work, and conducted study sessions to prepare students for exams.
Successfully secured this tutoring position through a competitive interview process. Assisted students in
mastering Calculus I and II concepts through homework and test preparation.
BY SIGNING THIS DOCUMENT, I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IS
ACCURATE AND COMPLETE TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND THAT I UNDERSTAND THE
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT.
What skills do you possess that would be ideal for this position?
Strong Communication: I have experience tutoring and working with people in various settings, which
has helped me develop clear, concise communication skills. For example, I’ve worked in the tutoring
center as a Calculus I and Calculus II tutor helping students with individual questions. Also, I have
worked as an embedded tutor for an entire class lecture setting, helping with group work as well as
exam prep and answering any questions. I’m comfortable interacting with students, parents, and
colleagues, whether through email, phone, Zoom, or in person.
Attention to Detail: Through my work in math, linear algebra, and other technical subjects, I’ve
learned the importance of being thorough and accurate, ensuring that information is correctly
processed and communicated. For example, I am able to do a really long calculus problem correctly
and by paying attention to details I can ensure a high level of accuracy on homework and tests.
Organization and Time Management: Balancing schoolwork, projects, and assignments has honed my
ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and keep track of important details. I have never turned in
any assignment late. I have been a straight A student in Community College, and I also have been on
the Dean’s List Every semester
Tech Proficiency: I am good at using Excel, Microsoft Word, and Zoom to organize data, write reports,
and conduct virtual meetings. These skills are crucial for managing administrative tasks and
interacting with students and parents virtually.
Empathy and Patience: Working with students in tutoring roles has given me the patience to help
answer many difficult questions mathematically. Which will translate for me being a good fit for this
role.
This position interacts with a lot of people via phone, zoom, email and face-to-face. How would you
define customer service when working with new students and their parents?
My definition of customer service is approachable and patient, as well as knowledge. Without these 3
traits, one cannot be an effective customer service person in any setting.
Whether via phone, Zoom, email, or face-to-face, I would ensure coherent communication,
maintaining a friendly tone. It's important to realize what their needs might be, and to be responsive,
by guiding them through any processes, whether it's signing up for courses and orientation,
understanding school policies. Ultimately, great customer service is about making the students and
parents feel helped and listened to.
On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest level, rate your ability to use Excel, Microsoft Word and
setting up Zoom sessions? What types of projects/assignments have you completed using Excel, Word
and Zoom?
• Excel: 7 – I can confidently use Excel for writing data down. I don’t know of any of the fancy
shortcuts, however.
• Microsoft Word: 9 – I am highly proficient in Word, often using it to write essays, reports,
and assignments, ensuring proper formatting and structure. I've used it extensively for
writing papers in both math and political science courses.
• Zoom: 10 – I am comfortable setting up Zoom meetings, sharing screens, and managing
breakout rooms. I’ve used Zoom for school, work and other personal meetings I’ve had
with teachers. I know how to create a zoom meeting and send it to others.
•
• These tools have been critical for managing school projects, facilitating collaboration, and
presenting information effectively.
This position requires attention to detail. Give an example of a work or school related project in which
you had to make sure the information you prepared was thorough and accurate.
An example from school where I had to ensure thoroughness and accuracy was during a project in my
differential equations class. I was tasked with making a complex mathematical model with coding. I
had to do most of the work since my groupmate did not contribute.
I had a good way to ensure accuracy for my part. I went to the tutoring center and asked the math
tutors who tutor for the Differential Equations class to double check my work. If they noticed any
errors, I would correct them right away and let my groupmates know. This way I know for sure what I
am doing if it’s right or wrong.
