INTRODUCTION

Educational tour plays vital role in a student's life. Learning can't be confined only in
textbooks and classroom. With the continuation of theoretical lectures, field visit and
observation make learning more effective. The major principle of conducting educational tour
is "Learning by doing" and "Seeing is believing". Practical exposure gives new insight to the
students. They come to get meet with the reality of life. Educational tour seems more
important to the students those who are aimed to learn technical education like Plant Science
(Technical stream). Field visit makes them to learn about practical activities that they study
during the classes as boring lectures. They come to know how to actually utilize the theories
in real life and know several constraints and limitations they have to face in reality. Such
tours help to utilize the concept of 'Cognitive learning theories' where students get chance to
adjoin and integrate new ideas with their pre-existing ideas and knowledge that somehow
leads the better cognitive development in themselves.

METHODOLOGY

Our educational tour began at sharp 7:00 A.M. on February 11, 2023 (Falgun 28, 2079 B.S.)
early in the morning from the gate of 'Shree Sharada Madhyamik Vidyalaya Pokhari' located
at Pokhari Bazaar, Chainpur Municipality-3, Sankhuwasabha, Province 1, Nepal. We were a
team of altogether 38 people including 33 students (21 female and 12 male), 5 teacher staffs
(including Principal) and 2 bus staffs (1 driver and 1 assistant driver). We forwarded towards
Hile, Dhankuta in southern direction through Dharan-Chainpur roadway crossing basantapur,
Tehrathum. We had our lunch at Mudhe Bazaar, Dharmadevi, Sankhuwasabha. We reached
to 'Basantapur Rainbow trout farm' and stayed for about 1 hour there. In between the journey,
we had breakfast at Mulghat, Dhankuta. Then, we continued our journey towards Dharan at
about 7:00 P.M. We stayed in lodge (Sri Agrasen Smriti Bhawan) located at Mahendra Path,
Dharan after having good dinner. Next day, early in the morning, we visited Dantakali and
Buddha-Subba Temple. After having lunch, we forwarded towards Ithari and visited
Regional Agriculture Research Station, Tarahara, Sunsari and stayed for 2 hours. After visit,
we had delicious breakfast at ‘Gorkha Department Kitchen’ & enjoyed their hospitality. We
stayed at Hotel Galaxy, Itahari, freshen up and visited ‘Gokarna resort’ and Fun Park and
‘Bhatbhateni Store’ respectively. We also had dinner at same hotel.
Next day, early in the morning, we visited ‘Krishna Pranayam Temple’, had the snack and
headed back towards Pakhribas, Dhankuta. We had lunch at Mulghat, Dhankuta and Headed
towards Pakhribas. At about 2:00 P.M., We visited Agriculture Research Center (ARS)
Pakhribas and stayed for 2 hours. We had breakfast at Leguwa Bazaar, Sankhuwasabha. After
that, we reached to the school gate at about 8:30 P.M. in the evening. All students and staffs
were ensured to safely return to their home.
Moreover, every possible measure like wearing facemasks, using sanitizer and other were
strictly followed by every participant in order to prevent any possible transmission of
COVID-19 and new variant. Guideline given by Nepal government was strictly followed to
make tour healthy and well-managed.
OBSERVATION
We visited the rainbow trout farm located about 2-3 km away from Basantapur market area at
the base of south facing "Tinjure Mountains' full of Rhododendron Forest. According to the
local residents, this area is the kingdom of Rhododendron of Nepal. We can get 28 species of
rhododendron out of 32 species found in Nepal blooming during spring season. People
believe climate change have been affecting the flowering period of trees in past few years.
The natural landscape with very high cliffs and mountains has been a major part of the beauty
of this area. The area is so wide and open that we can see every detail in small dimensions
and make view fabulous. The farm itself is in construction phase. The best part of trout farm
is that there is permanent good source of cold water that gets collected as the watershed area
from dense forest present along the hill face. Fish preys are given recommended feed in
regular manner. Farm have also facilitated job opportunities for the local youths through this
trout farm. Likewise, there is enough space to have meetings, parties, get together, and photo
shoots with the facility to eat fresh-cooked rainbow trout fish. More facilities are being
constructed continuously. This place also signifies upcoming potential site for the agro
ecotourism sector.
At Regional Agriculture Research Station, Tarahara, Sunsari, we had opportunity to see
modern fish ponds, Bio-floc technology for fish farming. We got clear information about fish
breeding by expert. We visited huge agronomy farms, horticulture farms, high-tech tunnel
house, Dragon fruit farms, Mango orchards, Coconut Orchards, Tomato farms, Poutry farms,
Livestock farms. Moreover, we observed many new and heavy farm machineries like zero
tillage seeders, Seed cum fertilizer seeders, Rice Transplanters, Threshers, Tractors, Combine
harvesters, Field crop harvesters, MB Plough, levellers and Seed Processing factory. We
came to know about actual function of seed treatment machineries, seed dryers, Packaging
machineries etc. We also visited the field of research trial done in different crops at Station.
During the visit of ARS Pakhribas, we had a blissful experience. We got chance to
visit horticultural farms, seed stores, weather station, Heli-Pad area, tea gardens, floricultural,
agronomy, plant breeding, animal breeding and poultry departments and farms. There were
many plastic tunnels where both off-season and seasonable vegetables were grown for
research purpose. There were beautiful red coloured single and double stored buildings
decorated with beautiful flower gardens and lawns connected with stone paved pathways over
the south-facing hill terrains that led to the fantastic panoramic land-scape design. Large
number of species of flower were blooming during the visit. There were well managed
cafeteria to have foods, washroom facility, quarters, experimental fields and market at the
vicinity of ARS. Recently, Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) have established an
affiliated campus for studying Bachelors of Science in Agriculture which is located at the
western side of ARS periphery which has added up the genuine meaning of "Land Grant
College System". We were able to see the extension, education and research running
simultaneously in a coordinated manner. Besides us, there were other farmer groups who

PAGE 1
were visiting the site as a training exposure and there were overwhelmed with the beauty and
veracity of ARS itself. There we found the facility of seed processing unit that can process
the seeds of both vegetables and cereal crops. Good irrigation facility, nutrient management
system, soil conservation technologies, insect-pest management technologies were observed
through the study. Overall, we could easily differentiate between the conventional and
scientific methods of farming and the reasons of the farm yield gap after visiting the ARS
Pakhribas.
Besides, the agriculture offices and research station, we got chance to visit
commercial places like Gorkha Department store, Bhatbhateni store where we learned about
the urban lifestyle and could easily compare the difference between rural and urban life.
Likewise, we laso visited Gokarna resort and fun park where we came to know how natural
and artificial things can be utilize to create any special place for relaxation, entertainment and
recreation in city areas. These place gives pollution free environment for busy scheduled
visitors to have some good time. Likewise, visiting popular temple like Dantakali, Buddha-
Subba and Krishna Pranayam Temple helped us to keep good bond to our hindu deities.
These place helps us to keep positive thinking and overcome the fear of any mis-happening
during the tour. Moreover, these places helped us to believe in positive supreme power and
keep positive hope throughout the life.

CONCLUSION

We believe this tour have almost achieved the aimed objectives. Students have shown their
happiness and satisfaction after getting chance to visit the Rainbow trout farm, Lasune,
Terathum, Regional Agriculture Research Station, Tarahara, Sunsari, Agriculture Research
center, Pakhribas, farm, parks, temples, department stores etc. outside the Sankhuwasabha
district. They also confessed this tour to be unforgettable moment of their life. They have
learnt so many new things besides their course study and also, they can now easily relate their
syllabus chapters with visited sites. They now feel more confident towards their stream and
also believes that agriculture can lead us to prosperity only if we know how to do commercial
and scientific agriculture than adopting conventional farming system as before. They can now
see the scope of their study in future very clearly. Besides the positive aspect, some students
faced nausea and stress due to complex topography, dusty and risky roads along the hills.
They didn't have such kind of long tour experience before due to which they were unable to
adjust in such long journey and felt restlessness. Besides that, the whole tour became new and
interesting experience for all. We experienced that road or any transport network plays
significant role any kind of tour or visits. If possible, we will aim to visit more and more
agricultural sites in next year with better management and financial arrangement and make
our learning more powerful.
However, we should learn how to live life and be happy at any harsh conditions appears.
