you tap into and build onto these needs in your research presentation, you will be able to
inspire your audience.
2. Decide on the action you want them to take
As a presenter you don't want people to take random action; you want them to take a
particular action. It can be to read a document, to create a new procedure, to say yes to a
decision, to evangelize an idea, or to buy something.
Whatever the action is, you must choose it, because you can't leave it to chance. Most people
don't like to pick an action goal for their audience because they are afraid to fail by not
achieving it. The moment you don't
set up the action goal you failed already. In the beginning, your brain is going to resist you on
picking an action
goal, but eventually, it will cooperate. Your brain is going to try to rationalize itself out of
deciding on the action goal: it will tell that you that you don't need the audience to take any
action, you are just informing in this presentation.

Analysis and Discussion

Strengths
1. The chapter clearly defines what it means to inspire, providing a solid foundation for
understanding its importance in presentations.
2. The focus on emotional engagement over purely logical arguments acknowledges the
complex nature of audience influence.
3. The use of checklists for traits and actions helps readers easily grasp and apply the
concepts discussed.
4. It covers various characteristics of an inspiring researcher, promoting qualities like
confidence, bravery, and open-mindedness.
5. Relating inspiration to Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a strong psychological
approach that enhances the effectiveness of presentations.
Weaknesses
1. The chapter is quite lengthy and might overwhelm readers, especially those
unfamiliar with the concepts.
2. Lack of Examples, While it discusses traits and actions, it could benefit from more
real-life examples or case studies to illustrate how these concepts are applied in
practice.
3. Assumption of prior knowledge like Some readers may not fully grasp psychological
terms or the nuances of emotional appeal without prior background knowledge.

CRITICAL REFLECTION
Simplifying and summarizing key points could make the chapter more accessible and
engaging. Including examples of successful presentations that inspired action could help
readers visualize application. Adding diagrams or flowcharts to illustrate the connections
between concepts (like Maslow’s needs and inspiring action) could enhance understanding.
Suggest that readers actively reflect on their own experiences and identify how they can
apply these concepts to their presentations.
Overall, the chapter provides valuable insights into inspiring an audience but could be
improved through brevity, examples, and interactive elements.

CONCLUSION
In summary, the chapter does a good job of defining inspiration and emphasizing its
importance in presentations, but it also recognizes that in order to persuade an audience,
emotional appeals must be used more often than just rational ones. Although using checklists
makes it easier to apply concepts, some readers may find the chapter's length and dearth of
real-world examples to be too much to handle. Simplifying important ideas, adding more
examples, and using visual aids like diagrams could improve the chapter and make the
information more approachable and interesting. The effectiveness of the chapter can be
further increased by encouraging readers to apply the ideas covered and think back on their
own experiences. Notwithstanding its advantages, the chapter could be strengthened by being
more succinct, adding examples, and incorporating interactive features to enhance
comprehension and application of motivational presentations.

Title: Inspire Your Audience
Writers: Toastmaster Internasional
Years: Rev 2016
Introduction
Inspiring an audience is identified as a crucial skill that combines expertise, self-confidence,
and a clear motivational message. The speaker must convey why the audience should feel
motivated to engage with the content presented. It is noted that if the speaker appears to be
talking "at" the audience rather than engaging with them, the objective of inspiring them is
not achieved. This underscores the importance of interaction and connection during the
speech.
Summary
In summary, the speech project emphasizes the importance of audience engagement, trust-
building, and thorough preparation to inspire and motivate listeners effectively. The
structured approach, including a defined speech length and review process, aims to enhance
the overall quality of the presentations. Here are the key points derived from the contexts:

 Purpose of the Speech: The primary goal of the speech is to inspire the audience. The
member is expected to practice both writing and delivering a speech that motivates and
uplifts listeners .

 Audience Interaction: A critical aspect of delivering a successful speech is the interaction

with the audience. If the speaker appears to be talking "at" the audience rather than
engaging with them, they are not fulfilling the speech's objective. This highlights the
need for a two-way communication approach during the presentation .

 Trust Building: Gaining the audience's trust is essential for effective communication.
Demonstrating an understanding of this value can significantly enhance the impact of the
speech .

 Speech Length: The speech is expected to last between 5 to 7 minutes, which is a

standard duration that allows for a concise yet impactful delivery .
 Assignment Review: Participants are encouraged to review the assignment details
thoroughly, particularly the Project Checklist, to ensure they meet all requirements and
expectations .

 Preparation Guidance: Members are advised to plan and prepare their speeches carefully,
taking into account the feedback and guidelines provided in the project documentation .

 General Comments for Improvement: The project includes a section for evaluators to
provide feedback, suggesting areas where the speaker may want to improve their delivery
or content.
Analysis and Discussion
In analyzing and discussing effective speech presentation techniques, several key elements
emerge that can significantly enhance the impact of a speech. Here are the main points to
consider:

 Understanding Audience Trust: Establishing trust with your audience is fundamental.

When the audience feels that the speaker is credible and relatable, they are more likely to
engage with the message. This trust can be built through transparency, authenticity, and
by demonstrating a genuine understanding of the audience's needs and concerns .

 Motivational Design: A well-structured speech should aim to motivate the audience to

improve themselves in various aspects—personally, emotionally, professionally, or
spiritually. This requires the speaker to identify key areas where the audience may seek
growth and to present ideas that resonate with those aspirations .

 Inspiring New Perspectives: The ability to inspire the audience to adopt new perspectives
or goals is a hallmark of effective speech delivery. This can be achieved by presenting
compelling narratives, thought-provoking questions, or innovative ideas that challenge
the audience's current viewpoints .

 Enthusiastic Delivery: The manner in which a speech is delivered can greatly influence
its effectiveness. An enthusiastic and passionate presentation can captivate the audience's
attention and encourage them to connect with the message on a deeper level. This
involves using appropriate body language, vocal inflection, and engaging storytelling
techniques .
 Connecting on Multiple Levels: To truly inspire, a speaker must connect with the
audience both intellectually and emotionally. This dual connection can be fostered by
understanding the audience's perspectives and addressing their concerns, which makes
the message more relatable and impactful .

 Relevance of the Message: It is crucial to determine which elements of the message are
most relevant to the audience. By aligning the speech content with the audience's
interests and goals, the speaker can create a stronger connection and ensure that the
message resonates with them .
effective speech presentation involves a combination of building trust, motivating the
