CHEMISTRY REVISION WORKSHEET

Grade- X Chapter 3 Date:

Answer the following questions:
1. Two wires of equal length ,one of copper and the other of some alloy have the same thickness.Which
one can be used for (i) electrical transmission lines (ii) electric heating device? Why?

2.Write the chemical equations for reactions taking place when

a)Manganese dioxide is heated with aluminium.
b)Steam is passed over red hot iron.
c)Aluminum Oxide is reacted with Sodium hydroxide
d)Calcium reacts water
e)Iron reacts with dil. Sulphuric acid
f)Iron nail is dipped in copper sulphate solution

3.Name two metals which react violently with cold water .Write any three observations which would you
make when such metal is dropped in cold water. How would you identify the gas evolved,if any, during
the reaction.

4.Name a metal in each case;

a)It does not react with cold as well as hot water but reacts with steam
b)It does not react with water
c) It reacts with dil.HNO3 to evolve H2 gas
5.When calcium metal is added to water ,the gas evolved does not catch fire but the same gas evolved
on adding sodium metal to water catches fire .Why is it so?
6.Account for the following
(i) Hydrogen gas is not evolved when a metal reacts with nitric acid.
(ii) The reaction of iron(III) oxide with aluminium is used to join cracked iron parts of machines.
7. Which of the following will form acidic oxide? P, K, Na, Ca8.Show the formation of

8.NaCl from sodium and chlorine atoms by the transfer of electrons.

9.A non-metal A which is the largest constituent of air, when heated with H2 in 1 : 3 ratio in the presence of
catalyst (Fe) gives a gas B. On heating with O2, it gives an oxide C. If this oxide is passed into water in the
presence of air, it gives an acid D which acts as a strong oxidizing agent.Identify A, B, C and D.

10.An element A reacts with water to form a compound B which is used in white washing. The compound
B on heating forms an oxide which on treatment with water gives back B. Identify A, B and C and
give the reactions involved
