JAGHANADHA had entrusted us with the work of carrying out the geotechnical
investigation at JIGANI, BANGALURU, and Karnataka. The primary objective of this
investigation is to establish the geotechnical condition at the site and to evaluate the
allowable Safe Bearing Capacity for the proposed building and other engineering
design parameters through the various field and laboratory tests. This report consists
of the details about the field and laboratory tests performed and the recommendations
made based on the test results.
2.1. Objectives
To ascertain the subsoil strata.
To record the ground water level if any.
To determine the physical and engineering properties of soil/rock samples
obtained from field investigation.
To evaluate the allowable bearing capacity of soil/rock.
i) 100 mm diameter boring at all places is carried out in accordance with IS:
1892 -1979 Code of Practice for sub-surface investigation of foundation by
adopting auger boring.
Page | 3
ii) Conducting field tests such as Standard Penetration Tests as per IS 2131-
1981 at various depths in the boreholes .Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is
carried out at different depths in all the boreholes & the ‘N’ values are
recorded. The number of blows required to drive a 50mm diameter split
spoon sampler for a depth of30cm using a 63.5 kg hammer for a drop of
75cm is recorded as ‘N’ value. The results of all the penetration tests are
performed in each of the boreholes and they are shown in their respective
Bore logs.
iii) Collection of undisturbed and disturbed soil samples at specified depths for
determination of cohesion ‘c’ friction factor ‘’ and others index &
engineering properties as per IS.
2.3. Report
The subsoil strata at BH01 & BH02 Consists Of Filled Up Soil OF 1.5m & 1.5m
Followed By Brownish Yellow Silty Sand Up to an Investigation Depth Of 2.7m and
2.7m respectively and water table or seepage water was not encountered, however
ground water level may change due to seasonal variation.
The SPT tests in the boreholes confirm that the stratum is loose to Medium at shallow
depths. The N Values from SPT at various depths are given in the respective bore logs

Bearing capacity has been determined based on shear, and average N values as per IS
6403.The SBC calculation has been carried out for a shallow foundation by considering
the factor of safety 3.
1.50m FILLED UP
2.50m 213
The Index properties of soil samples at various depths in the boreholes are indicated in
Appendix – I. The bore logs are given in Appendix II.
The subsoil strata of Brownish Yellow Silty Sand till the investigated depth.
Standing water or seepage water was not encountered at during the time of
investigation however ground water level may change due to seasonal variation.
The SPT tests in the boreholes confirm that the stratum is loose to medium at
shallow depths
If coverage area of footing is more than half of the construction area, Combined
footing is recommended
Page | 5
Appropriate measures will be taken during excavations to ensure proper drainage
of water, including rainfall runoff and seepage flows, to prevent stagnation at the
foundation level and minimize the risk to slope stability.
Over excavation and loosening of strata at final founding level shall be avoided & if
occurs same shall be replaced by lean concrete.
It is recommended that the backfilling of the foundation should be carried out with
proper compaction.
TYPE OF FOUNDATION
The Area of Coverage of the footings should not be more than half of the total
Construction Area. If so, a Raft Foundation System is recommended.
