The Philippines has many folk festivals. One of the many festivals of our country is the Masskara Festival
in Bacolod, which commemorates the Sugar Crisis in 1980s. Its name came from the English word “mass”,
meaning, “multitude of people”, and from the Spanish word “kara” meaning “face”. It is held every third
weekend of October (or closest weekend to October 19). Masskara dance parade and party are the
highlights of the event.
We Filipinos are admirable people. We are known all over the world for our hospitality. We have a
culture that is uniquely ours. We are known for our skills, we are adaptable to any situation, and we are
pliant like the bamboo.
