◽Introduction
Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional


men's Twenty20 cricket league, contested by ten
teams based out of ten Indian cities. The league
was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in
India (BCCI) in 2007. It is usually held between
March and May of every year and has an exclusive
window in the ICC Future Tours Programme.
◽Background
◆ The BCCI at their 89'th AGM announced that the
expansion of the league would occur in year 2022

◆ The BCCI confirmed that two new franchise would join


the league starting from the 15'th season of IPL

◆ Vivo pulled out as the title Sponsors of the tournament


ahead of the tournament on 11'th January 2022

◆ The TATA Group was named as the title sponsors for


Indian Premier League
◽Venues ◆ Three venues in Mumbai and one in Pune will
host the league stage matches.

◆ The Wankhede Stadium and the DY Patil


Stadium, both in Mumbai, will host 20 matches
each

◆ Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium and the MCA


International Stadium in Pune will host 15
matches each.

◆Every team will play four matches each at the


Wankhede and the DY Patil Stadium ,and three
matches each at the Brabourne and the MCA
Stadium.
◽Registration
◆ The IPL player registration closed on 20'th January 2022.
Total of 1214 players have signed up to be part of IPL Mega
Auction .

◆ From 1214 players , 896 are indian cricketers while 318


overseas players have signed up for the auction as well

◆ The players list incorporates 270 capped , 903


uncapped and 41 associated players
◽Registration
◆ The IPL 2022 Mega auction will see 2 new franchise , Ahmedabad
and Lucknow bidding for players along with another 8 franchise

◆ Ahead of the Auctions , a total of 33 players have been retained


or picked

◆ The existing 8 IPL franchises have retained a total of 27 players


◆ The 2 New IPL teams ( Ahmedabad and Lucknow ) have
picked 3 players each ahead of the auction
◽Promotion
● IPL is a blend of two topics that widely dominated the masses of
India – Cricket & Entertainment, along with some global value brought
in by international players, but like its name, it primarily remains
Indian.

◆ Digital marketing benefits from the IPL


1.The three-hour format is attractive to all age groups and audience
types

2.The match-slotting hours on weekdays from 8 PM-11 PM (now from


7:30 PM onwards) and double-headers on weekends make IPL a
sporting event worth time and money.

3. Commercial sponsorships economically help lesser-known players and
cricket associations with the necessary financial infrastructure and
resources to play.

4.Product placement during IPL season using various digital marketing


hacks on TV, social media, and other modes of communication profits
every single time.

5.During the IPL, brand placement on social media or in collaboration


with a cricketer( and its promotion on social platforms) has also given
the much-needed audience exposure to multiple brands and their
products

◆ The official broadcaster of IPL 2022 has increased
the rates of IPL ON-AIR Sponsorships by 20%.

◆ BCCI will coordinate with UAE authorities to


ensure "discount hotel rates " and share it with the
franchise .

◆Franchise will arrange their own
medical team and BCCI will
arrange a central medical team

◆ The onus of testing players


will be on franchise

◆Each franchise's medical team will stay with


their respective teams within the security bubble

in IPL without diluting the quality of contest .

competition with 10 teams

states and regions that are unrepresented

◆There is massive appetite for cricket all across

players cap can also open up the competition to the
ICC associate and affiliate nations

◆Getting more overseas talent to play IPL can also


give more opportunity to increase the BCCi's soft
power by telecasting IPL to more countries .

◽Women's IPL
◆ The BCCI is planning to start a fully-fledged women’s
Indian Premier League (IPL) soon .

◆ It will be featuring some of the top stars of the game


from all over the world.

◆ Women’s IPL will be consisting of four to five


franchises with a total investment of Rs 1,000 crore in
every team.

Challenge
◆The BCCI organises the Women's T20
Challenge with three teams featuring
in the tournament.
• Supernovas
• Trailblazers
• Velocity

◆ The Women's T20 Challenge is not a full-fledged


tournament and consists of a handful of matches
between the three sides.

Challenge
◆BCCI had organized three editions of the Women’s T20
Challenge, popularly known as mini IPL

◆The WT20 matches were organized during the playoff round


of men’s games.

◆It was not conducted by the BCCI last year despite the
board hosting the IPL in two phases in India and the UAE.
