All students are also advised to take a note that any wrong information provided deliberately or
inadvertently by any individual would have reflection in relative ranking of other students in general.
Thus, PRs in particular are required to keep a vigil on the overall database so as to ensure its
authenticity. Please note that any kind of misinformation in Superset, if brought to the notice, would
be suitably investigated and may attract disciplinary action.
Q5. When does Campus placement /internship season start?
A5. Placement season usually commence on after a reasonable gap at the end of summer break
so as to ensure completion of internship of concerned students and further updating of the database
related to the same.
Q6. Which Companies do participate in campus recruitment process?
A6. Several companies (of the order ~1000+ Nos.) are invited for participating in Campus
recruitment each year by HRM department while about 130-160 companies including very high-
end, multinational, renowned Indian Companies usually take part as per the historical records.
Names of any specific companies cannot be declared in advance.
HRM department maintains database for a large no. of prospective recruiters, which is updated on
a regular basis. Additionally, all recommendations for fresh invitations from DTPC and / alumni or
students are also entertained. However, decision regarding placement visit remains prerogative of
the recruiters.
Q7. How companies are approached to take part in Campus placement?
A7. Formal invitation along with “blank template for FTE / Internship” (equivalent to Job application
form or JAF) of our institute is sent to the potential recruiters for participation in campus recruitment
process. This mentions all courses offered by the Institute, both at UG and PG level, with batch
size details so as to facilitate the recruiters in deciding on the eligible disciplines to be considered
for recruitment. This decision remains the sole prerogative of the recruiters only.
Q8. When a “Job notification” is done and how students are communicated about the same
including other information of recruitment processes?
A8. Upon receipt of recruiter’s official confirmation to partake in campus recruitment drive with a
“job profile” comprising eligibility criteria, JD, pay-package etc and other conditions as applicable,
the Job is usually notified (called Job Notification) to the target group (branch/ specialization as
specified) of students through “Superset” inviting application from the interested and eligible
students within the given deadline.
While job notifications, process notifications (containing schedule of test/ interview and other
relevant information), shortlisting, selection, general notifications etc are primarily communicated
through superset, however, at times depending upon situation and urgency, placement/internship
related information may be passed through other alternative ways like email, phone etc to facilitate
quick communication, through student placement representatives (PRs) or student coordinators
(SC) designated for a specific event process or directly to the concerned / target group of students.
Regarding “inbound job notification” please see the information given at the end of this FAQs.
Q9. Who decides the course & discipline / stream to be considered for a specific job profile
of a Company’s recruitment drive?
A9. The recruiting Company decides about the same. The blank template (JAF) which is shared
by HRM department with the Company includes list of all courses & streams of UG, DD, PG. It is
the prerogative of the recruiting Company which courses/ streams to pick from the list and this is
not decided by HRM department.

Q10. Who sets the eligibility criteria for a specific job profile of a Company?
A10. The recruiting Company solely decides about the eligibility criteria e.g. Branch/ stream, cut-
off marks, backlog criteria, age, year gap, other specific skill etc.
Q11. How the Campus recruitment process of a particular company takes off?
A11. In response to a specific job notification in Superset, eligible and interested students apply
through Superset. Subsequently, the list of interested and eligible student-applicants with requisite
database is shared with the recruiter to take the selection process forward by the recruiter.
Q12. How screening/ shortlisting is done from the list of applicants?
A12. Screening/ shortlisting at any stage of recruitment process (e.g. initial application stage,
assessment test, GD, interviews etc) are the prerogative of recruiter. HRM department has no role
in this context.
Q13. How do I get notification about the schedule of selection/ recruitment events?
A13. Student-applicants are normally notified/ informed through Superset/ email about the date &
time schedule of selection events (PPT, Test, GD, Interviews etc), related guidelines / instructions
etc upon receipt of confirmation of the same from the recruiters including progress of events along
with the stage wise shortlist as applicable and as received.
Q14. What is the mode of selection events - physical or virtual?
A14. Selection events may include PPT, assessment tests, GD, Interviews etc as applicable. Such
selection events may be through virtual / physical or hybrid mode (part virtual & part physical)
depending upon prevailing situation and recruiter’s preference / policy.
Q15. What do I do if 2 or more events are overlapping / scheduled on the same date?
A15. While HRM department exercises their best efforts in consultation with the recruiter to
schedule an event avoiding conflict with other events, however, overlapping of events of different
recruiters may not be fully avoided due to constraint of time, preference of recruiters, and sudden
rush of several companies around the same date / time and due to recruiters’ fixing schedule
unilaterally of their own without consulting HRM department. Under such circumstances students
are advised to pick their choice(s) of participation suitably.
Q16. What happens if I remain absent from participating in a recruitment event?
A16. All applicants (after shortlisting, wherever applicable) must not be absent from participating in
selection process. Absence without valid & acceptable reasons (duly endorsed by respective DTPC
faculty member & HOD) will deserve serious consequences in terms of availing further placement
opportunities (absentee student maybe blocked from next 1 or more campus placement drives for
which the student is eligible). Prior information under extreme emergency (subject to verification)
may be considered.
Q17. What happens if I come late or join late in a selection event?
A17. Late comers or late joiners will be treated as Absence from the process and norms of absence
as explained in answer to Q16 will be applicable.
Q18. When do I need to register through company’s portal / link for a campus recruitment?
A18. Some recruiters may require that students should apply / register through recruiter’s portal /
job link to become eligible to participate in the selection process. For such cases, besides applying
through Superset, students must register through company’s link / portal. These recruiters usually

schedule the selection events unilaterally of their own and student-applicants are required to follow
the same.
Q19. How do I know the result / selection / outcome of campus recruitment process of a
Company?
A19. Upon receipt of confirmation of “selection” from the recruiter through official communication
(mail/ letter), it is notified through “Superset”.
Q20. Why some jobs are intimated through “general notification” (and not as job notification
in superset) and how to apply / proceed with application for jobs against such general
notification?
A20. When a specific recruiter shares a recruitment plan through some open competition / common
or PAN India recruitment drives across many institutes, such information is published through a
“General Notification”.
For such “general notification” students are advised to register / apply directly to the recruiter’s
portal or job-link and take part in the processes as set by the recruiters. In turn, usually students
are also communicated directly by the recruiters.
In case of selection for job offer against such “general notification” the same will be routed through
the HRM department and will be considered as “campus placement”.
Q21. When do I get LOI / offer letter from the Company following selection?
A21. Issuance of LOI / offer letter and its timing are prerogative of the recruiter which may not be
necessarily during the academic tenure even. Our experience suggests that it varies from company
to company and depends on policy, strategy and internal matters and business dynamics of the
respective Company/ recruiter.
Q22. What is category A, B and C jobs?
A22. Refer prevalent “placement norms” at IIEST shared with the students
Q23. I am selected for a Category A job; can I avail other campus placement opportunities?
A23. Follow the prevalent “placement norms” at IIEST shared with the students
Q24. I am selected for a Category B job; can I avail other campus placement opportunities?
A24. Follow the prevalent “placement norms” at IIEST shared with the students
Q25. I am selected for a Category C job; can I avail other campus placement opportunities?
A25. Follow the prevalent “placement norms” at IIEST shared with the students
Q26. Where “placement norms” can be found?
A26. It is shared with the students enrolled for placement in superset
Q27. I have a PPO; can I avail other campus placement opportunities?
A27. Students getting a PPO as a consequence of internship secured through “Campus Internship
placement” are bound to accept the same as per the agreed placement norms and / or as per terms
of specific internship notification. Such students will not be allowed to avail any other Campus
placement opportunities irrespective of any category.
Q28. Can I know in advance which companies are going to take part in campus placement
or how can I know companies in pipeline for recruitment process?
