Reading
L Read the text and decide if the statements (1-5) are R (right), W (wrong) or
DS (doesn’t say).

Earth is home to over two billion different species.

Unfortunately, some of these species are in danger of
becoming extinct. One such species is the Sumatran tiger from
the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. It is an endangered species
and there are now fewer than 400 of these amazing creatures
in the wild. They are the smallest of the tiger species on the
planet and have thick black stripes on their orange fur.
Unfortunately, the number of Sumatran Tigers has dropped
due to hunting and deforestation. The main reason why people
kill Sumatran tigers is because they want their body parts and
skin.
The tigers are also losing their habitat and food because
people keep cutting down a huge number of trees.
There are several things that people can do to protect the
Sumatran tiger. To start with, we can donate money to a charity
that carries out conservation work in Sumatra to protect the
tigers and their habitat. Another way to help is to volunteer for
organisations either by helping with conservation or collecting
money. We can also try to stop people from buying products
which contain parts of this tiger. This way, fewer people will
want to hunt these animals. We can also ask governments to
make stronger laws on hunting and deforestation in Sumatra. If
everyone works together, we can help save the Sumatran tiger
before it’s too late.

1 There are more than two billion animals on our planet.

2 Most Sumatran tigers die due to deforestation.

3 Deforestation means there is less food available for Sumatran tigers.

4 There is no conservation programme for the Sumatran tiger.

5 The writer believes it’s too late to save the Sumatran tiger.
