AIRA : Good afternoon everyone, especially to our dear panelist ma’am/sir,

good afternoon. I am aira and I’m with MS. Julie, cess. Mr. maguira. We are
here to present our research study entitled “pathological fear in
mathematics and students’ academic achievement in mathematics.

introduction:
Mathematics is viewed as one of the most critical subjects in the
Philippines, and students are encouraged to excel in it. Mathematics is
important for students in the Philippines as it helps develop critical thinking
and problem-solving skills. Math anxiety is characterized by serious fear,
tension and nervousness’ about mathematical activities and affect students
at all levels. According to the 2022 PISA results released Philippines
ranked sixth from the bottom in mathematics with an average score of 355.

In order to give you a common framework, allow me to first describe a few e

ssential terms from our study (Proceed to key words – justification 6-7
MS. Manalastas will continue our justification and will present our research
paradigm.

JULIE: ( slide 8-9 – research paradigm )

Ms. Nolasco will present our statement of the problem and research design.

CESS: ( statement of the problem – research design )

MR. Manguira will continue our presentation

JOSHUA: ( data gathering tools – statistical tool)

that ends our presentation about our study, Thank you for listening.

AIRA : What motivated you to conduct or choose the study?

As a future mathematics educator we know that some of the students are
dealing with stress, anxiety and also, they are lack of understanding in
mathematics lessons. So we the researcher decided to conduct this study to
help them improve their mathematical skills and their academic
achievement.

CESS: what is the background of your study?

Mathematics, frequently considered to be the foundation of scientific
thinking, plays a vital part in forming our intellectual talents and problem-
solving abilities. Carey (2016) discovered that mathematics anxiety can lead
to poor mathematical performance. Anxiety prevents a student from
understanding mathematics because it makes it difficult to focus on
specifics, leads to self-doubt, failure-related fear, and other emotional
problems. Mathematics anxiety can cause pupils to doubt their ability, even
if they have good capabilities.

CESS: what is the purpose/importance of your study?

The purpose of this study is to know if there is relationship between
pathological fear in mathematics and to the students’ academic
achievement in mathematics.

JULIE: what is the limitations of your study?

this research will delve into an analysis od data collected via questionnaire.
The study targets freshmen students within the College of Education at ISU-
ilagan for S.Y 2024-2025

JULIE: what is your research gap?

we the researcher wants to know if there is a significant different in the
effects of pathological fear among the respondents when grouped according
to their profile. And also, if there is a significant relationship in the effects
of pathological fear and the respondent’s mathematics achievement.

JOSHUA: what technique or method will you use?

to analyze and interpret the data that were collected, the following
statistical tools will be employed.
⦿ Frequency Count and Percentage Distributions. These tools will be
utilized to determine the frequency counts and percentage
distributions of the respondents' demographic profiles.
⦿ Weighted Mean and Standard Deviation. These tools will e used to
assess the severity of students' pathological fear of mathematics.
⦿ Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). ANOVA will be employed to determine
significant differences, between the causes of students’ pathological
fear of mathematics based on demographic profiles, between the
effects of pathological fear on students’ achievement in mathematics
based on demographic profiles and between strategies that could be
adopted to reduce or overcome students’ pathological fear of
mathematics based on demographic profiles.
JOSHUA: What is the contribution of your study to the existing body of
knowledge?
the result of this research concerning on the pathological fear in
mathematics and the students’ academic achievement in mathematics

AIRA: How did you formulate your SOP?

The sop formulated base on the following steps, identifying the research
Gap defining objectives, literature review, conceptual consideration and
research questions.

JULIE: Who are your respondents?

our respondents are Grade- 9 students at Isabela national high school. The
study will focus on a sample of seventy (70) students selected using
convivence sampling.

JULIE: How will you conduct the study?

The researchers will conduct the study by submitting a formal request to
the College of Education Department at Isabela State University Ilagan
Campus (ISU-I) and securing approval from the Dean's office. During this
phase, they provide informed consent forms to the participants, outlining
the significance of their contributions to the research. Moreover, the
researcher will personally communicate to teachers of Grade-9 students of
Isabela National High School to discuss the content of the questionnaire.
Subsequently, the researchers administer questionnaires to freshman
students. After distributing the questionnaires, the researchers clarify key
terms used in the study to ensure participants fully understand them. Once
the questionnaires are completed, the researchers collate, analyze, tabulate,
and subject the data to appropriate statistical methods to interpret the
findings.
