Accessing the System
Locate the result labelled
Kisii University E-learning
portal with

elearning.kisiiuniversity.ac.ke

URL and click on it. This will


take you to the E-Learning
portal landing age.
E-learning Landing/Home Page
Once you are on the
E-learning homepage,
scroll down to explore
the various sections
and other useful links
such as the eJournals,
eBooks and Library
links. Locate the Login
label that is located on
the top right corner of
your screen and click
on it. This will take you
to our login page.
The E-learning portal
 This portal requires
you to login for you to
access the resources
there in.

 The username and


password are
provided by the
E-learning directorate.
NOTE: Your username is
your registration number
in lowercase.
NB: The password and username are case sensitive
After typing your username and password click on the Log in button

 Once you successfully login, You will
get to your dashboard which has:
1. Menu bar – Reveals the navigation
menu 2
2. Profile picture icon – Reveals the
profile details and you can edit your
profile from this
3. Recently accessed courses - 3
displays the course you accessed the
last time you were in the system.
4. Course Overview – Shows a list of
courses you are enrolled to as a 5
participant.
5. Live Chat Messaging icon – pops
up a live chat window for support even
when you are not logged in.

2 The Profile Picture Icon
Clicking on the picture icon will take you to your
profile details.
To update your profile, click on Edit profile(2) and
then ensure that you update your Description(a
summary of who you are), important information
section details and the emergence contact section.
Updating profile picture
1. Click on edit profile.
2. Scroll down to user picture section.
2 3. Click on the blue arrow pointing down.
4. Select upload file the click on choose file.
5. Locate a nice official photo on you device and
open.
6. Click upload this file.
7. Click Update profile at the bottom.
Accessing your courses
On your dashboard, scroll down to reveal the
1 Recently accessed courses and course overview
section.
1. Recently accessed courses - Displays the
course you accessed the last time you were in the
system.
2. Course Overview – Shows a list of courses you
are enrolled to as a participant.

2 NOTE: This sections will indicate no course if you


are not a participant in any course. You will only
take part in a course that you are enrolled to.
Participants of a course can either be students or
lecturer
Accessing Course Content
To access your course content, you click on
the appropriate course code from “my
courses” section in the navigation menu or
by clicking on the course title from “the
course overview” section.

NB: A course contains a list of activities and


resources that you can click on to view or
attempt e.g files(course outline and notes)
and activities like discussion forums, chats,
live class and assignments.
Changing the Password
1. On the top of your screen, locate the drop down arrow
besides your image icon and click on it.
2. Select preferences from the menu options that appear.
3. Select Change Password from the User Account section.
When you click on change password it will show another
window that will prompt you to input your current password
(the password you are using),New Password (the one you
prefer and New password (again) to confirm and then click
save changes.
Using a Mobile App
The platform can also be accessed using a mobile
application called Moodle app. To access the app:
Visit Google play store for Android phones or app store for
Iphone.
Search for Moodle app.
Download and install it on your mobile phone.
Open the app and when asked for your site address
(https://elearning.kisiiuniversity.ac.ke)

Why use a Mobile App??


For developing countries, Internet bandwidth can be a major
issue while delivering online training. Even in developed
countries, this can be a concern in remote areas. With
Moodle App, you get the offline access feature, which allows
students and employees in remote areas to download
courses to their devices and access them offline, later.
Mobile App Site Address
After installing the Moodle app you are required to enter the site
address to link you to the eLearning portal.
Provide the Kisii University ELearning portal URL (uniform resource
locator):
https://elearning.kisiiuniversity.ac.ke

NB: The site address does not contain spaces in between. If you type
it incorrectly you will not access the portal.
Mobile App login Page
 This is a block that provides a section for logging in to the
platform. It provides a section for users to enter their username
and password to access their dashboard.
 This portal requires you to login for you to access the resources
there in.
 The username and password are provided by the
E-learning directorate.
Mobile App Dashboard
The Dashboard is a customizable page for providing users
with details of their progress and upcoming deadlines. In
the centre is the Course overview block which allows
students and teachers to easily track required activities and
filter courses.
It also displays a list of recently accessed courses.
Mobile App Site Home
The site Home comprises of various sections:
1. My Courses – This shows a list of courses you are enrolled to
when you click on it.
NOTE: My courses section will not appear if you are not enrolled
to any course.
2. Course Categories- This section contains the various schools of
Kisii University, departments under each school and the
programmes they contain.
3. Available Courses- It shows a list of recently uploaded courses.
4. Search Courses- This provides a search bar that can be used to
quickly search for courses using the course names or course
codes.
Accessing course content

To access course content you click on a course from a list of My


Courses or from the course overview section on the dashboard.
The contents of the course will show.
Then click on an appropriate activity or resource to view or to
download
Mobile App Menu Bar (more)
Click on the menu bar (three lines) at the bottom right corner to reveal
more options that can help you to navigate through the app or to
customize it.
Grades shows you the scores from various assessments.
Files displays files that you have saved for your reference.
Website allows you to access your eLearning account through a web
browser like: google, google chrome, Mozilla, opera mini, UC mini etc.
 Click on the first icon (1) below to go back to the dashboard
 Click on the second icon (2) below to see upcoming events like
assignment submissions, quizzes and live classes.
 Click on the third icon (3) to view received messages or to send
messages to fellow students or to the lecturers.
 The fourth icon shows notification.

The Log out icon is used to exit the eLearning platform when you have
completed what your online studies.

How to get support

1. Use the live support on the front page of the portal.


2. Send messages to learner support services personnel.
3. Send messages to the technical team.
