Hello everyone. We are class 10A1 in krong no high school. My name is n.l.x.

q and here is my
partner. Hello everyone my name is h.t.t. now we are taking part in SPEAKING CONTEST -
REAL LIFE ENGLISH SCHOOL YEAR 2022-2023. So, we all know some addiction dieases
like drug addiction or alcohol addiction right? Yes we do but today we will introduce
everyone about a kind of addiction which apperance in the recent years that is social media
addiction in of today’s youth

As you know, social networks are considered as a valuable tool to help people entertain, educate
and communicate with each other even from all over the world. However, on the other hand, if
social media is abused too much, it will lead to some negative impacts that seriously affect the
lives of users..

I. THE CURRENT SITUATION

In the age of technology, it is not difficult to come across a teenager whose first action is to
log in to a social network as soon as he opens his computer or mobile device. Besides, for many
teens, the need to use social media is even higher than the desire to sleep and rest so that they
become enthralled by social media and are unable to reduce or cease their consumption of
online media despite clear negative consequences and severe drawbacks. Furthermore, social
networks are more addictive than alcohol and drugs because they are more popular,
widely accepted by the community, and are almost completely free that’s also the reason
why in the youth community there are becoming more and more teenagers depend on

social mediali as a way to feel good, and an inability to stop or curb this behavior.

II. REASON

-Social anxiety:

When teenager show an inability to establish and maintain real-life relationships can make them
turn to social media and prefer to it where connections are made easier and does not require
real-life interactions.

- Release emotions.

Academic pressure and family pressure or being restrained in family and school situations
and the line between the need to rebel and to be restrained sometimes makes them
“crazy.” Social media is a place to help them control that madness inside. It's a place to
both entertain to forget the emotional vents inside, and also a place to vent those
frustrations out without having to smash or destroy yourself.

-- Escape from the real world.

The desire to be a special, talented, successful person than peers is often an intense need of
young people. Desires and desires to prove themselves This makes them want to find another
world, the virtual world, isolated from the real world - where limits, forced on them - to express
themselves.

III. EFFECT

Actually, the result of social media addiction is regret, loss of both material and spiritual or we
can say physically and psychologically due to the effect that it has on the brain. Social media
can affect mental health by causing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, it make them to feel
abandoned, feel strange and unable to define yourself as well as many other mental health
challenges. In the same way, problematic social media use can increase one’s risk of being
bullied online or becoming a cyberbully and that can be emotionally scarring. On the other
hand, it can change teenagers’s personality like: Lacking of empathy, Lossing of interest
in activities once enjoyed and becoming more negative than ever. In addition, social media
affect physical health, for example:Constant headaches, Back pain, Weight fluctuation, Carpal
tunnel syndrome and Sleep issues. Likewise, Social networks can also harm relationship quality
in both direct and indirect ways since they cut themselves off from others to spend more time
on social media. In like manner, they won't have time for anything else like schoolwork or
household chores because of time spent on social media.

IV. SOLUTION

Firstly, Move apps away from the home screen and into one folder and keeping social
media apps away from the home screen. Next ,we should track online time then turn off
notifications for social media accounts. This helps tame the temptation to open apps first
thing when using the phone, improve overall productivity, mindfulness and reduce
distractions.

Nonetheless, it is also important to Rediscover offline life as well as Prioritize real-life

connections by finding new things to do with family or friends. Doing something that will give
a much-needed break from the screen can help one rediscover the benefits of offline life.

Besides we can Do a digital detox too. Specifically, one may also try doing a digital detox
for a few days until there is a noticeable decrease in social media addiction symptoms.
With proactive actions and help from a professional, one may safely engage in a digital
detox from social media platforms.

Correspondingly, new pathways can be formed by consciously establishing new habits.

However, This requires a teen to undergo a process: Setting new goals, Responding consciously
to triggers, Deriving pleasure through healthy pursuits. While this may seem straightforward, it
is not a natural process.
Overal, with the current alarming situation of using the Internet, each of us individually
from the time we were students sitting in school should live a healthy life, use social media
wisely, let it be a means to help you grow and get better. Don't let it kill your soul.Social
development is a good thing but let it go in the right and reasonable direction. So that don't live
virtual! Virtual living is a disease that is difficult to cure. It is just a worm eating the health and
spirit of young people. If we do so, we will never be addicted to the Internet but also exploit the
many benefits that it brings. Keep practicing and you will succeed!
