Abstract

The existing huge population has sharply given rise in demands for public transportation, which
has weighed down the current mass people transportation systems within India. The trains and
the buses in most of the cities in India are severely filled to its capacity and are jam-packed. The
suburban rail lines which is called the local trains in Mumbai, in the duration of their peak hour
transmit twice the number of passengers which is against the current size and the carrying
capacity of the compartments which does not support the favorable travelling condition of
humans. This rush of passengers during the peaks hours force many of the passengers to hang
out of the compartment as there is no space left inside and many of the passengers are held up
on station itself because of this situation of overcrowded trains, and wait for the next train. This
definitely invites for more frequency of trains or with increased capacity.

In India the transportation system which carries passengers are designed to meet the
requirement to transport people from one place to another. This design of buses and trains are
such that they do not have doors specially pertaining to Mumbai cities buses and trains. This
encourages the passenger who is in hurry to reach to his office or work place to travel hanging
on outside of the trains and buses, or taking the ride on the roof top. This unpredictable and
uncomfortable journey in such situation can leads to fatal accidents.

The blame for the development of public transport like buses and trains services in the
developing country goes to sheer corruption and not efficiency of the developing country
because we have adequate resources to maintain and manage this transport services as well as
the roadways which cause the most congestion and cost of fuel. There is no discrepancy to
understand that it requires heavy investment to maintain, upgrade or change the current bus and
rail services by adopting the modern technology which is available in the western developed
countries, but that dedication is required. This will help railways, road and port infrastructure
and connectivity be improved with respect to all the hinterlands on priority.

This improved turnaround and increased efficiency will give positive impacts on the investors
within and outside the country to further better development of the infrastructure within the
country.
With the surplus land with their possession Indian railways is planning with the help by inviting
private investors through Public Private Partnership to built agriculture outlets and hubs for
retailer, with multipurpose warehousing for storing agricultural outputs in cold condition and
also have transport terminals in place. This will help farmers to use this cold storage warehouse
to store their produces. This will help in reducing the waste and increased earning to the farmer
and increasing the revenue of railways.

The metro train in Delhi running successfully just because of the government and the private
investors took the initiative in building such train and it has helped in reducing the congestion,
increasing the speed of transit, saving revenue on fuel and saving time. Around 12 Million
people in the capital city of India, Delhi have been benefited with this metro train, without which
their dependency for overcrowded buses would have increased and would have caused more of
accidents and death.

Train accidents can cause personal injuries and sometimes death of the person. It normally
involved the injured passenger and innocent co passenger. The occurred accidents are terrible
because of the speed and wait of the trains, the impacts is severe. The passengers on the train,
especially male’s adults who board the overcrowding train are prone to meet with these vital
accidents because of poor infrastructure on and outside the train.

The railway fares are cheap with compared to other transportation services and passengers
travel in them as it is easy to reach offices or back home. The other factors which are also
responsible of railway victims are slum dwellers staying near tracks, using railway tracks to
attend their nature calls, walking beside tracks, taking short cut by crossing railway lines.

Passenger’s will be satisfied with the fact that there are people to listen to their grievances,
rather before everything were going to deaf ears. But the most important factor is to listen to the
customer problem and develop new services accordingly to resolve it.

This attitude from the employees can change with training them and will enhance anytime when
they encounter with the employees. The technical support of Indian railways is well known to the
whole world, the only improvement is needed to service the railway passenger by increasing the
customer satisfaction.
Passenger’s expectation from railways is only basic in nature, such as they need comfortable
place in the train, frequency of train to avoid overcrowding, the premises and the trains should
be clean, the space near station should be spitting and litter free zone and the railways should
have enough infrastructures and free from hawkers for convenience of customer. These are the
basic requirement of the common people and if these requirements are fulfilled they will ask for
further facilities from railways.

The metro train and the Sky bus called monorail in Mumbai will give people in the city a
different mode of transport to travel with many advantages, as there is a constraint of space
these services will be elevated above the traffic, and will avoid congestion to pedestrians and to
vehicles.

There has to be a constant appeal to every individual to take care and protect our national
heritage, making place look hygienic, and making it a litter free zone in that destination. The
initiative taken by the authority is not enough, and therefore high technology infrastructure need
to be constructed and should implement stringent polices to improve services of air, road and
railways for the tourists to enjoy their journey in India.

Indian railway is worldwide known for the development of railways within India, and should
work on constructing the railways to travel the world taking train as tourist most preferred mode
of transport. This will help domestic as well as international tourist to go places around the
world with economically low cost and experience different geographic region, vivid terrain,
mountains landscapes, changing climatic condition, people of different region providing services
to these tourist. This is only possible when tourism is enhanced with keeping in mind the
requirement of the tourist, and according efforts are taken in building such trains coaches,
stations, the infrastructure of the international standard and quality. It’s a challenge for India in
getting changes in Indian railways but it is always possible in coming years and in future.