A28. HRM department is unable to announce in advance about participation of a specific Company
in ‘Campus placement drive”. When a particular company confirms officially for participating in the
“campus placement” with requisite details of job profile& eligibility criteria for initiating the
recruitment drive, the same is notified to the students.
There is no concept of recruiters in “pipe line” as such or the list of probable recruiters,
Q29. What are core and non-core companies in respect of recruitment process?
A29. The tag of Core and Non-core companies appears to be non-existing / misleading and a matter
of individual perception and it is hard to demarcate going typically by the name of the Company or
its type of business/ function known broadly.
While an IT service (typical non-core) may recruit students of core branches and offering posting in
R & D, design & innovations etc and a typical Core-sector may recruit for the role of data scientist,
analytics, robotics, sales, marketing or others. Core or non-core activity largely depends on the
specific post, assignment and the job being handled and this would vary in different stages of one’s
tenure in any specific organization.
Q30. How to proceed / deal with if someone is selected for multiple job offers?
A30. If a student gets more than one FTE offer (multiple offers), it is the responsibility of the student
to communicate the recruiter(s) whose offer(s) he/she chooses to decline.
Such communication (mail/ letter) should be written in proper manner maintaining a formal & proper
etiquette, strictly avoiding any tone / content that might bring disparagement to this institute.
It is advisable to communicate to the recruiter by the student at the earliest opportunity as it will
help the company to do their manpower planning and it may take someone as replacement from
the waitlist.
There is no provision for multiple offers in case of internship.
Q31. If a student secures a placement separately through his own/ personal initiative, will it
be a part of campus placement or not?
A31. If such selection is routed through the HRM department or this institute at any stage for
information / acknowledgement / verification / consent and / or concurrence, this will be considered
as “Campus placement” and the relevant campus placement norms would apply accordingly.
Q32. What happens if a student adopts unfair means/ malpractices during any selection test/
event?
A32. Any student found / reported by recruiter to adopt malpractices / unfair means at any stage of
selection process, the student is likely to be ousted from the particular recruitment drive and may
also be blocked from availing further campus placement opportunities. Additionally, such incidents
would definitely be intimated to the respective Department (HoD and DTPC faculty members) for
corrective measures and disciplinary actions as deemed fit.
Q34. What guidelines are to be followed during participation in interview/ selection events?
A34. i) Students must be in formal attire during the entire recruitment process (in all recruitment
process/ selection events). Casual wears are strictly forbidden ii) Must be present in online (virtual
mode) or in the defined venue (physical mode) before the schedule time
iii) Must carry all necessary IDs, certificates and other testimonials (both original and photocopies).
Q35. What IDs and documents we need to present/ carry for selection events of a company?
A.35 The following IDs, documents and testimonials are mentioned as general guidance.
• College ID and other Govt. IDs (Aadhar, PAN, Voter ID, PP as applicable)
• All mark sheets/ grade card & certificates (original & copies)
• Copy of CV with photo
• Other documents in support of specific skill, achievement as applicable
Note: exact requirement and type of documents should be checked with specific requirements of a
particular recruiter.
Q36. Can I upload multiple CVs in Superset?
A.36 Students may upload multiple CVs against different profiles in Superset as per their choice. It
is the responsibility of the concerned student to mark a particular CV or the latest CV suitably (with
asterisk etc) as applicable against a specific job application as the CV may be shared with recruiter,
if needed.
Q37. Is my college ID card mandatory to participate in campus placement process?
A37. Yes. As a student of IIEST exhibiting college ID is mandatory for participation in Campus
placement process. Please ensure that you have a proper Institute ID issued by the appropriate
authority prior to commencement of the Campus recruitment (placement/ internship) season.
Q38. I have missed the deadline of registration of a job application, how can it be helped?
A38. Students must honor the deadline of registration. Deadline of registration is usually decided
based on recruiters’ demand. Thus, missing a deadline generally cannot be helped.
Q39. Does HRM department verify background of the recruiting companies?
A39. Besides receipt of information from the company/ recruiter against questionnaire/ blank
template (JAF) of HRM department, IIEST and confirmation mail from the recruiter for participation
in the campus recruitment drive, no separate verification is carried out. Students are advised to
verify/ check the recruiter’s background from their end before application for a specific job-profile.
Q40. When should I upload my semester-result in Superset?
A40. Students are recommended to upload and update their latest semester result/ CGPA
immediately after its publication. Updated CGPA (and or % of marks) as per the latest semester
result are shared with the recruiters. Students without the latest CGPA may not be considered by
recruiters for selection process.
It is the responsibility of the students (registered for placement) to be vigilant about uploading of
the latest/ current CGPA of all students (as applicable) in superset so that one is not benefitted of
relative ranking (by not uploading the latest result) at the cost of other student who has uploaded
the same and vice-versa.
Q41. When & how are the companies invited to participate in the campus recruitment
process?
A41. Formal invites to all the recruiting Companies (available in the database of HRM department)
are usually sent in the month of June-July ahead of the placement season. Follow-ups are also
done further to the formal invites after a reasonable period of interval.
Q42. How HRM department can be approached for placement related queries?
A42. Student with individual queries may visit HRM department between 11.30 am – 1.30 pm and
3.00 pm – 4.00 pm on working days.
Common queries/ issues concerning a group of students should be e-mailed through PR/
designated student coordinator to the concerned faculty of HRM department.
Individual student may write/ send email with specific question to the HRM faculty only in case of
exigency.
Q43. What are the contact details of placement team of HRM department?
A43. Contact details are mentioned below.
Prof. K. Mukhopadhyay, Faculty, HRM Dept., [email protected]
Prof. (Dr.) P. Chatterjee, Faculty, HRM Dept., [email protected]
Prof. (Dr.) M. K. Sanyal, HOD HRM department, email: [email protected]
Mr. Sudipta Das, HRM department, email: [email protected]
Q44. Can I withdraw myself from participation of a selection process at any stage of a
recruitment drive?
A44. If a student applies for a job through campus placement, is not allowed to withdraw from the
selection process, unless rejected by the recruiter during the stages of selection. Voluntary
withdrawal from the placement process by a student would be treated as absent from the process
and necessary measure as explained in A.16 would be applicable.
Q45. What should I do if a recruiter / Company ask me to join an online / offline internship
programme following the selection?
A45. There is no provision of internship (either offline or online) of any duration (long or short) in
the academic curriculum of final year across all branches and courses. The recruiter must be
informed accordingly. Allowing any departure from such norms is beyond jurisdiction of HRM
department
Q46. Post-selection if a company imposes a new condition of agreement or undertaking/
bond amount and/ or asks the selected candidates to bear the cost of training, what should
the candidates do?
A46. At times, post-selection some companies may come-up with new and additional conditions
with or without financial implications. It is the prerogative of the selected students to agree or not to
agree. If the selected students decline the offer (stating the reason) on this account, the student
would be unblocked again (at the discretion of HRM department) to avail other campus placement
opportunities conforming to the placement norms
Page 7 of 10
Q47. What if the selection process/ recruitment events get stopped after the job notification
and application of students or in the mid-way of selection drives?
A47. Such incidents may happen occasionally. HRM department follows up and pursues the
recruiting company to complete the recruitment process successfully but the recruiting company is
the sole decider about such affairs
Q48. I have been kept in the waitlist by a recruiter, am I supposed to get an offer later?
A48 Waitlist does not give guarantee for full time employment (FTE). Waitlisted students are not
blocked for availing other campus placement opportunities conforming to the “placement norms”
Q49. Is it possible that my offer/ LOI might be revoked/ cancelled by the Company?
