What is the Module About?

We are now living in a highly technological and fast changing world with
the various inventions through the application of Science and Mathematics.
Computer technology has unwrapped many pathways for us to improve our
lives. Our society has been dramatically changed with the evolution of
computer technology which has enabled mankind to do many tasks easier
and faster or perform various tasks at one time with just a device. In this
module you will learn the different kinds of microcomputers and their
functions. (LS6DC-DC-PSA-LE-7)

During the 1980s microcomputers came to use in various applications

aside from electronic game systems and other relatively simple computer-
based recreations. Increasingly powerful microcomputers began to be used
in personal computer systems and workstations. High-performance
microcomputer systems began to be used widely in business, in engineering,
in “smart” or intelligent machines employed in the factory and office, and in
military electronics systems.

Computer World

Lesson 1: Types of Microcomputers and Their Uses.

What is technology? According to Merriam-Webster, technology is the

application of knowledge to the practical aims of human life or to changing or
manipulating the human environment. Technology includes the use of
materials, tools, techniques, and sources of power to make life easier, more
pleasant and work productively. Examples are the types of microcomputers.

Computer gives us access to many sources of knowledge. They are helpful for
communication and businesses around the world. The computer is definitely
valued piece of technology that has worked its ways. It performs operations
known as programs that carry out wide range of tasks.

Here are some notable uses of microcomputer/personal computer in our daily

lives:

Employees use office or desktop computers for making

presentations, creating drafts and keeping records in
the company.

Company work

It is common among college and high school students

and even elementary learners to have a personal
computer at home. Learners can search projects and
topics online, looking for both historical facts and latest
happenings around the world.
Education

Nowadays, Experts have developed software

applications you can install in your mobile devices,
where it allows its users to book public transport
services. You can book such services in advance, with
options to choose when and where pick up and drop off
Transportation points would be.

5
Many of us always turn to computers to access
information, create ideas and projects, and express
ourselves through social media. Chatting and video
calling with family and friends using different software
applications.
Communication

Personal computer can be loaded with component that

take the gaming experience to a new level using high-
definition graphics and designs.

Gaming

Doctors can access test results for mammograms, MRIs

and electrocardiograms quickly and easily, speeding up
patient diagnosis and treatment.

Health care

All branches of the armed forces use mainframes for

communication among ships, planes and land; for
prediction of weather patterns; and for tracking
strategic locations and positions.

Military operation

Types of Microcomputers

Desktop Computer is a personal computer designed for

regular use at a specific location due to its size and
power requirements. It contains a Central
Processing Unit (CPU), mouse and keyboard, LED
monitor and computer case.
