SHRI GIRIJATMAJ GANPATI TEMPLE, LENYADRI
History
It is believed that Devi Parvati performed “Tapa” here to beget Ganesha. This temple is
unique as it is one where Buddhist caves and a Hindu temple coexist. The temple's
architecture is typical of Buddhist style, and it is not in the usual form of a Hindu temple,
which suggests its origins may date back to the first to third century AD. Devotees must
climb over 300 steps to reach the Shri Girijatmaj Ganpati Temple at Lenyadri.
Location
Shri Varadvinayak Lenyadri is located on the north-western bank of the Kukadi River in
the Junnar Taluka of Pune District, Maharashtra. The temple is situated on a hill among a
series of caves, and sunlight naturally illuminates the temple. Its location requires visitors
to climb a hill to reach it. The name Lenyadri, meaning 'hill of caves,' signifies its ancient
origins.
Experience Review
The climb to the Shri Girijatmaj Ganpati Temple is both a spiritual and physical journey.
With more than 300 steps, the path is surrounded by serene landscapes, and the temple at
the top offers a breathtaking view of the surroundings. Devotees and tourists alike are
amazed by the peaceful atmosphere and unique architecture. The temple, naturally lit by
sunlight, is a place of tranquility and spiritual reflection.

VIGHNAHAR/VIGNESHWARA GANPATI TEMPLE, OZAR
History
The Vighnahar Ganpati Temple, also known as the Vigneshwara Temple of Ozar, is
dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom. This temple is renowned
for its golden dome (Sonayacha Kalash) and deepmalas (stone pillars). Among the
Ashtavinayak Temples, it is the only one with a golden dome. The temple is part of the
Ashtavinayak Yatra, a pilgrimage of eight temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
Significance
Ozar is considered the seventh temple to be visited during the Ashtavinayak Darshan
tour. The form of Ganesha worshiped here is called Vigneshwara, or the 'Lord of
Obstacles.' According to legend, Lord Ganesha defeated the demon Vignasura at this
location, which earned him the title of 'Remover of Obstacles.'
