The language used in various social groups and communities differs due to language
variation. This language variation is caused by several factors, including: Social factors, such as
the status, class, and social class of the speaker. Language variation caused by social factors is
called social variation or sociolect. Diverse social interactions. Non-homogeneous speakers. The
language used by a person is also influenced by the social group in which they are located. For
example, upper-class speakers usually speak with a more standard pronunciation, while lower-
class speakers usually use more accents or dialects. Language is one of the strongest symbols of
social behavior. Language and social interaction have a reciprocal relationship, where language
shapes social interaction and social interaction shapes language.
The use of Indonesian in schools is very important because it has the benefits of: Increasing
knowledge and skills, Preserving culture, Developing science and technology, Being able to
communicate well and correctly, Being able to express kindness and politeness. Indonesian acts
as a unifying language, the state language and the official language of the Indonesian state.
Indonesian is also a means of thinking to develop logical, systematic and critical thinking.
Good and polite language reflects the culture, values and ethics of a society. Using appropriate
language ensures that the message you want to convey can be clearly understood by the recipient
Age differences can influence language factors in several ways, namely:
● Language development Age influences language development, where children will learn
to use complete sentences as they get older.
● Language selection Age differences can lead to differences in language choices, even
across generations.
● Second language learning Age can influence the ability to learn a second language.
According to the critical period hypothesis, someone who learns a second language at a
young age tends to do better.
● Language characteristics Each generation has different language characteristics, because
each generation has different life experiences.
Apart from age, other factors that influence language development include:
Health, Intelligence, Social status, Gender, Family relationships, Environment, Peers,
Communication activities.
Language becomes a pattern in a community because language is a reflection of the culture,
values, norms and identity of a society. Language is also one of the most powerful symbols of
social behavior. Here are some things related to language and community:
