Diode
Diode is a device with two terminals. It conducts only when it is forward biased but doesn't
conduct in reverse bias. A diode is usually in the shape of cylinder with two flat ends. Leads
come out of the fiat ends to make electrical connections. The body of diode can be solid black
in colour with a silver lining at one end. The silver lining represents the n-section and the Diode

black body represents the p-section.

LED (Light Emitting Diode)

This is a special type of diode and contains two terminals. LED conducts only when in
forward bias but doesn't conduct in reverse bias. Unlike ordinary diodes, the LED emits light
while conducting. An LED is usually cylindrical in shape with one flat end. Both the leads come out
from the only flat end of LED. LEDs are available in diferent colours like red, green, white, etc.

Resistor
A resistor is used for controlling the flow of current by offering opposition in its
path. A resistor usually conducts in both directions. Thus, the resistance offered by

Capacitor
A capacitor is a two-terminal device. It doesn't conduct but stores some charge
when DC is applied it. A capacitor offers infinite resistance when

Result
A diodë, an LED, a resistor and a capacitor are identified from a mixed collection of given items.

Precautions
Use an analog multimeter preferably instead ofa digital
one. This will help in clearly observing the deflection of pointer
