Pre Finals ACTIVITY SHEETS IN READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

Being aware of our social issues provide the same knowledge and lessons we get from our preferred articles.

It also helps us understand and dig deeper into the cause for us to gain solutions.

ACTIVITY NO 1

1.Search news in the local periodicals. News must be dated at least two (2) weeks ago, and you can use the

Internet. Give the highlight of the news and how it affects our daily life.

a. Political

• Marcos: US VP Harris' visit to Palawan shouldn’t stoke Philippine-China tensions (Nov., 19,

2022)

Highlight: MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Saturday that US Vice

President Kamala Harris’ upcoming visit to Palawan should not fan flames between the Philippines

and China as she would be “very clearly on Philippine territory.” Marcos said he is not concerned

that Harris’ visit to the province closest to the South China Sea where the Philippines and China have

overlapping claims would stoke tensions between the two countries.

How it affects you?

• In this situation we see how Marcos handle the situation about this and it will affect how we see

Marcos as our Philippine President.

 Daily Price
 Highlight: Here are the prevailing prices of food and other commodities in Metro Manila as of

Tuesday, Nov. 15. Rice prices remain unchanged, with local premium rice and regular milled rice

at P45 and P38 per kilogram, respectively. Similarly, meat and poultry prices remain steady. Pork

liempo remains at P370 per kilogram. Prices for fish remain mostly unchanged, with local

galunggong (round scad) at P240 per kilogram and bangus at P180 per kilogram. Likewise, fruit

and vegetable prices remain steady: Potatoes are at P100 per kilogram and ampalaya is at P140

per kilogram. However, prices for carrots decreased by P20 to P120 per kilogram. Prices of sugar

and other commodities mostly remain unchanged: Local garlic is at P300 per kilogram. Prices for

siling labuyo remain at P500 per kilogram.

How it affects you?

 Increases in inflation do increase the overall cost of living and if wages are not increasing to

match the increase in the cost of goods and services, the value of a consumer’s dollar will

decrease. In short it affects everyone not just me or you.

c. Health

• Mouth diseases hit nearly half of the world’s people—WHO

Highlights: Rotting teeth, swollen gums, and oral cancers: nearly half the world’s population suffer

from mouth diseases, the World Health Organization said Thursday. A new report highlighted

glaring inequities in access to oral health services, saying it badly affected the most vulnerable and

disadvantaged populations.

How it affects you?

* This news will help us to pay attention to our oral hygiene as we all know it is important and to

prevent oral disorder


d. Science and Technology

• DOST urges LGUs to learn charcoal briquetting

Highlights: The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Friday urged local government

agencies to consider putting up charcoal briquette businesses in their respective areas to provide an

alternative source of income for their constituents. For advance information, they can view the

videos on the FPRDI Youtube (channel) to see lecture and audio-visual presentations on how to

make briquettes, they can also conduct training in the community when requested.

How it affects you?

* This will help us for fuel and kindling to start a fire. We don't need to buy gas just to cook but if we

have this we can cook and we can start our business in charcoal also.

• Shaira Diaz to boyfriend EA Guzman on his birthday: 'Dito lang ako lagi para sa 'yo'

Highlight: Shaira Diaz penned a short but sweet greeting to her long-time boyfriend EA Guzman,

who is celebrating his 33rd birthday on Sunday (Nov 20, 2022) On Instagram, the "Lolong" star

shared photos of them sitting on a couch and being affectionate towards each other.

How it affects you?

•These two Celebrities have a positive influence on youth/us. In fact, they can serve as role

models on how to love our partners in life.

Highlights: National University (NU) finally ended a seven-year wait to play in the UAAP Final

Four of the men’s basketball championship after taking down University of Santo Tomas (UST), 67-

57, Sunday afternoon at Mall of Asia Arena. And NU coach Jeff Napa knows exactly what that

means. They should be ready to face La Salle and the last two games of the second round. Because

we’re not just targeting a Final Four finish. We’ll do the same thing, the same routine,”

How it affects you?

 This will affect me as a person who love sports to take the word or speech of the NU coach that

we must be always ready to face our fears. Just like them they fear La Salle but still they need to

face it

Activity 2

Philippine Constitution is one of the major issues in our country because every Filipinos seek

freedom but before they have it many constitution happened. It sets out where government

powers end by guaranteeing individuals’ specific rights and freedoms. These rights help to assure

the protection and promotion of human dignity, equality and liberty. Before former President

Corazon Aquino administration and set the 1986 Constitution or the freedom constitution that

gave everyone Filipinos freedom to speech and freedom from martial law that set by former

President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. This is why it is one of the major issues in the country.

Activity 3
1. Suffrage in the Philippines (1935 Constitution) 21 age man extended to woman. In short we have

free to vote

2. Freedom from Martial Law or Anti Marcos law (1986 and 1987 Constitution) we are free from

martial law

3. We have the natural right to life and liberty and are equal in dignity. Equal concern and respect for

these basic rights should be guaranteed, protected and upheld by the State.

4. We must be treated equally before the law regardless of our political, social and economic status.

5. We have a right to the security and privacy of our persons and our homes. The State shall respect and

uphold our right to the privacy of communication, information, private transactions and affairs.

Activity 4

a. Constitution is created by Filipinos, for Filipinos.

Explanation: Once it is created by filipino then it is for filipinos only. Those people who lives in

country shall possess everything that is in the constitution.

b. Ignorance of the law excuses no one”.

Explanation: A principle of law that a person who is ignorant of the law cannot be exempted from

liability for a violation of the law due to ignorance of its contents.


c. From 1897 the first informal constitution in Asia (Biak na Bato constitution) up to Marcos

administration where Martial law arise the proclamation of a new Constitution, the

presidential form of government was changed to a modified parliamentary form its

accompanies curfews and also Filipinos during that time don’t have privilege to speak. But

when 1986 the “freedom Constitution” arise Filipinos have freedom to speak. 1987

Constitution or also known as “anti martial law” this gave the Filipinos a democratic

governance and prevent from other dictatorship. In this constitution also upholds national

sovereignty, and secure the human right and civil liberties .

d. Imposing taxes and fees is a fundamental way for a country to generate public revenue and

fund investments in human capital, infrastructure, and the provision of services to citizens

and businesses. It helps governments fund economic development projects. It is also the

lifeblood of good government officials and teachers. Income tax—a percentage of generated

income that is relinquished to the state or federal government.

Payroll tax—a percentage withheld from an employee’s pay by an employer, who pays it to

the government on the employee’s behalf to fund Medicare and Social Security programs

Corporate tax—a percentage of corporate profits taken as tax by the government to fund

federal programs

Sales tax—taxes levied on certain goods and services; varies by jurisdiction

Property tax—based on the value of land and property assets

Tariff—taxes on imported goods; imposed with the aim of strengthening domestic businesses
Estate tax—rate applied to the fair market value (FMV) of property in a person’s estate at the

time of death; the total estate must exceed thresholds set by state and federal governments
