Getting Started
• Why do we need this Module?

• Do you know the importance of Water

Resources Engineering in Civil Engineering?

8/15/2024 George Kimbowa 2

Brief Course Description:
The Course:
• This course is intended to build on the earlier
hydrology course by looking at more case
studies of important water resources
management projects in Africa and their
environmental effects.
• It will include floods their mitigation and
routing, deterministic and stochastic
estimation methods, groundwater its
occurrence and flow simulations, rural water
supply and sanitation, rainwater harvesting
and water resources of Uganda.

Course Objectives
1. To understand the steps involved in the planning of
water resource project, its extent and environmental
aspects and consider Case Studies.
2. To understand measures for mitigating floods and flood
routing.
3.To introduce the concepts of hydrological modelling and
to estimate streamflow using deterministic and stochastic
methods.
4.To understand the occurrence of groundwater in nature
and to simulate different situations.
5. To understand rural water supply & sanitation in Uganda
6.To understand issues affecting water resources in
Uganda.