A49. Such cases are unusual and infrequent though unfortunate, it is not absolutely impossible as
per past records. Students participating in placement drive are advised to get convinced that hiring
of candidates for a profile by any recruiter is driven by demand and business prospect. Based on
unfavourable market/ business situation, recruiters though very few in numbers, have found to
come up with hard decision in the past. In such cases, the HRM department would pursue with the
recruiters for the favor of students with utmost sincerity though past experience reveals very poor
success rate in this respect. However, if it happens prior to the completion of placement cycle /
season, the concerned students will be unblocked from the respective category and allowed to
participate in the next available job opportunities.
Q50. How do I know about onboarding schedule?
A50. The decision about onboarding schedule / timing is the prerogative of the recruiter. The HRM
department informs all the recruiters about the completion schedule of academic curriculum and
result publication and the recruiters are suggested to plan their onboarding program accordingly.
As per the usual practice, the recruiters inform the candidates directly about the onboarding plan /
schedule. However, if any recruiter informs the HRM department about the onboarding schedule,
the same will be informed to the respective candidates accordingly.
Q51. What, if my onboarding is delayed?
A51. While fixing of onboarding timeline is purely recruiter’s jurisdiction, departure from previously
announced schedule or delay by couple of months might not be uncommon though most of the
recruiters eventually completes the onboarding process as revealed from the past experience. As
often reasoned by the recruiters that such delay is prompted by unfavorable economic, market/
business situation. Under such cases HRM department pursues with the recruiter to get revised
onboarding/ joining schedule and keep the concerned students updated about the same.
Q52. Can I get my preferred place / location of posting?
A52. It is recruiter’s privilege to decide about place/ location of posting based on their business
strategy and allied reasons. Some recruiters might ask for candidates’ preferences prior to joining
though ultimate decision regarding place of posting is taken by the recruiters
Q53. Is there any categorization of “Internship job opportunity”?
A53. There is no categorization for Internship opportunity.
Q54. I have been selected by one recruiter/ Company for Internship through placement
process of HRM department, can I get another opportunity to apply for an internship with a
Company offering higher stipend?
A54. No way. Once a student is selected for internship (with stipend) through campus process, is
blocked to avail any other opportunity of internship through Campus process. Students should note
that the period of internship is short (only during summer break after 6th semester of B. Tech
students) and scope for such paid internship arranged through placement process of HRM
department is often limited.
Q55. I got an offer of internship through campus process; can I forego it to avail some “better
offer” of internship opportunity arranged through my own capacity?
A55. If the internship opportunity obtained through campus is accompanied with a provision of PPO
(pre-placement offer), the student selected for the same, is mandated to accept it. Foregoing/
declining such opportunity would be construed as loss of an opportunity of a PPO simultaneously
ruining a possible scope for another student who could have grabbed the internship opportunity
and converted it to PPO.
Any such students who declines internship-offer got through campus for some “better offer”
arranged by their own, would be considered that the concerned students are not interested for
campus placement and accordingly they may be barred from participating in all campus placement
opportunities (during their applicable placement cycle/ season), at the discretion of competent
authority.
Q56. What will be consequences if I don’t apply for a job profile/ job opportunity in spite of
being eligible for the same?
A56. It has been experienced over the years that number of applicants for a particular job profile is
often quite less compared to the number of eligible candidates yielding institute’s / department’s
embarrassment in respect of poor ratio of no. of applicants and no. of eligible students before
recruiters.
In order to avoid such embarrassment, HRM department at its discretion may block the student
from applying for the job profiles of equivalent nature/ category, if a particular student is found “not
applied despite being eligible” for consecutive two such job profiles as it would be construed that
the concerned student is not interested for the job profiles of that specific category/ nature.
Q57. Can I express/ share my feeling on placement issues in FB, Instagram or other social
media?
A57. As a responsible student of this institute one must not express ill-feeling, write derogatory or
sarcastic comments about any recruiting Company (or their representative) in any social-media
platform (e.g. FB, twitter, Instagram or others) so as to tarnish the long-term relationship between
the company and this institute and bringing disparagement to this institute in the interest of the
subsequent batches. However, in the unfortunate event of any such genuine incident, students may
report such cases to HRM department so as to be taken up at appropriate level
