If you stay in Yewfield, a couple of things you should not miss...

walk down to the village of

Hawkshead. And don't miss Tarn Haus. And of course, the nature walk inside Yewfield
itself, they have a 32 acre estate of their own and they have maps of the nature in all their
rooms.

The only 'problem' with this place is that its rather inaccessible by public transport. A few
buses ply from Windermere, but I did not manage to get them even once. They come and
go but God knows when.
Its important that when hiring a taxi from Windermere (it is likely to cost you £14 - 15 one
way) you need to tell the cabbie that you need to go to Hawkshead hill and not the
Hawkshead village. The two are a mile apart and can mean quite a trek. But without your
baggage, its a pleasure walking between the two.
Tarn Haus, I am told merited a visit by the Queen herself 50 years back! And Hawkshead is
perhaps one of the cutest villages in the Lakes.

If you come down to Windermere, pls take the cruise on the Lake and at one end of the 10
mile lake, at a place called Lakeside, you can take a 4 mile ride on the vintage Lakeside -
Haverthwaite steam railway, which is a heritage railway. Lovely countrysdie and if you are
train enthusiast, you'd love this one. The ticket can be combined with the cruise.

And another village you should not miss is the native village of William Wordsworth, I dont
quite remember the name. But anybody should be able to tell you. If you are a fan of
Wordsworth, this is not the place that you should miss.

The Lake District

Chestnuts Hotel is pleasantly situated in the heart of the English Lake District less than a
minute's walk to the center of Windermere where we have over 50 restaurants for you to
experience. Lake Windermere is just 10 minutes walk from here, where you can take a
leisurely cruise and sail down to Wateredge and Lakeside.

The South Central Lakes contains many areas worth visiting, including many picturesque
lakes. The names of these lakes are familiar to us all, evoking fond memories and providing
visitors with both energetic and restful pursuits: Windermere offers all manner of lake
activities; as does Coniston Water, with the 'Old Man' (803m) towering above; Thirlmere
provides clear and pure contemplation while Ullswater is popular for sailing.
Nowhere else will you find nature and culture in such close proximity. Grasmere has Dove
Cottage, with Rydal Mount Close by, both former homes of Wordsworth. Sawrey is where
Beatrix Potter's characters sprang to life. At Grizedale Forest, you'll find a fascinating
sculpture trail, whilst Brantwood, John Ruskin's home, above Coniston Water, offers you an
insight into the life of this influential writer.

Contemporary B&B in the heart of the English Lake District

The Coach House is an unusually stylish and relaxed guest house in the heart of the English
Lake District. Our aim is to provide four star quality on a small scale, for visitors who want
comfortable, contemporary interiors and quality breakfasts, but without the formality and
expense of a top hotel. We have a ‘4 diamond’ rating from the AA. We are a non-smoking
establishment.

The house is, as the name suggests, an old coach house built in 1890 from Lakeland stone.
You will see from its unusual shape that the whole of the ground floor was designed to
house a coach and horses. The back half was a stable, and upstairs was for storage. The
house also has several unusual decorative features, including a weather vane, a round
window and a clock housed in the roof.

We have five letting rooms which are beautifully decorated, with brightly coloured walls,
bedspreads and blinds, matched with antique furniture and cream cast-iron beds. The en-
suite shower-rooms echo this mix of the modern and traditional, with high quality showers,
black and white floor tiles, chrome fittings and period enamelware.

One of the rooms also has a daybed which doubles as a sofa and single bed - this has a
sprung mattress and is much more comfortable than a sofabed or futon! One room has a
balcony. All the rooms have TVs, tea and coffee making facilities, alarm clocks, hair dryers
and radios. We supply cotton wool buds/balls and a range of Body Shop toiletries.

During the spring of 1999 a small, comfortable guest sitting area and a light, airy breakfast
room/conservatory was added downstairs, in which you can relax throughout the day and
evening.

The interiors, were featured in an issue of BBC Good Homes magazine, the UK’s biggest
selling interior design magazine. We have also appeared in the Independent on Sunday and
in Country Living magazine.

We are in Windermere, one of the main villages on the largest lake in the Lake District.
Windermere is easily accessible by car and train. The village is on the A591, 14 miles from
junction 36 of the M6, 250 miles from London, 90 miles from Manchester and 170 miles
from Glasgow/Edinburgh.

The main railway station is at Oxenholme (near Kendal) on the main London Euston to
Glasgow route (3.5 hours from London). A local train service runs from Oxenholme to
Windermere and we are 10-15 minutes’ walk from the station

The Coach House is on the road that runs through Windermere and down into the village of
Bowness-on-Windermere, which, as the name suggests, is on the shores of the lake. We are
5-10 minutes’ walk from the centres of both villages. The house backs onto some lovely old
woods and Mill Beck, a fast-flowing stream - so, especially if you’re staying in a room at the
back of the house, it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere.

We offer a full English breakfast of free range eggs, bacon, Woodalls country pork sausage,
mushrooms and tomatoes or vegetarian sausage - or, as an alternative, a continental
breakfast of hot croissants and pains au chocolat. You are also welcome to help yourself to
cereals, fruit, yogurt and juices. We serve a range of teas, fresh ground coffee and hot
chocolate. We even provide you with at least one of the morning newspapers, and an up to
date weather forecast!

We offer light suppers on every day except Saturday, as well as packed lunches, if you book
in advance. We are licensed to sell alcohol, so you can enjoy a pre- or post-dinner drink in
the conservatory.

We have membership of a local health club Parklands, and guests staying more than one
night are welcome to use this facility - which includes a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room
and gym - at no extra charge.

These are our standard rates per person for 2003 for bed and breakfast, including VAT. We are
always happy to negotiate for group bookings and long stays.
