Artificial Intelligence and the Right to Food: Advancing

Agriculture for a Better Future & a Better Life
16th October, 2024
on the occasion of

Organized by:

Faculty of Agricultural Sciences

Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan
(Deemed to be University)
Bhubanswar-751030, Odisha
Agriculture as a primary sector of India's economy has been playing a
significant role for two other secondary and tertiary sectors i.e. industry and service for total
growth and development of the country in one hand and striving to feed the nutritious food to the
growing population, health, wholesome and nutritious food on the other. The important dimensions
of food security such as food availability, food accessibility and food stability always draw the
attentions of planners, policy makers, social activists, general academia of the country in general
in addition to all those involved, engaged and indulged in agricultural education, research and
extension activities in particular. In perspective of the sustainable development goal which
includes "Zero Hunger" by 2030 definitely triggering, sensitizing, inspiring and igniting all players
playing in different positions in the game of agricultural production and productivity over
agricultural landscape of the country. Moreover, the agricultural scenario of the country is
distinctively divided into commercial agriculture, green revolution agriculture and (Complex,
Diversed and Risk prone) agriculture, where uniform approach, protocol and modus operandi is a
difficult proposition altogether. Under such diverse agriculture scenario of the country, doing
location specific, need based and problem-oriented research under climate change situation with
the help of highly knowledgeable, adequately skilled with appropriate bent of mind personnel and
transferring the research findings in form of recommended technology to the end users who are
properly educated trained during their pre-service period in no doubt a great challenge for all those
who are in the helm of the affairs.

Hence, in order to meet the challenges, it is thought proper to identify the finer
strand and think for addressing all those issues and reimagine the type of agricultural education,
research and extension along with agricultural marketing, which the country like India badly needs
at the moment. In an information era, complete, adequate, appropriate and timely information
should be available to all the actors who are directly or indirectly participating in great agrarian
drama for taking right decision, in right manner, in right perspective, for the right cause and
purpose regarding how to play their respective roles on the stage designed for agricultural
production and productivity striving towards making “Right to food” realised for a better future
and for a better life altogether.

On the other hand with the due advancement of science and technology
and more so in an information era and that too when concept like ICT,IoT, Internet, Artificial
Intelligence, Machine Learning, Drone and Robot became buzz words every then and now in all
situations along with other recently introduced concepts like Quantum Computing, Cloud
Computing, Block Chain , NFT(Non- Fungible Token) , Metaverse, Chatbots ,we should not be
simple on-looker in the situation, rather we must be smart enough to appreciate, acknowledge,
accept and use all those in our education, research and extension endeavor in agriculture and allied
sector for a great cause i.e. Food-cum-Nutritional Security of our country India.
Thus it is the above context and background, FACULTY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES, a
constituent part of SIKSHA 'O' ANUSANDHAN (Deemed to be University)SOADU is going to
organize one day symposium on the theme "Artificial Intelligence and the Right to Food:
Advancing Agriculture for a better Future & a better Life" to create an awareness among all
